A nice response to the fundamentalist Christian insistence that homosexuality is "an abomination." Sorry for the quality.

Religious beliefs

Schlessinger was non-religious until she and her son began practicing Conservative Judaism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conservative_Judaism) in 1996.[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Laura#cite_note-vanityfair09-98-1) In 1998, Schlessinger, Bishop, and their son converted to Orthodox Judaism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orthodox_Judaism),[59] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Laura#cite_note-jewishnews-58) and began instruction under Rabbi Reuven P. Bulka (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reuven_Bulka) of Ottawa, Ontario (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ottawa,_Ontario). During this time, Schlessinger sometimes used Jewish law and examples to advise her callers about their moral dilemmas. She occasionally clarified ethical and moral issues with her local Orthodox Rabbi Moshe D. Bryski, before mentioning them on the air. She was embraced by many in the politically conservative segment of Orthodox Judaism for bringing more awareness of Orthodoxy to her radio show. Some of her expressed views were explicitly religious, and are referenced her 1999 book The Ten Commandments: The Significance of God's Laws in Everyday Life. Although her other books have stressed the importance of morality, they are more secular in nature.
In July 2003, Schlessinger announced on her show that she was no longer an Orthodox Jew.[61] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Laura#cite_note-forward-60)

Dr. Laura?? LMAO. As Dino stated, she's a jew....Must be a slow news day in the Muslim world? Maybe you missed this. Try to craft a "nice response" for this !

And it is Sharia compliant.

(Daily Mail) (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2135434/Outrage-Egypt-plans-farewell-intercourse-law-husbands-sex-dead-wives-hours-AFTER-death.html) — Egyptian husbands will soon be legally allowed to have sex with their dead wives — for up to six hours after their death.
The controversial new law is part of a raft of measures being introduced by the Islamist-dominated parliament.
It will also see the minimum age of marriage lowered to 14 and the ridding of women’s rights of getting education and employment.
Egypt’s National Council for Women is campaigning against the changes, saying that ‘marginalising and undermining the status of women would negatively affect the country’s human development’.
Dr Mervat al-Talawi, head of the NCW, wrote to the Egyptian People’s Assembly Speaker Dr Saad al-Katatni addressing her concerns.
Egyptian journalist Amro Abdul Samea reported in the al-Ahram newspaper that Talawi complained about the legislations which are being introduced under ‘alleged religious interpretations’.
The subject of a husband having sex with his dead wife arose in May 2011 when Moroccan cleric Zamzami Abdul Bari said marriage remains valid even after death.
He also said that women have the right to have sex with her dead husband, alarabiya.net reported.

That's actually a piece of dialog from an episode of The West Wing.

Jesus was a practicing Jew. His deciples called him Rabbi. He rejected that hateful crap in Leviticus. Remember the case where he saved the "adultress" by saying "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."? Jesus preached the universal moral code, as opposed to a bunch of arbitrary rules that make no sense. He was all about reciprosity & unconditional love. It's the same moral code that forms the basis of Zoroastrianism, the Vedic Upanishads, most yogic beliefs & hinduism, Confusionism, Buddhism, & yes Islam, etc... Jesus didn't make up the commandment to "Love thy neighbor as thyself.". That was the first commandment given to Moses by the burning bush. It's just that when the heathen idolators he was leading to the promised land said "HUH???", he had to hike back up & get details. That's when he got the 15 commandments that everybody likes to cherry pick down to 10 to fit their particular agenda.

So where's all the reciprosity & unconditional love in all the rigid silliness of political religion? Real Christians follow the teachings of Jesus. That's not the same as blindly parroting a book.

OMK - the fact i posted a cutting pointing out the illogicality of Biblical literalism does not make me any more approving of Koranic idiocy. All these people of the book who stick to a strict interpretation of their great books are narrow minded and foolish. Christians, Muslims and Jews. You on the other hand are not foolish - but something worse. A craven lying hyprocritical propaganist. And...oh yes....LMAO

The story that was printed in the Daily Mail having been lifted from various other sources is rubbish, no such law on 'farewell intercourse' is being proposed by anyone. The Moroccan cleric who has suggested it might be permissable, Zamzam Abdul Bari (based in Casablanca) is well-known for his eccentric interpretations of the Qu'ran and Shari'a law -such as pregnant women being allowed to drink alcohol.

First off, when a Muslim woman dies, like any other Muslim her body is washed and prepared for burial -but the husband is not allowed to be present during this ritual. No such concept of 'farewell intercourse' exists.

