Quite literally.

I was very relieved to find out the so-called "Patriot" act was in trouble. It's dangerous to have a writ of Imperium if you want to keep a Republic of the People.

The only saving grace the Patriot act had, (unlike the Sedition Act of 1917, which had to be actively removed from the books) is the sunset period. It not-being-renewed is a GOOD thing. (Speaking as a right-wing survivalist gun-nut here.)

The potential for abuses (as shown in Ms Katt's links) is too great, the power is unchecked, and in more, shall we call it, "active" hands domestically, it's a weapon pointed at the very heart of American Democracy. (the result of passing bad laws when everyone is scared, instead of thinking.)
