Just thought I would start a thread. Hope everyone likes it, something different for me I thought would be fun to see who replies and what they like.
Just to let everyone know I like to fish, cross country ski and like to go to Nascar races!

I like to watch MMA and keep my eye on the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers have been such a disappointment for the last ten years.
Does playing Civilization 5 count as a sport?

Football is the only thing I follow. NCAA and NFL.
I do like watching MMA when it's on TV. I don't follow it so it's a pleasant surprise when a card with some recognizable names is on Spike TV or Fox.
I grew up watching great boxers of the 1970s and 1980s but in 2013 I don't care about boxing at all.

Baseball to play and watch. Then hockey, best team athletes on earth IMHO, it is football (soccer) on fast forward and skates. Basketball is my next favorite and US football is a weekend diversion that takes little time to understand and fills any blank Sunday.
But baseball is for all the knocks on it the most fascinating game. Defense has the ball, you can't run out the clock and there is nothing harder than hitting a round ball with with a round bat, squarely. Just look at what guys like Michael Jordan could do in the NBA or Bo Jackson in the NFL and how much more mortal both were in baseball. And if you love numbers you have to love baseball.

Yeah, it's a shame what's happened to boxing...I still remember those must see Leonard-Hearns/Hagler/Duran fights...and when Tyson first came on the scene, that was incredibly exciting...
In those days, fights like that would stop the world.

Huge baseball, football, and hockey fan - all Detroit teams. Used to be much more of a basketball fan, but mostly lost it for the sport awhile ago. 12th men making $10 million a year, trades based on contracts and not value, only 3-4 teams every year have a real chance to win etc. Maybe got spoiled watching the teams and rivalries when I was growing up in the 80s and 90s. Those players would have chopped off a finger rather than play with a rival.
And I agree with FiveKatz, baseball is a fantastic sport to watch - so much going on every pitch. And hitting a baseball is, without a doubt, the hardest thing to do in sport.

My favorite sport to watch is hockey. While the NY Rangers are in the play offs, I'm in heaven. When the season ends I go back to watching baseball.
Also, since I like to drink a bit - I've learned to be able to watch almost any sport.
..but my preference will always be hockey.
As far as participation - I used to play a lot of handball..not anymore though. I enjoy cross country skiing (I enjoy down hill skiing more, but I'm terrible at it...lol...more like down hill falling),hiking...stuff like that.
I'm also a bit of a gym rat...strength and cardio training.

I play tennis to a pretty high standard. Used to play other racquet sports like squash and badminton too, but had a serious back injury playing rugby a while back - crushed vertebrae - which put an end to all contact sports for me. Put me in hospital for the best part of three months too.
When I was younger I also played football - what the rest of the world plays, not gridiron - rugby, of course, and cricket. You could say I was a bit of an all-rounder.
Nowadays I still watch tennis, though I don't enjoy the back-court slog it has become, football (round ball version) and rugby. Not much else appeals. And I'm sorry guys, unless it's Fenway Park most US sports leave me cold.

I agree Victoria! Waterboarding is a fantastic sport.
Before, for me, it was baseball but they decided they like money more and not the spectators.
Course the Derby every years is nice to see all the Ladies in their dresses and hats!

Great answers.
Sorry to hear about your injury Robert. You and Fred appear to be very athletic.
I like NFL FOOTBALL. I'm sick when the season is over just awaiting its return.
NBA I will tolerate the playoffs and championships. No love lost though if I miss viewing some games.
Baseball is too slow to enjoy viewing unless I'm actually there in the stadium getting drunk to stave off pure boredom. Tennis and golf every now and then. Boxing has become the new wrestling with these fake outcomes. They are paying those boxers too much money to ever willingly maul and brutalize each other these days. I prefer MMA contact sports of all kind -especially the women! There's a TG woman fighting in MMA now in the women's division. There was an Asian TG a while back in the sport of Mai Tai (sp?), but she fought men and was a champion at that. MMA fighter Rhonda Rousey (GG) gives me butterflies! Chris Cyborg former UFC Women's champ is a beast, but she was banned due to testing positive for steroids. I'd let her beat the crap out of me any day! Shameful, I know.

Really looking forward to this football season. Hoping the Rams can make a push for a playoff spot they should be better. Hoping ND can stay among the nations elite after a terrible off season. Since that beat down by Bama, things have gone in the toilet so to speak. So it should be a very interesting fall.:)

I tore a knee cartilage a few months back and had surgery last month, so I'm hoping that I'll be able to get back to playing tennis again soon. It would be awful if I'm not able to play to the same standard or worse still not at all. :(
That said, I thought that Nadal's return to winning ways at the US Open was nothing short of remarkable. That man has real determination as well as ability.

I play tennis. My favorite sport to watch is probably boxing, but tennis is enjoyable when you see it live. For me, it loses a lot of its quality watching it on television because you can't get a sense of how hard they're hitting the ball; only when you watch matches from the 80's do you get a sense of how far the game has come that a 120+ mph serve is common now.

I played hockey like any other little French-Canadian boy, of course, but my favourite was boxing. I also practiced judo for several years.
My grand-father was taking his young boy to see Joe Louis fights in movie theatres in the late 30's. My father remained a boxing fan and transmitted his passion to me. I've been a fan for a couple years short of a half century, now. That's not only my favorite sport to watch, it's nowadays the only sport I still watch. I just can't stand watching guys fight with sticks for a puck, ram into one another for a ball or endlessly wait for a moron to hit another ball with a bat. In fact, I've lost any understanding for such activity. Moreover, it's all a bunch of young guys that a mass of older guys litterally fantasize about, watch in slow motion, compile infinite records on, etc. It's somewhat queer to me, if not truly strange... lol

Growing up int he USA, I was not exposed to soccer growing up. I always thought soccer was boring.
A few years ago during a world cup match I was in a discussion with a soccer fan. I told him how boring I thought it was. Said that night two soccer powerhouse teams were playing. I don't remember which teams but it was something like Brazil vs Italy. He said it was going to be a great game.
I watched it.
Now don't get me wrong, those guys are definitely athletes. I could run across the field the short way with needing oxygen. That be said, I still found it boring. Kick the ball and run. I did come away with to score, you bring the ball up the, have all your guys group in front of the net, kick the ball into the crowd and hope one of your guys head butts the ball into the net.
