Comedy is too safe today. Hollywood brags about courage but you'll get blackballed for being too courageous. I could write better jokes than Leno tells or better skits than SNL puts on every week but I'd be fired in 2 seconds for squashing the wrong toes. More fun being a nobody on the internet.

Leno is especially bad. His monologue is awkward and far from seamless. He feels the need to talk about The Bachelor and American Idol all the time and he still makes Charlie Sheen jokes. I know he's trying to appeal to different demos but everything comes across as so lazy.

Some have said we can't have an Archie Bunker today cause of the PC. I think there is humor in things not PC, I don't see harm in humor like Archie Bunker or Fred Sandford. That's a great shame, because characters like Archie Bunker and his UK predecessor Alf Garnett were created deliberately to show guys like them making fools of themselves with their bigotry. We still have plenty of edgy, subversive comedy, but it's either produced here in the UK or comes over from US cable stations. Yes, there's the usual right-wing tabloid furore every now and then, but in the main the broadcasters stick to their guns.
