That article used the terms "He/Him" pretty often. SMH
Hopefully they'll find who find who did this to HER and throw the book at em.

From Radaroline, SMDH;
"Diego’s sister Virginia told CBSLA that Victor, who is gay and transgendered, had just left work Thursday evening and was dressed up prior to the ambush on Hollywood Blvd."
Comments like this are the problem.
When even close loved ones don't understand how calling someone both 'gay' and 'transgendered' is contradictory, it's easy to understand why so many people think gay/CD/DQ/tranny are interchangeable terms.
Apparently some guy(s) got offended with themselves for finding her attractive and tried to beat her to death.

After looking at a few more articles, it looks like the attackers knew the victim from the restaurant and then followed Victor before attacking...hopefully, there are security cameras in the restaurant and on Hollywood Blvd.

I'm with you Kelly but one can't expect mainstream media to get this right...more important for now is that the police treat this as a hate crime and work diligently to bring those responsible to justice.

No. We very much should expect the mainstream media to get this right, and when they don't they need to be told. All newspapers have feedback blogs and before that there were letters to the editor. I don't pretend to be an expert on the US legal system but I know hate crime is recognised and was a factor in the Gwen Araujo case. That being so, those here, who live in the paper's circulation areas, should fire in a pile of 'irate of nevermindwhere' letters and emails.
Journos are by and large just working stiffs with no great axe to grind and most have seen some pretty horrible stuff (I'm not talking about the big-name syndicated rent-an-opinions, but the people running newsdesks everywhere.) In general, they respond fairly to politely put and reasonable comment on what they publish, from their readers.

Or you can you just attack them..I went after this author on twitter
And I asked her to define what a transsexual is...
She said I don't care about ones sexuality
When they do this..they basically promote trans-abuse
Many reporters now a days are better at being conscious of the terminology and even if their names not changed going by the name they chose.
She couldn't define transsexualism to me..this is why reporters shouldn't write things they don't know about!
Because like politics reporters give people their thoughts...
Some people who don't know politics will pretend if they read an article...
What they put out changes views
They have a lot more power..she is basically calling her a crossdressing gay man.
And even said to me as long as her penis is in tact she is a man

So instead of bitching about it here, do something if you feel that strongly.

The sisters referred to him as a "brother."

Doesn't make it right, I know loads of trans-woman who are full on post op. Who sisters still call them brothers and will never accept them any other way.
The reporter should speak to her and get the story from her!

ACK "Gay and Transgendered" what the hell
Not all transgendered identify as the opposite gender ~_~ My sister calls me "brother" and all that and it is 100 percent fine.
Actually, when I appear in media they refer to me as "she" (even when I tell them I'm "he"). Typically it is to avoid confusing the issue / article.
Even on my own website where I'm the owner of the company ... people still assume that I'm being mistreated by the rest of the team and they are forcing me to use "he".
Basically.... if the sisters refer to him and him...probably he is a him ~_~ (especially since they are coming to his defense)

But she just admitted to me that she only read the police report and got the information all from the police report
Which they would of course use male terminology and Victor as the name.
And I also asked her well I'm a trans-woman and I still have my penis would you consider me male?
She avoided answering that question.
Plus this trans-girl works at a restaurant I doubt she can afford transition much less a name change.
It doesn't make her any less of a girl

There's so much education that needs to take place among the general population. It's fine if after the fact people refuse to accept transgendered people their chosen gender identity, but at least they'll know the difference.

Since no one used the word "Transsexual"...I looked at a few articles...this article:
http://www.starpulse.com/news/Dave_Simpson/2013/06/04/eva_longoria_offers_support_to_beaten_
does mention :"Victor Diego, who is in the process of becoming a woman, was heading home after his shift at Longoria's Hollywood eaterie Beso when he was allegedly attacked by a group of men.
