The standardized test didn't make kids 'dumber'. Lack of proficiency is a problem with how kids are being taught in school, not the standardized test.

The OP acts like the implementation of No Child Left Behind somehow lowered academic standards.
It's always a bad idea when teachers soley teach for kids to pass a test.

Maybe the methodology needs to be changed, but the idea of a national standardized test for reading and math skills is a good idea.
