20 years? I thought she got 45 to life. She might be out in another 20, if she behaves in prison and gets a board to approve early release.

From what we’ve heard she got a raw deal. There was another thread on this forum where someone was saying he was in contact with her. It seems she doesn’t have lots of sex inside, surprisingly (very f**g surprisingly). Very sad story.

45 to life? What in hell is she convicted of?
That is a lot of time, there are killers who do not get that kind of time.

Well, she should have gotten a lesser charge than what she was prosecuted under. there's a whole thread on here somewhere about it. As a lawyer, I think she should have gotten a lesser manslaughter charge, but it was a Murder in the 1st that she was convicted under. Do a search on here for the thread on her. Here's an article on her as well.

Her lawyer advertises quite proudly that he got her off on the murder in the 1st degree charge. She was found guilty of murder in the second degree, plus some aggravating firearms charge, hence 45 to life.

So did George Zimmerman. Lots of people believe there should not even be a trial, in his case. She was standing her ground. On a more serious note, this shows that, justice is not always fair for poor and minority communities. It sould have been a lesser charge.

And I believe both should get exactly the same verdict and treatment.
Manslaughter.

I was watching a new documentary on HBOMAX and think I spotted Sylvia Boots when they start talking about Trans women in society. Episode 4 "Celestial Bodies" at minute 38:39.

Can anyone confirm this? If it is her she still looks DAMNED GOOD!!!! Some lucky guard in prison is getting his fantasies fulfilled!

I'd like to know that also. Is your 'should be' home just an assumption or did someone say when she was getting released?

GroobySteven (and only GrobbySteve), PM if you would like to know my source.

Sylvia Boots’ original sentence back in 2004 was 20 years to life for second degree murder, plus 25 years on firearms enhancements, for a total of 45 years to life. In 2023, she was resentenced under new, retroactive guidelines, to 15 years to life for second degree murder, plus a four year firearms enhancement, for 19 years total. That means she was immediately eligible for parole. I do not know if she has been paroled.

For those who don’t know the details, this case was truly horrible. Sylvia was involved in a physical altercation inside a nightclub. A few minutes later, outside the nightclub after getting away from that situation, she got out of her car and confronted one of the women involved in the initial fight. A shot was fired—during a struggle over Sylvia’s gun, if you believe her version of events—and the bullet killed a bystander who was not involved in the second altercation.

How is her health? It's been rumored since day one she was in a medical unit for being poz. I have always felt bad about what happened to her since it happened. I feel what she did was totally justified maybe she should have caught a smack for the burner but not much at all. They really went overboard not resentencing her so many straight bad folk got resentencing in their favor even some mob dudes from my area caught passionate release or got resentenced cause most laws were lessoned. Plus she got banged at the bored for another five years that's men's they are looked to keep her at least Another 20 or she would be up in another year or two. Most my friends are in or have been in prison many are out after life bids now doing from 18 to 34 years depending on who it was cause were are all 70s babies so most went in in the 90s . Best of luck to her I was always into her.

I don’t know anything about her health. I do know she is (or was for a long time) housed at a state prison complex that includes male-only medium- and maximum-security facilities as well as the California prison system’s medical facility (CMF) which is classified as medium-security. Since 2021, California law requires prisons to house all transgender inmates according to their gender identity, subject to safety and security issues. Before that, individual institutions made housing decisions for transgender inmates on a case-by-case basis, which meant some were housed in dedicated special units and others were housed in general population. After the law change, a lot of transgender inmates ended up at CMF, where Sylvia had already been for a long time, so you can’t necessarily read too much into her being housed there.

Sylvia was resentenced in 2023 due to retroactive sentencing changes and because her original base sentence was likely a miscalculation by the judge (probably should have been 15 to life plus enhancements back in 2004, not 20 to life plus enhancements). She was eligible for parole in 2023 under a law that makes inmates over a certain age who have already served 20 years eligible for compassionate release. However, she waived her hearing for one year, and so didn’t have a hearing until 2024 when she was well past her (new) 19-year minimum. Having to wait 5 years for another hearing is pretty standard for lifers who are denied their first chance at parole. Those decisions are based on a combination of underlying facts of the original conviction, the inmate’s disciplinary record and rehabilitative programs done inside, etc.

Good looking out on the info
I'm aware about the lifers hitting the board that's why I said if they hit her with another 5 till next board they don't see her for for release yet, if so they would have brought her up in two years but laws are different in every state I can only go by NYC we don't get it so hard over bodies not like LA unless you just go around knocking off random people for the hell of it
