Back in my heyday I knew a Greek all-nude dancer who did coke with Mayor Marion Berry at the table of the This Is It strip club. She said all the reporters were trying to get her to talk, but Berry got there first and promised to fast track her citizenship in return for her clamming up.

Absolutely, Hippifried! The guy is conservative. I hate to say it, but politics in Canada is looking more and more like American politics, ever since the conservatives took power in Ottawa. Negative publicity used to be a... welll, negative in Canada. Now it's becoming the norm. One paper, the Toronto Star, a liberal paper in Toronto, has been trying to discredit this guy for a while, now. We all laughed, in Canada, of the Clinton dick sucking incident. To us, it was so irrelevant to politics it was funny. But now, some information media has resorted to similar tactics in discrediting politicians. Although I am not a conservative (I'm an old retard socialist), I hate this kind of manouvre. I was sure they wouldn't produce the vid from the get go. Either the Ford clan bought it, or either it never existed -which is very possible...
What's happening to democratic values in North America? We should all be outraged by what's happening everywhere out here in the last couple decades!

Dan, if the reporters lied, well, their careers would be killed. (Plus I don't really believe in conspiracy theories... apart from the JFK assassination -- ha, ha, ha! :)) So, why would the reporters lie????
The two reporters from the Toronto Star would've been heavily vetted by attorneys at the Star and plus the executive branch. I just don't believe they lied. Again, it would be career ending for them and the Star would be in deep doo doo, too.
It makes no sense to lie. Again, why?
I mean, the investor class finds Ford "distasteful" but they like his right-wing policies. As the business class usually do. (David Koch, who is very right-wing, is pro gay marriage. Why? Well, gay marriage doesn't hurt his economic power. In other words he doesn't really care. Most executive elites, as it were, are socially liberal.)
I mean, corporations and corporate executives benefit from right-wing policies, from right-wing politicians. As corporations are, by design and by law, right-wing institutions... that place the interests of capital above the wider populace. Point being: these are not democratic or left-leaning institutions.
The people who run the country want Ford's policies -- but someone who conducts himself or herself with decorum. Ya know, someone who is better behaved... but instituting the same right-leaning policies.
Financial institutions backed Obama in 2008. Why? Well, they liked his style. He looked good. I mean, it's all image.

And, too, always found it odd that a lot of people defended Bill Clinton. I mean, people weren't paying him to receive oral sex in the Oval Office.... And, too, maybe most people don't even care. Who knows. I mean, is it OK for the President to have sex in his office on the taxpayers'/citizens' dime? Can everyone do it then? Should we not expect more decorum, as it were, from public officials? No? Yes? :)

Yesterday or the day before, two senior ministers of Stephen Harper's conservative cabinet almost threw punches at each other over the delightful anctics of Toronto's mayor. They had to be separated by their collegues. One of them argued that he was a long time friend of the family; the second one wanted to publicly demand his resignation...

Here's the story, from the CBC, as a souvenir of the wonders of Canadian politics, these days...

Jason Kenney's Rob Ford comment sparked profane rebuke from Jim Flaherty
Toronto mayor's admitted drug use causes Conservative caucus rift to erupt on Commons floor
By Evan Solomon, CBC News Posted: Dec 13, 2013 9:56 PM ET

Bitter divisions inside Stephen Harper's cabinet over Toronto Mayor Rob Ford recently erupted on the floor of the House of Commons and triggered a profane battle between two of the prime minister's most powerful ministers.

Several cabinet and caucus sources said Finance Minister Jim Flaherty was unable to hold back his fury after Employment Minister Jason Kenney became the first member of Harper's cabinet to call on Ford to resign on Nov. 19.

The finance minister, who is an old friend of the Ford family, got word of Kenney's public upbraiding of Ford and confronted his cabinet colleague once the two were seated in the Commons for the daily question period.

Listen to The House

Listen to host Evan Solomon's full interview with Employment Minister Jason Kenney on The House.

Evan also speaks with retired general Rick Hillier on the state of the Canadian Forces.

Listen to The House on CBC Radio One and SiriusXM Ch. 169, Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

In a voice loud enough for several of their cabinet colleagues to hear, Flaherty told Kenney to "shut the f--k up" about Ford.

Kenney responded angrily in kind, and although the two men were separated by four other ministers, alarmed caucus colleagues, who requested anonymity, were concerned the bilious debate might escalate beyond their control.

"I thought they might come to blows," said one MP who was not authorized to speak publicly about the incident.

Another MP said there was shock at the sight of two senior ministers battling in such a public way.

"It made other caucus members feel awkward," the MP said. "Jim was very emotional and he is very protective of Ford."

Kenney speaks on The House

In an interview on CBC Radio’s The House, Kenney did not deny the confrontation took place.

