When Valentine's Day rolls around and you're single, what do you do?

I like to get one of those prix fixe deals at a fancy restaurant then show up alone, eat for two and drink for four.

this year is my first valentines actually not being single since 2007 ..

i am cooking my gf a dinner, then we are going to watch a movie and have a nice bath then some sweet "insert barry white love track" motion in the bedroom :)

What kinda "punters" you get on Valentine's Day? I remember working the door on Christmas one year. Dude way over age is presenting his ID before he gets 20 feet from me. He says, "Wish me Happy Birthday". I did then turned to my buddy saying, "I give him 20 minutes in there." Heard an awful noise about 18 minutes later and went to investigate. I was back at my post in a couple minutes nodding my head at my buddy.

I'll be at work this year (instead of Cobra)...just like last year. When Valentine's Day falls on the weekend or a day off, I usually call up some girl who is also single, and we just spend the day together...sad or whatever...

I think it's just a commerically manufactured day. I really wouldn't be with someone who thinks it's supposed to be a big deal.

The only time I recall ever doing something 'special' for VD was back in '98, following the bloodbath of my last 'relationship'. A friend of mine and I went down to the range and shot the beejeezus out of some paper people. Since it was primarily for my benefit, I paid for all the brass.

I'm actually considering sending a ping to one of the local gurls to see if she's up for going out to dinner for this one. Mostly because the day is a reasonable excuse for me to come up for air.

The only time it's not stupid is when you're freshly in love. Then your body chemistry forces you to think irrationally ....and the cheesy doesn't always seem quite so...but when your mind comes back to normal, you think - "Valentine's Day...what the fuck!!???"

That being said - when I was married I always bought my wife flowers...because I wanted to. We both recognized it as a cheesy day...but she appreciated them anyway.

Now I don't really care much about the day...too old,too cynical...it seems stupid.

That being said...for you young guys out there,in N.Y.C. wanting to impress your girl with some quality chocolate...pay a visit to Jacques Torres...I like the one on Hudson Street.

Usually I sit at home and watch movies. It also happens to be the day I was born on. Being a very alone type of person, I can't say it's any different than other days. Maybe a little quieter is all! :)
