So im in the process of cutting weight and im goin through a clensing diet that ive used in the past when competing in wrestling to cut weight. I thought id share this with everyone, basicly this clenser is a 10 day cycle and is ment to flush out ur system an eliminate excess weight thats built up in ur body. u start every morning with a litter of warm water mixed with unrefined salt crystals, following that u drink a cup of hot herbal tea called smooth move. During the day all u consume is a gallon of purified mineral water, mix in 12 tspoons of lemon juice, 8 tspoons of organic maple syrup, and 1 tspoon of ground cyane pepper. at the end of the day u take in one more cup of smoth move herbal tea. ive lost up to 25 lbs in 10 days while cutting weight through this system, if u keep a clean diet once the clenser is over the weight shoud stay off, this is very brutal but it works well, it just requires diciplin. but i just thought id share this, thank u for reading.

Sounds like a surefire way to gain it all back within a few weeks too.
You mention that this is something for the disciplined: wouldn't that entail that one is capable of maintaining a mild caloric deficit or 500kcal/day also?

It is just starvation... ~_~ Along with some random stuff to make a person feel like they are doing something. Starvation fad diets have been around for a veryyyyyyy long time. There are countless variations on them (all with strange random stuff claiming to be the "secret key"...like eating only celery for its "super green goodness of health" ).

as i stated, if u keep a clean diet afterwards ur chances of putting back on r slim. This does work and its provin to work, ask anybody who has invovled in any type of wrestling or ma, but yes does require u to keep a clean diet afterwards to keep it off, meaning very low carb intake and high protien, taking in alota simole sugers such as honey and fruit as a supliment for carbs. ur body will adapt.

If you can keep a clean diet afterwards you can use one to actually facilitate reducing your body weight initially. Why do you portray an asinine starvation model as a reasonable diet?

its not a fad, this is something thats used repetitivly to cut weight, and it does work.

this on not a diet to stay on long term, its ment to flush ur system out. im not trying to argue over something that i know works for flushing ur system and cutting weight, i know for fact that this works, its ment cleaning system not staying on for a long term diet.

The system doesn't need cleaning though, so please explain the rationale? All I see is human inclination to apply short-term, quick-fixes to what ought to be life-long commitments.

This isn't a diet, it's a detox. I've done it a couple of times and it's basically to clear out your system. It works and of course you lose weight as your body will metabolize fat in your system as it's getting less calories than needed.
I don't believe it's intended to be more than a detox.
Kire89

That's fine, but since I haven't seen any evidence of redeeming qualities in detoxification regimens either, I still think this is lousy advice.

Losing weight and keeping it off is simple. Create a calorie deficit and stay persistant. Only way to keep off weight is to not eat over your maintenence calories. It's really simple...

Spot on Harajuku ! I have porridge for brekky ( oats , not man goo before anyone chips in! ) instead on McMuffin or other high fat rubbish .... keep it simple , control portion size (ooh matron!) . I use to eat like a Grizzly Bear , but was starting to resemble one. 2 yrs done 35 lbs , do it slowly , it will (hopefully) stay off. Quick weight loss tends to reverse if you are not careful .

ive lost up to 25 lbs in 10 days while cutting weight through this system
Are you missing a decimal point? As in, 2.5 lbs. in 10 days? I don't think it's possible for a human body to shed 25 lbs. in 10 days. I had dysentery once, and I lost 11 lbs. in 7 days, but that was only because my body was absorbing essentially zero calories for a week. And I almost died.
If you consume 1,000 fewer calories than maintenance per day, with normal physical activity you should lose about 2 lbs. a week. Anything more than that is really bad for you.
And if your liver is functioning properly, you shouldn't need to "cleanse" or "detoxify." The human body does that all by itself.

Anorexia without the shame of an eating disorder? :P
"Detox" and "cleanse" are just new age buzz words to make people feel better about starvation.
Your body naturally has stuff in it...since you are always putting stuff in it, and always stuff is coming out. If you stop putting stuff in it, yea, I guess it would "cleanse" you? But...uhh... that is just starvation ~_~ It is really ok to have stuff in your system, it is how the body works ~_~
At least this isn't the "Master reverse cleanse diet" where you eat but then throw up 10 minutes later to only absorb the "good nutrients" without the "toxins" ((Yea, I just made that up...sounds good, but it is bulimia :P Though, you can't argue with results! woot))

this also is a sure fire way to lose muscle along with fat. Keeping calories below maintenance and exercising is good enough, no need to go this extreme

Without going into a long diatribe here, I just wanted to say the whole calorie deficit thing is bullshit. Calorie deficits and much of what is taught about weight loss, food and its affects on our body is phony and is perpetuated because people don't know any better, including most doctors and nutritionists.
If you actually want to lose weight and cure a myriad of other ailments plaguing the world and especially western society then cut out carbohydrates/sugars and yes this includes fruits.
In the past I've tried every fucking cleanse under the sun - I went vegan for 6 weeks - I exercised and "ate right" - I did a serious bootcamp and saw it all the way through and all of them produced NADA, except sometimes weight gain not to mention terrible triglyceride levels to the point my doc jokingly told me I was too young for a liver transplant and had to do something. I then went very very low carb/zero sugar and lost 20lbs with no exercise, I've kept 15 of it off for almost a year now and blood test levels are finally normal.
If you're interested in the science of it what is healthy and how the body works and the history of how fraudulent "common knowledge" or "common sense" regarding food in our culture came to be try ready Why We Get Fat and what to do about it by Dr. Gary Taubes. If this type of thing is new to you it will blow your mind and if it's not new to you it will blow your mind.