"Not everyone agrees with each other on everything all the time," Kenney said. "There is always going to be some disagreements from time to time."

Watch: Jim Flaherty becomes emotional over Ford admission
Kenney insisted there are not "significant divisions" in the caucus, just the "occasional disagreements on a particular issue that you would expect." He also stressed that he and Jim Flaherty do "get along."

Kenney also praised Flaherty's work as finance minister in the wide-ranging interview on The House.

"He's done a phenomenal job as our finance minister, and I'll defend him any day of the week. I'm proud to be associated with Jim Flaherty," Kenney said.

Flaherty did not deny the incident but refused to make any public comment on the encounter.

Finance Minister Jim Flaherty on Rob Ford 20131107
Flaherty became visibly upset in early November when asked for his thoughts on Ford's admission he smoked crack cocaine. (Nathan Denette/The Canadian Press)

Just weeks before the incident in the House of Commons, Flaherty became visibly emotional at a news conference when he was asked about Ford's admitted use of crack cocaine.

"I am close with the family," said Flaherty, who appeared to be struggling to hold back tears. "[Ford] has to make his own decision about what he ought to do."

Flaherty served with the mayor's father in the Ontario legislature.

Kenney's comments about Ford also upset members of the Conservatives' Greater Toronto Caucus, which Flaherty chairs.

Sources tell CBC News that some Greater Toronto Area caucus members resented Kenney's comments because they flew in the face of strict instructions to avoid commenting on the Rob Ford scandal because of the Toronto mayor's enduring popularity in some key federal ridings.

"The MPs in the GTA had worked hard to maintain their cool on the subject," said one caucus source, "and along comes Kenney and undermines them."

It has been a difficult fall for the governing Conservatives. The spiralling Senate scandal that saw the Conservatives expel three of their own senators from the upper house as well as Ford's troubles have strained relationships in the caucus.

There have been other examples of escalating tension between caucus members spilling onto the floor of the House.

This past week, Conservative MP Kyle Seeback apologized for calling fellow Conservative Brad Butt a "bitch" during a loud exchange on the Commons floor.

"It was more like a locker room than the House of Parliament," one witness said privately.

The next day, Seeback rose in his seat to deal with the situation.

“Mr. Speaker, yesterday I used some very unparliamentary language in the chamber and for that I unreservedly apologize," Seeback said.

It is unclear what caused that flare-up between the two MPs.

According to the fabulous internets the DWP is charging about 13 pennies per kilowatt-hour (fairly commensurate with the rest of the nation) and 12 to 13 pennies per gallon (pretty fair considering LA is in the middle of the dessert). Usually wages and pensions are are figured into the basic rates. LA may be different. Do the added taxes and surcharges go to the union, or are they channeled elsewhere (e.g. carbon reduction, buying power or water from outside the system, repair or construction of stations and dams...etc. )?

Toronto mayor Rob Ford signs up for re-election despite crack scandal

Though stripped of most authority over drug abuse, undaunted mayor is first candidate to sign ballot for 2014 campaign

Toronto mayor Rob Ford has put his name on the ballot to run for another term, defying repeated calls for him to step down after admitting he smoked crack "in a drunken stupor".
Ford was the first candidate to show up at city hall when registration opened Thursday for the city's municipal election on 27 October.
He promised "Ford more years", the Toronto Star reported. He also called himself "the best mayor this city has ever had".
"If you want to get personal, that's fine," Ford told reporters, according to the Star. "I'm sticking to my record, and talk is cheap. You're going to see action like you've never seen before."
He was more restrained on Twitter, tweeting a photo of himself signing up to run again and saying simply, "Just filed my paperwork for the 2014 election. Vote on October 27."
The conservative mayor of Canada's largest city has said he would run again, even after the revelations last year about his drug use.
Ford has faced intense pressure to resign over that and other erratic behavior that has embarrassed many Canadians.
The Toronto city council has stripped Ford of most of his powers, but he continues to receive support from some in the city's more conservative suburbs. He first won as mayor by promising to "stop the gravy train" of government spending.
Ford admitted his drug use after Toronto police announced in October they had obtained a copy of a video of him appearing to smoke from a crack pipe. News reports of the video first emerged in May, but Ford at first denied its existence.
Court documents released last month detail police wiretaps of alleged gang members who spoke about delivering drugs to the mayor and having pictures of him using drugs.
The wiretaps are evidence in the case against Ford's friend Alexander Lisi, who faces trial on drug and extortion charges. The mayor has not been charged.
In the weeks since the revelations, Ford has said he has quit drinking and adopted a healthier lifestyle.

