In a monumental political upset, Tea Partier Ted Cruz who 2 months ago, no serious political analyst gave even a slim chance of winning, defeated the Republican Establishment candidate in Texas, and will be a shoe in to become the next US Senator . The reason for the upset ( Grab the Pepto Bismol ) ........The Tea Party and Sarah Palin. Those racist buffoons who shellacked the Liberals in the 2010 election continue to rock the political world. And lest you dismiss him as a ridge running red neck which you have the inclination to do......Cruz is Harvard educated, ( now that should impress you...it certainly did in 2008 !) clerked at the Supreme and served with distinction in the Bush Administration as Solicitor General. The Tea Party....they're coming for you next, so keep underestimating them and keep minimizing thier impact ! :dancing:

I doubt he's a shoe in. It's actually sort of an offensive phrase in a democratic nation that holds elections. Anyway, the Tea Party also has a guy up in Indiana, Murdoch, who might not have an easy time of it.

I think that OMK is right to suggest this character is likely to be electe d- along with a lot of other tea party sponsored candidates round the US.
It's a very disheartening thing to see the tide of unreason surge so high. A problem indeed for the GOP and possibly for the US and the world.

I'd love it for OMK to explain to us all how he reconciles his continued presence in this forum - with presumably a taste for transgendered girls - with the militant anti gay agenda of so many of his beloved radical rightwingers. This man Cruz, for all his undoubted intellectual ability, for instance has actively spoken out against gay rights in the US.

Government out of the lives of ordinary Amemicans - but in their bedrooms?

Ted Cruz is Solicitor General of the state of Texas, you pinhead. He was a low-level deputy AG in the Bush Administration. Presumably, had he actually been Solicitor General of the United States, he wouldn’t be a “political nobody.” Also seems odd for you to characterize the Solicitor General defeating the Lieutenant Governor in the Senate primary as a defeat for the "Republican Establishment," but you've always enjoyed creating distinctions where there are none.

But yes, certainly rocking the political world. In Texas. Where the voters elected Rick Perry to the Governorship so that he could pray to God for rain. Texas has lowest percentage of adult high-school graduates in the U.S. It ranks 47th out of 50 states in adult literacy.

Texas does rank high in some categories, though. 26% of Texas children live in poverty, the 6th highest rate in the U.S. Texas has the fifth highest rate of teen births. And Texas ranks Number 1 in children lacking health insurance.

Great place, Texas. True bellwether of life in these United States.

It does not appear that Republican primary voters in Michigan and Missouri received your memo regarding the Tea Party's totally awesome resurgence. In fact, it looks a lot like Sarah Palin's endorsement of Sarah Steelman in Missouri was a big help to her opponent Todd Aikin.
