I liked Evon, but she always had one hand stoking the fire and the other stirring the pot. She played 'the victim' after slogging out a 30 page argument, and started half of them in the first place. It wasn't cool when a few nasty people made it personal (I can't stand bullies anywhere), or became excessively aggressive! But Evon was an infuriating person to talk to - mainly because she wasn't particularly smart, and had a very high opinion of herself. She misconstrued comments, and manufactured offense everywhere. Most guys here were suckered in by her pretty face, and therefore failed to notice that she was responsible for a lot of the drama she was caught up in...

We had a similar experience with her a year or two ago on a local forum in San Francisco. When she surfaced here, I considered posting a recap of the drama she inflicted on our local community, but held my tongue instead. And it played out here pretty much the same way it played in SF.

Well that was better than the Chaka Khan attempt - mainly because she stuck to her lower register, and kept the ad-libbing to a minimum. There were still a number of dodgy notes and bad timing mistakes in there which betray a lack of musicality.

In short, she can sing a bit (just like most people). Not good enough for a career without lashings of autotune and fluttering her eyelids. Obviously she believes herself to be better than she is - which is why she wants to embellish the phrasing. But it sounds terrible when she attempts to do this because she doesn't have an ear for it...

Still I wish her well... there's enough shit music out there to accommodate a little more.

I don't know who Cheryl is, but I youtube the song and Evon might have sang the song a couple octave higher than Cheryl. I like her rendition. But how she belts notes her voice will be gone soon.

The other song was full of ad libs, runs, and she dodges notes, and growls. I didn't like it. That's why I hate Christina Aguilera they have similar way of singing or should I say yelling?

Well you're asking a few different things there. I do believe music to be an art form and as such will be subjective. That is not the same as singing badly. If she was simply interpreting the songs within a style that was not to my taste, I would say that.

It's hard to explain to someone who knows nothing about it, but the short answer is that music is more technical than most other art forms. There is a freedom of expression within certain rules. It is not a matter of subjective tastes if someone is singing out of key.

The more thoroughly you understand the rules the more you can bend them and push certain limits, but usually you still have to conform to the key and rhythm that has been set (in the music).

I'm not going to discuss whether she should be singing lower as a ts, but both men and women have various vocal ranges. Although a man may be more comfortable in the lower range, we can all switch to our falsetto register and still be perfectly comfortable.

Someone who has more natural talent and has trained their voice will be stronger and more comfortable than your average person - and therefore objectively a 'better singer'.

So is your question a matter of fact or opinion?

Whether you like (or enjoy) her voice and styling is an opinion. But it is a fact that she is not singing in tune.

She also slowed the cher (whatever her name is)song down, and sung it an octave or two higher.

A few things... I didn't say I was a singer; I said I was a musician. I never suggested Evon had had no training. And your 'cousin' possibly needs to find herself a new job! lol

All those vocal techniques you listed can obviously just be emulated from listening to a few Whitney records and would not in themselves indicate any kind of training. That said, I think Evon probably has had (or still has) lessons of some kind.

That means nothing without the talent.

I appreciate that you'd want to trust your cousin's expertise over mine (of which you know nothing about lol) - but don't spout it back at me like it's gospel.

Everyone can hear what Evon's voice is like for themselves, so it's irrelevant what me or your cousin have to say about it.

I have backed up before, and have toured as backup singer. Actually Mariah is 5 octave with the ability to hit 7 octaves with her whistle register. Wiki. she is actually in Guinness world of records. At one time.

I was classically opera trained prior to exploring soul/pop. So excuse the operatic terms, but operatically I'm a dramatic contralto. In pop theres no such thing as voice classification, but i get an idea of what kind of songs to sings. That's the importance. And can tell the range of a person.

Yes I dodge notes but that does not mean i can't reach them, maybe cheating, and yes i do ad-libs, yes I scream I am well aware of the inflections I use, I grunt, I growl, I delay rhythm. It's all part of my style. Fyi I do not use falsetto. Be well aware also that i change the music covers I sing, i change notes, and tempo a lot! I don't sing anything like the singers because that's hard to emulate.

I never said vocal range had anything to do with someone being a great singer.

My faves are Sade and Toni Braxton who have a 2 and 3 octave range. But I think they are the best. Its not my fault i have 4 octaves. I do feel they are biased, and in favor of one party. I don't think it's neutral at all and being a moderator I think the responsible thing to do is to be that... That's my OPPINION.