He's very rich. His dad died in 2006 and left him his fortune.
Don't think he's motivated strictly by money. More so political power. I mean, government is a power system. So, it's power.
Well, he's [also] in office to shine the boots of his rich friends and kick everyone else in the face.
Also he gets his kicks from being a celeb....
But by all accounts he seems to enjoy being Mayor... not matter the grievous impact on the residents of Toronto (his base seems to consist of 20 percent of the populace who'll vote for him no matter what) or the city's reputation. He has embarrassed the city -- from an international standpoint.
He seems quite egocentric.
The nature of the system seems to attract these bestial specimens.

http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2014/01/17/rob-ford-weight-loss-toronto-election_n_4618239.html

http://i.huffpost.com/gen/1569160/thumbs/n-ROB-FORD-WEIGHT-LOSS-large570.jpg

Rob Ford thinks everything will work out fine — if he can just lose enough weight.

The Toronto mayor has been working out pretty hard since admitting in November to smoking crack cocaine in a "drunken stupor" and the results are beginning to show. The famously rotund politician — who has described himself in the past as "three hundred pounds of fun" — is noticeably thinner these days.

On Thursday, Toronto Sun columnist Mike Strobel joined Ford for a workout at city hall.

Strobel's column revealed Ford has lost about 40 pounds in two months and now tips the scales at about 295 pounds. Gym rats may be impressed to learn the mayor was able to leg-press 810 pounds, which led one staffer to call him a "beast."

But perhaps the most revealing quote was when the mayor addressed what's at stake in his new fitness regime.

"The only way people are going to respect me, to bring back my image, is if I lose weight," he said. "The rest falls into place."

This comment echoes earlier sentiments from members of Ford's family, who denied the mayor needed treatment for drug and alcohol abuse after the crack scandal blew up this past fall.

In an interview with CP24, the mayor's mother, Diane, conceded her son had "problems" — but not with booze or drugs.

"He has a huge weight problem and he knows that and I think that is the first thing he has to attack because that will change your whole demeanour," she told Stephen LeDrew. “Everything else will fall into place because you aren't all the things you're being accused of."

Rob's sister, Kathy, also denied he needed professional help.

"Robbie is not a drug addict," she said. "I know because I'm a former addict."

And after the Toronto Star published a video of an inebriated Ford ranting angrily, his brother Doug Ford recommended he take a "little vacation" to sort out his issues or perhaps get some counseling.

But Doug Ford also suggested the most pressing issue for his brother was dropping pounds.

"Once he's down they want to try and kill him because they know if he gets back on his feet and he starts moving forward, and he loses weight and he gets his life together, they are going to have one heck of a battle on their hands," Doug Ford told a Toronto radio show.

But alas, the mayor did not take any time off. He did not go to rehab. He was stripped of his most meaningful powers by city council.

And, lest we forget, he still refuses to meet with police investigators, at the apparent advice of his lawyer.

Yet, Ford has already filed his papers to run for re-election in October and recent polls show it is not beyond the realm of possibility that he wins.

Could a leaner, meaner Ford stun all those who said his political career was over?

Ford's commitment to improving his health is a departure from his disastrous "Cut The Waist" challenge, where he finished 50 pounds short of his weight-loss goal and twisted his ankle after falling off a scale.

And for Strobel, one workout session was enough to convince him Ford is a changed man.

"We could do worse than, say, 250 pounds of clean and sober in the mayor's chair," the writer concludes.

Torontonians head to the polls on Oct. 27.

Ford admitted to having a few drinks.
But he also said awhile back never to touch another drop of alcohol.

Rob Ford reminds me of the ghetto white kids that hung around with us back in high school. Straight out of a trailer park and trying to identify with the black, West Indian (largely Jamaican),underground culture which was in those days considered rebellious. He even talks the same. If you read about his history, you'll discover that's exactly how he and his siblings were when they were younger. But they took it a step further and got involved in the black market/drug side of things - One sold drugs in high school (and is now a city councillor), one was an enforcer, and his sister shacked up with known gangsters. But all the while his Daddy was busting his ass building a very very successful business in town. Well eventuall the kids inherited the business and the money but didnt lose their street cred. In some ways I empathize with the guy as he sorta comes from the same place I came from but in other ways he's just a poster child for people from that same place who've never matured intellectually, are unable to move beyond their teenage years, and can't comport themselves enough to effectively do their jobs.

The ridiculous thing is that the under-30 crowd loves this guy. Not to mention West Indians who can totally identify with him. If he can motivate those folks to hit the polling stations, he will win the next election.

John Tory appears to be a moderate conservative.
At least the voters of Toronto appear to have good sense. Albeit Rob Ford dropped out of the Mayoral race... because of his cancer. But his big brother Doug took his spot.
