Ben I take it you're a rather young lad then not have heard the word trousers I believe they used that term here in the States in 60's I was born in 1965.

Romance languages and English have such odd words for "pants".

Pantaloones, bragas, knickerbockers, slacks, dockers, pants... however, "skirt" is a sexy word.
