as gross as it sounds, most likely cooking lard. It's the cheapest and probably worked the best. Although the uppercrust Greeks had access to scented body oils, if you want to romanticize it. Could you share some of the funny ones you've heard?

I've gotten butter, crisco, olive oil, whale jelly, peanut butter, mud, aloe, egg yolks, and lots of other things lol
