View Full Version : Vampire Films That You Would Consider To Be The Anti-Twilight

It's that time of year again. Another faggot Twilight sequel. What Vampire Film would you consider to be the opposite of Twilight?

I'll stick with Nosferatu (Original or Remake). Nothing pretty there as Nosferatu is more the Lord Of The Rats.

There's been plenty of sissy Vampire movies. Frank Langella wasn't exactly Christopher Lee either. Jack Palance was a better Dracula than Langella. Even weirdo Gary Oldman was better.

When I read your question both versions of Nosferatu popped into my head. So, of course I liked seeing that was your choice.

But, Hell, even Hammer's Horror of Dracula was better than Twilight.

But, if I may, back in the 80s I read a vampire novel titled The Light at the End about a punk vampire feeding in the subways of NYC. It had problems, but was bloody and honestly creepy. Don't know if it's still in print -- but it's worth a look in order to get the vile taste of Twilight out of your mouth.

The Russian Night Watch/Day Watch series is good with some fantasy elements thrown in. The old witch lady at the start of Night Watch was a great beginning to the film. "Don't let her clap her hands!"

Most anything from Hammer kicks ass. I was weened on Universal but raised on Hammer. Lee and Cushing have been idols of mine since the day I was old enough to mouth their names.

Another pick is Carl Theodor Dreyer's Vampyr (1932). More creepy German stuff.

Storyline

Young traveller Allan Grey arrives in a remote castle and starts seeing weird, inexplicable sights (a man whose shadow has a life of its own, a mysterious scythe-bearing figure tolling a bell, a terrifying dream of his own burial). Things come to a head when one of the daughters of the lord of the castle succumbs to anaemia - or is it something more sinister? i would make the book Necroscope into a film.Brian Lumley's characters are totally evil and ugly with parasites inside their bodies transforming their appearance and they have the ability to make monsters though their parasites

You always mention Necroscope. I'd see it based purely on your enthusiasm if it were made. Sounds good.

That's true. Twilight is the bottom of the barrel.

"The Lost Boys" was pretty much covered in glitter, as well. I never even bothered with "Lost Boys II"

What Langella did and The Lost Boys crap was the beginning of the end. Near Dark is OK but still too much kissy-face stuff.

Yeah, the Hammer stuff, even when cheezy, had heart.

Haven't seem Vampyr, have heard a lot about it, though. I'll check it out.

How about the original Night Stalker tv movie. My older brother showed it to me once when I was a kid. Been afraid to see it in adulthood. Afraid it won't live up to my memories. Anyone seen it?

You can get all the Night Stalker stuff on DVD for cheap. I watched that and Night Gallery religiously as a toddler.

The Hunger, starring Susan Sarandon, Katherine Deneuve, and David Bowie. "Bela Lugosi's Dead" by Bauhaus FTW.

For that matter, I'd rather watch a bunch of old episodes of Buffy over Twilight any day.

The Lost Boys.

If you guys think it's too 'glittery,' fine, but I'm a girl, so there. :lol

At least it's not about relationships.

Blade is a good Vampire Action flick but it's no Dracula(Lugosi or Lee) or Nosferatu(Schreck or Kinski). Salem's Lot is better too.

Glad to see this one mentioned. Also "In the shadow of the vampire" is a cool one, with Willem DaFoe as Count Orlock. Cool to see those old Nosferatu movies used as the backdrop of another movie.

Did you ask about Shadow Of The Vampire awhile back? Good, huh? Dafoe was fun. I bet he enjoyed playing the part too.

The most anti-twilight film?

Twilight

Nothing makes you hate that movie more then having to watch it.

I'll go with George Romero's Martin. It may not be my favorite vampire movie but it's world's away from the glossy Twilights.
