So today I get in my last argument with upper management and I tendered my resignation effective immediately...I was going to storm off 2 months ago, but I really tried to stick it out until after Christmas..../shrug.

That may not have been the smartest thing in the world to do considering the economy, but right now I feel like celebrating!!!!

On another note, is anyone looking for someone thats very talented with a variety of skills??? I can send a resume if so!!! Im looking for a change, and Im willing to relocate! Send me a PM if interested...

Well maybe not the best thing in the world to do without a backup plan.
Good luck though and congrats on following your convictions.

What kinda work do you do? What was the argument about?

I think you need to give a good description of your skills and where you think they can best be utilized. And I would advise against 'broadcasting' the way youd decided to end your relationship with your employer - it would definitely cast doubt on your judgment (in certain quarters).

Finally, you just may have what it takes to go out on your own. That way your boss will always love you and yout worker will break his back for you too.

Heya Vicki...the arguments always been about company policy and a pervasive corporate attitude of focusing on minutiae instead of making money and the big picture. Its been boiling for the last 4 months or so, but it really started the first month I was hired.

@Brickcitybrother

Oh no you misunderstand...I want people to know exactly why I left, heh. Im not going to roll over for another employer again, thats for sure. You may not like me, or what I have to say when you ask me for my opinion, but Ill get the job done....Im not working for anyone who wants a syncophant.

I manage companies/facilities. Lately its been apartments and storage facilities, but I did a stint as a retail manager, a call center manager and even a construction foreman way back in the day lol.....Ive been in middle management a long time, heh. With my skill set though, I can do management in almost any field.

Ok. Fair enough. Given the rise in call centers - I know you have a ready market in need of your skill set. More so if you are available for relocation.

They say that December is the best month to find/look for a new job. All the best. Up here in Calgary, we have 3.3% unemployment, so if you have oil & gas skills, the money is hear, but you have to contend with the Canadian dollar discount!

I once worked for an employer who was driven by a need for validation and only wanted his senior managers to be "yes" men. I walked out because I didn't want to be anyone's toady – no matter how well they paid me. I didn't have a backup plan at the time, and it was stressful for a while, but in the end, it was completely worth it. There are plenty of employers who want managers that think for themselves. Best of luck.

You should just start your own business, you have the right attititude and you definitely need control over the process. Working for somebody else always sucks and it isn't going to change.

Welcome to the world of the unemployed my friend, it's been a struggle for me sense I lost my job 4 months ago. Of course I beat up a fellow employee (my bad). The bright spot in your story is that you quit and stuck to your guns, I admire those with convictions (Not the fellony kind) and it's always better to walk out the door on your own than to be escorted out by someone else.

I recall that the business license process alone is a major pain in the ass. Go to Delawhere. Pretty much all you need do there is say "I wanna start a business" and they throw a bunch of simple forms at you and tell you to come back when you gross your first quarter mil (When the 2% franchise tax kicks in). While the banks are throwing most of their call center work to central India, they still seem to need lots of middle management locally and the local region is still booming to handle the needs of the Philly and Baltimore suburbanites that are migrating here.

I know all about the quitting-to-stay-sane thing. My record was back in the early '90s when I walked out of the same job at least six times. Each time they called and asked me to come back, sweetening the deal with each call. By the time I finally cracked in '91 (The stress of running a one-man office that was supposed to have at least four people in it) I was the only non-management person there with paid vacation, a company car, and my own say in office hours and such. I must have been doing =something= right.
