I have a hard drive from the laptop and I want to use it on my desktop PC, will this thing from eBay help me? The thing is called USB 2.0 2.5" Hard Disk Drive External Enclosure/Case HD

Thanks,

-Alex

The enclosure requires a standard IDE drive and cable that is typically found in desktop PC's. You may not want to spend your money on that. Typically hard drives found in laptops are designed to run in that laptop and are not neccessarily open-standard architecture like desktop drives.

Unlike the other guy, I am sure this will work. USB is a universal interface. All the logic is on the controller card inside the enclosure. So basically it is this simple. Get the enclosure. Install your 2.5" drive, plug in the USB. Your PC will read the drive. Keep in mind it will be a secondary drive just like a memory stick, not a primary unless your motherboard supports the "boot from USB" feature.

Vickie's right, unless you specifically set your BIOS to boot from USB, it's a secondary drive.

And keep in mind, you'll probably have to re-build windows due to drivers, HAL, etc. So settings, programs, files, etc. will be lost.

/is this a TS hard drive? so many possible puns, so little time

Great, I just measured the hard drive and it seems to be 2 and 3/4 inches wide. Is it same as 2.5?

Its not a TS hard drive but it will hold 250,000+ pictures of Tgirls and videos. Plus otehr stuff of my that I need to keep.

Great, thanks for the info. The HD is 40 Gigs, I think its enought to store all the extra files.

Hope it works, good luck. Now you can put all those pics and vids on a disk, take it with you, and not worry about people finding it. j/k!

Let me know if you run into any problems with it.

I also had another idea for a use for my 2.5 HD. You know all those "Digital Wallets" for the digital cameras? Basicly it has a hard drive, a screen, a controler and a memory card reader inside + batteries. I think that these digi-wallets use the 2.5 HDs inside, so my idea is to buy one of these digi-wallets and swap the HD.

This creates an interesting question...

How do you guys hide your porn/transsexual porn from your wives and girlfriends? First, wives commonly are more clever than you give them credit for. I got an IM from a guy I used to hot chat with... well it was his girlfriend telling me he was crazy and not to respond to his IM's. I also have a girlfriend who found pictures of naked guys on her ex-bf's computer. She never told him she found his stache though.

I've had concerned wives email me after they found my pictures with my web url or my site in the browser history.

All I am saying is hide your porn and clear your browser history. Very curious about all of your sneaky methods. Also consider using XP security and/or locking files, drives, or directories.

Oh a friend of mine hides his porn in password protected zip files.

Vickie, I was thinking of asking the same thing!

I'm single and living on my own, but to answer your question...

My pictures are kept on a server under my desk that I map to in order to save files. No special security other than a domain username and password. Yeah, someone can get onto my desktop and view my history, URLs, stuff I downloaded and didn't move, but I don't really need to worry about people getting on the computer. I'd be a little concerned about encrypting files/folders/zips if I was trying to hide something on a computer used by more than just me. That whole "Hey, what's behind THIS locked door" mentality kicks in.

Of course, the right person comes along it's not a concern to me about them being found: if that someone is a TS, well, duh, no problem. If that person is a GG, then it would be something I'd inform them about: the right person would be someone cool with that.

BTW, I'm really liking that Vickie knows the computer stuff, gives me hope! lol

I am not married so I dont really hide it.

Don't hide it, don't care who finds it, hey, it's me. :D

The Sekrit Service already has a file on me and I bend elbows with Steve Jackson whenever I can (He's the guy who =sued= the Sekrit Service).

If someone's futzing around in my box, they deserve what they find. If it's private stuff, it ain't on here to begin with.

My ex was saying how she was so happy that our son (Now 19) wasn't downloading porn to her computer anymore. I did a search for JPG files and found over a thousand. My son is smart. My ex...well...do the math. Though, on reflection, he should know that I'd eventually flush out his porn stash.

