You pay a fee about $30k and must get nominated by a third party (usually your publicist or manager). You must have 5 years experience. The applications are reviewed by the hollywood chamber of commerce and 20 people win each year.

It involves a lot of politicking and knowing the members of the board(allegedly secret but its not) and convincing them to select the nominee.

There is another version on the Kowloon side of Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong, a bit pointless if you dont know much about Hong Kong cinema, and like its LA cousin a waste of paint if you ask me -and there is (or was) a superb Thai restaurant just across the road from what used to be Peanuts, about 100 m or so -or is it Vietnamese? I had a delicious meal there anyway. I saw no shame on the Blvd...