Second, the scurrilous story was a deliberate plant by Tawfik Okasha to smear his political rivals, for he is also a Presidential candidate, notorious Jew-hater and baiter, conspiracy theorist, anti-American and the owner of the al-Fara'een satellite tv channel and described by some as an Egyptian version of Glenn Beck. If you think al-Fara'een sounds a bit like Pharoahs you might be right...

Not the oldest cliche of all, but a pithy one: You shouldn't believe anything you read in the newspapers, particularly if its the Daily Mail!

Brilliant Stavros. I suspected this story was nonsense - especially as you note it being published in the mail - but i didn't know its deeper provenance.

And let's not forget that omk, thanks in large part to Nicole's diligence, is the recognised king of cut and paste on HA. His mantra seems to be "If it fits my prejudices, use it. It doesn't have to be true."

Now wait a minute....this was in the UK press....so it must be true..........no? You mean to tell me they didn't perform due diligence and apply journalistic standards prior to publishing the story ? This is truly shocking until you realize it's probably where you and your ass sucking buddy get your news on a daily basis. No wonder why you're both so ignorant on US politics.....Thank you for helping me make my point....albeit it totally unwittingly on your part !!!!!!!!!! LMAO
So...........the moral of your response would be what??? Don't believe everything you read ....? Priceless

Well we certainly DON"T believe anything that you post OMK.

Prospero

And additionally I'd say - you really think I/we believe everything we read? I was caught on that one - since I do know there are many outrageous positions held by some of the more radical islamists. But then as Stavros pointed out - the story is a fake (posted by you clearly because it appealed to your prejudices) That is - in itself - priceless OMK. If you were as familiar with the UK media as i am with the US you'd know that the Mail is actually a paper you'd love - for it panders to the same blind prejudices as your beloved Fox News - responding to ill-informed prejudice not with challenges, but with a stream of commentary and half truths that fosters a dislike of those of different faith to the mainstream, to those who sexual choices are different and to those who question the the powers that be. All prejudices that fit your (lack of) mind set very well. And incidentally the mail's history is a dishonourable one. it supported Hitler and the Nazis in the 1930s.

What I'd love to see from you - since I am an open minded person - is the yet to be offered substantial and well researched critique of - for instance - your assertion that the Democrats benefit as muh as the Republicans do from the covert activity of big corporations. Or indeed any substantial material from your side of the fence to support your many abrasive and ill informed "cut and paste" ejaculations. C'mon - mr open mind - persuade me with argument, not insults, of your case.

1) You could have asked yourself -if 'farewell intercourse' exists why haven't you heard about it before now? There is no shortage of 'shocking' claims about the Muslim world that its enemies want to tell you about.
-A similar claim surfaced before in a report on necrophilia in Central Africa as a story about the prevalence of HIV/AIDS there, I think in the 1990s.

2) The eccentric cleric who has made the argument is a gift for some people, did Pastor Terry Jones of Florida represent the views of American Christians when he said he would burn a Qu'ran in public?

3) Okasha is well-known in Egypt, he is a candidate figting the Muslim Brotherhood in the elections, he claims there will be a war with Germany, Israel and the USA, he claims the USA was founded by Jews and Freemasons, and so on and so on. He was at one time close to the Mubarak regime, he is a nut-job, that's where he gets his support from, you have plenty in the USA to compare him with.

4) If you knew the reputation of the Daily Mail you would have paused the first time you saw it mentioned there. Printing stories is what papers do, it does't have to be the truth, this is also part of the problem with the more 'popular' Murdoch papers: as long as the story does not print outright lies it can say what it likes and use code words like 'It is alleged' 'sources have claimed that' and then its up to the aggrieved party to take action. The head of Formula 1 Racing, Max Mosley has a taste for bondage, the News of the World claimed Mosley had taken part in a 'Nazi orgy' but they simply made it up to make the story more lurid, because Max is the son of the most famous British Fascist, Oswald Mosley. He could afford to sue and he did and he won.

5) You haven't proved a single point about where I get my information from -if anything it proves that I don't rely on the biased media for my opinions whether it is the Guardian, the BBC, the Daily Telegraph or the New York Times which I can read without moving my lips (as Gore Vidal once put it).

Prospero knows the Middle East, so do I and many others whom I suspect read the posts but do not reply. The same is also true of the USA. That doesn't make any of us right and that you are wrong, I have admitted before when I was wrong, and said I don't get all the nuances in the political debates in the USA that you understand; but there is a difference between depending on media outlets with an agenda of their own, for news, and basing an opinion on first-hand knowledge of a place, years of study, and dare I say it, intellectual ability.