Like I said: Hey, it's me. :D

BeardedOne, you know Steve Jackson? If it's the Steve Jackson I'm thinking it is, I have one of the most amusing Car Wars stories of all time. I imagine it must be, since they got leaned on for the cyberpunk GURPS, I think it was.

Oh, and good luck to those in this thread to who it may apply, I have at last relinquished my pursuit.

That would be him. I met SJ back in the early 80s when all his games were still coming out in the little plastic booklet cases. I already knew him from before, but got to talk to him quite a bit during a visit to Austin in '85. I also knew a couple of guys that worked with him at the ol' tin warehiouse.

I forget which rule book/game pulled in the UST/SS, but I think GURPS was it. <Thinking> Their primary excuse for coming down on him was that they saw the rule book as an 'instruction manual' for computer crime. I do know that after the investigation closed and he hit them with the suit, he used the whole shenanigans and his miniscule settlement from the UST/SS (I beleive it was something like $50k) to have all the books reprinted with a big starburst on the cover: "The Game That Was Seized by the Secret Service!". Of course, his brief blip in Newsweek a couple years later (The first time I'd seen him without a beer in his hand :) ) didn't hurt sales either.

I have a copy of the blueback somewhere, wherein it lists all the acts by UST/SS during and after the raid on the warehouse. They seized and damaged computer equipment, searched employee lockers, etc. Very Eliot Ness/Josef Stalin in their actions. While I have a great respect for the Service as a whole (It's far more than just keeping the Prez safe) the entire SJ fiasco was just plain stoopid on their part and, I'm sure, a huge embarrassment in the end.

Last time I saw SJ was in Chicago, I think (They all run together after a while), a couple of years ago. I've slowed down a lot and he seems to be running at about the same speed as always. I hate him for his energy.

When I was a kid doing the porn thing on my home computer, I used to create nested directories using control characters. I think it was ALT 255 which created blank spaces for the directory name. ALT 157, the Yen sign was another favorite of mine.

Honda, you ungrateful little shit... I give you all those chili tips, and you're not even gonna share your burgeoning culinary prowess with Vicki...the woman that you once adored and now have apparently kicked to the curb for reasons known only to yourself...

this is a shock, indeed...

I feel that those of those on this board that have followed this romantic saga/soap opera with bated breath are entitled to more info regarding this shocking turn of events...

LOL. Yes, I used to hide things, usually not porn though, under the old ALT 255. There were a couple of others that I used, too, though I can't clearly recall them right now. I think one of them looked like an underscore or hyphen, but wasn't. It's amazing how few people actually figured it out. DOS was so much fun.

Thanks for the recipe, chef, I haven't tried it out yet but I plan too. It sounds pretty damn good.

As far as the other matter, there's nothing really to explain. I went nuts for a long time. She was always a nice, awesome girl every time I blew up and flipped out on her Yahoo site, her forums, here, via email, instant messaging. . .uh, I guess I never freaked out over the phone or in person, but beyond that I was kinda looney for over a year.

She's a sweet, terrific girl, otherwise I wouldn't have been after her so hard. I'm just not designed to ever be in a relationship with anyone, by choice, so my pursuit was misguided. She also deserves a better guy then I could be. And that's the end. Live and let live.

Honda, you know that I was just bein a wiseass...It seems like Miss Vicki is very fond of you... I've never heard her say anything to the contrary in this particular dysfunctional forum...

And as for the chili, remember that the cincy chili is a totally different animal from traditional chili...I like it for the variety...either on pasta with shredded cheddar, or as chili on my favorite dogs - Hebrew National...

I recall using a program called bcrypt I think it was called.
It would let you create a Virtual harddrive you could set a password to it.

Doesn't affect me at all--my wife not only knows, she's happy that I'm pulling some extra income by webmastering thailandladyboy.com. She just doesn't want to see the stuff, but couldn't care less otherwise.

I don't hide it and my wife isn't looking for it. Yes, she's seen it, we've discussed it and we're happy as ever.