Ok, so you're saying that scientific fact is wrong but the old Atkins diet fad is right?
I agree with you that zero sugar is the way forward because it's sugar that makes us fat, not the fat content of food. As you pointed out, fruit is very sugary and so much of our food now has sugar in it as a preservative that anything sugary should be avoided.
However low carbs isn't healthy. Cutting carb quantity is sensible but the body needs carbohydrates in order to retain water and remain hydrated. If you cut carbs and sugar but take in 4000 calories a day you'll still get fat and that's an absolute fact. I've always had eating issues but was 110 pounds (dangerously underweight) for years despite eating a carb heavy diet.

So, basically the common sense science that calories are measures of energy and your body needs X amount of energy to function a day (depending on the amount of activities you do)... and if you don't take in the amount of calories your body is burning, then your body sources the extra energy from fat / muscle stores to keep running.....is BS?
Instead, we are magic and you can do whatever you want and as long as you stay away from pasta you will lose weight and be hawt.
Seems legit ~_~

It's more complicated than simply calories in / calories out. You will lose weight with a calorific deficit but there are many (health) benefits with low-carb diet/nutrition. There is loads of research in that area and plenty is freely available on the interweb.

Whether you burn a few extra calories by shifting the macronutrient composition towards fat and protein moreso than carbs doesn't take away from the basic principle of caloric surplus and caloric deficits. Westerners are overweight because of caloric overload (ad libitum eating) and sedentary activity. It's not like potatoes and oatmeal were harmful in decades past. That it correlates with a higher carb intake doesn't mean that there's actual causation.
The essence of low carb diets is that they're incredibly hard to create a caloric excess on, but you still won't lose weight if you're not creating a deficit no matter the macronutrient composition (whether it's 70/10/20 CFP or the other way around).

That's funny - You say that Atkins is a fad and in the very next sentence agree with the most fundamental concept of Atkins.
As you said, yes fat in food does NOT make you fat, it is sugar which is the ultimate culprit. Next you must understand that carbohydrates are instantly turned into glucose/sugar once ingested (especially unrefined carbs, but even complex carbs as well). Once you realize there is no difference between sugar and carbs in the context of how your body stores it you are on the road to understanding why you are fat.
It goes against the grain to believe fat doesn't make you fat, but its true.
Here's a few more thoughts:
-carbs and sugar are the cause of heart disease, not cholesterol or fat. People commonly refer to "good" and "bad" cholesterol, this is a false over simplification. Cholesterol is actually a good and necessary repair mechanism for the damages caused by inflammation and excess levels of triglycerides. Hence, heart disease is caused by the exact products you see the American Heart Associations seal of approval on, they get a lot of money for those seals of approval's slapped on the Special K box don't you know. So they lie to you, make you sick while claiming the opposite. (there is so much more to this, but I'm at work and feel I'm already rambling)
-Why do traditional diets work if lowcarb is the solution?- what do you do when you diet? You cut out sodas, chips, cookies, cakes, pizza, etc. Those are all carbs/sugar. The average American diet is overloaded with sugar and carbs and by default this is what gets cut out on a diet and people see results without really understanding the underlying science. The problem is in addition to this they cut out all fats and oils thinking that's really the culprit plus they reduce caloric intake to ridiculous levels and they obviously get sick, feel like shit and fail. They then binge and go back to their normal diet and balloon back up. Whereby if you ate as much as you want within reason and felt full, ate fats and protein but laid off carbs and sugar you will feel satiated and continue to lose weight.
-Lastly as a follow up to the end of the last point and in response to Rabbiteyes and iluv: Yes, calorie deficits are bullshit. The reason for this is that every calorie is not treated the same by your body. Excess carbs(glucose) are stored immediately as fat by our body while Fats and Proteins are not. So again, every calorie is not the same. Most people eat so many carbs that the MAJORITY of them are excess, hence they go straight to your fat cells and you get fat REGARDLESS of calorie deficit or not. Fat and Protein are not stored as fat so you can pretty much eat all you want and your body won't store it. So, it depends on WHAT you eat not HOW MUCH you eat. When I was following this diet more strictly I didn't count any calories and ate a shit ton of food and shed pounds ridiculously.
There's more to discuss that hasn't been even touched here about the carb/ insulin response and how insulin plays into locking fat into you so it cannot be released from the fat cells holding them.
Lastly something you guys can scratch your heads at, a paraphrase by Dr. Taubes which is so painfully genius "Fat people are not fat because they eat too much, they eat too much because they are fat."
I would be most willing to mail anyone a copy of his book to read, granted you promise to send it back to me =)
