He would always play the dumb cop when he first showed up at the crime scene and examined the dead body. But he always knew who did it. Then he'd stalk the murderer every day until they couldn't take it anymore.
We never heard his first name or saw his gun but he was the greatest homicide detective of all time. It was just a TV show but I loved it.

If only real police work could be the same.

His show first made its debut as part of the NBC Sunday Night Mystery Movie. There were four to the series I believe: Columbo,Hec Ramsey, and McMillan and Wife. I can't think of the forth one of the series at the moment.Anyone remember?

no guns, no warrants. the lieutenant's dumb routine would lull the suspect into thinking he lucked out by getting a pushover assigned to the case. but the guilty worm would begin to realize Columbo was crazy brilliant and they'd soon fold like a deck of old cards. Robert Culp was my favorite bad guy. So smug at the beginning and then a whinning maggot when Columbo nabs him with all his lies

Robert Culp did make a good nemesis,as did the late Jack Cassidy, but my favorite Columbo nemesis had to be the late Patrick McGoohan, who butted head with him four times according to a site I just read. Though we viewers knew the outcome, what a chess game those two would play. :)

Great guy, great actor.

Crime movie aficionados may remember him from Murder Inc., Robin &
The Seven Hoods, and the Brinks Job.

And here's just one more thing.....

For me he will also always be remembered as the Grandfather reading the story to his Grandchild in The Princess Bride.
Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die!

I dont understand the raincoat -I know it rains in LA but wheneve I have been there it was hot -isn 't it uncomfortable to wear a mac in that weather?

For me Falk is the friend of John Cassavetes, A Woman Under the Influence one of the most under-rated films about mental illness -a subject that rarely gets a serious treatment in cinema outside of the mad-slasher-escaped-from-the-asylum pictures. Falk plays Gena Rowlands husband, a man who loves her but is exhausted by her dysfunctional behaviour. This is just one powerful scene (incidentally the elderly woman with peroxide hair is Cassavetes's mother and as most know Rowlands was Cassavetes wife). Outstanding acting; how dreadful to die with Alzheimers, not knowing who you are, if that is truly the case.

This is really sad. My favorite movie of his, besides the original "The In-Laws", is "Murder By Death".

That's where I got my sig from. R.I.P., Mr. Falk:(.

That's it! I was just a kid watching The Wonderful World of Disney and all of these cop movies would follow it. They were all great shows in their own right.
