File this under: one more bit of evidence that the Republican party of today has become so extreme, it bears almost no resemblance to the party of even 15 years ago. Denying science has become a litmus test for national office (see Santorum). This has become such a problem that the group "Republicans for Environmental Protection" is dropping "Republicans" from its title and changing its name to ConservAmerica.
While this makes it easy to laugh at people who defend the modern GOP, it's pretty worrisome that one of the two parties in the world's most powerful country has rejected the scientific method in favor of industry talking points and partisan groupthink.
