I think I really experienced Xmas this year..........................

I hung out at a small gathering with some really close friends and we just had a great dinner, cracked some jokes, took alot of pictures, and listened to really good music. While there were gifts they seemed insignificant, to me the best gift was being with people I can honestly call my friends..............

In all the years I have existed on this tiny ass rock in the universe I think this is definately the year that I enjoyed Xmas the most.

My oldest group of friends and I did something similar at the Jersey Shore on Friday night. I've known this group of guys since I was thirteen years old, and we have always stayed close no matter where we moved or what we have done.

Everyone flew or drove in for a dinner cooked by a friend who works as a chef in Atlantic City. He cooked us huge cuts of filet mignon in some special sauce that I had never tasted before. All I can say is, "wow." The whole thing lasted until almost 6AM with us laughing the entire time. I've always been fortunate to have a large circle of exceptionally loyal friends, but when I think of family, these guys are it. It was the best Christmas gift I could have asked for.

You two are part of a very small handful of Americans who know that Christmas isnt something you buy in a store. Buying gifts for someone because the retailers make you feel obligated to do so has nothing whatsoever to do with love which is the real reason for that first Christmas long ago, and should be today as well! I wish you a Merry Christmas even though I know you've already found one and I hope the happiness continues for many many years to come

Nice christmas you had JWBL...

I agree christmas isnt something you buy in a store, however, sadly,my family (still in LA) have taken that sentiment to the extreme.

Their christmas goes something like this....

christmas music from cable radio...decorated fake tree..lots of food..over eat and sit around and reminisce about my late grandmother....no gifts..none....nothing to seperate christmas from any other family gathering except for a tree and Bing Crosby warbeling in the back ground about a white christmas...very very dull and lame IMHO.Shit they didnt even watch the Laker game....doesnt fit into their idea of a "traditional christmas" event.

Their Thanksgiving is even worse...go to Mimi's and eat...more gloomy talk about my grandmother..stand outside the restaruant, chit chat, hug and split....I was going to go back to LA for T-giving but when I found out Mimi's was once agin on the agenda I decided to eat Thai food instead here in LOS.

dont get me wrong,my g-mother walked on water and i miss her just as much as anyone, but my family has taken any kind of festivities out of the holiday and made it just another day to overeat and exchange the same old one-liners they have said for the last 20 years.....No Thanks!
