My closing remarks on the offensiveness -or otherwise - of the word fag. Most people here are NOT offended by it. As Eva rightly points out context is all. So in the case of its use in the context of a post intended to offend it is offensive.

And offering a clip from South park in support of your argument is -- well hardly a clincher, I'm afraid.

I've no desire to keep things PC... just amiable.

And the use of fag or faggot in the wider world can be offensive. Just ask any gay - or transgendered kid - who is bullied and beaten up, sometimes to the point of being suicidal, if the homophobic bullies using the word fag mean it harmlessly.

Same with the nigger word. Plenty of black people - here and in the wider world - seriously object to that word when used by white people, in whatever context (except perhaps academic or serious examinations of the language of racial prejudice). Rightly so. Once upon a time, not so long ago, people got called nigger and got beaten and sometimes lynched.

Finally urging someone who could be potentially suicidal (and we still don't know -the jury is out on that one) to go take a bullet may be seen as abrasive humour. I call it out as callous and potentially something worse.
