I've been getting alot of them here lately. Anyone have an idea of why that might be?

Seems to be a lot of it going around. I've been treating it like the ghost in the machine, but I saw at least one of the mods saying that they knew there was a glitch and it was being looked into.

It seems to be going around other systems as well. A second-tier auction hosting site that works with eBay just had a week of pure hell followed by a series of aftershocks (Which are escalating, now that eBay has jabbed them with a stick for breech of their availability agreement). It's apparently tied to the database programming.

Note that I am also guessing based on armchair neepery.

We're upgrading the server this weekend.

The Upgrade should be completed by Sunday/Monday.

This should fix the errors that have been popping up.

And I'm even more curious to know who hacked this forum recently.

This forum was not hacked. There was a database glitch which caused an old backup to be loaded.

Ironically enough, when attempting to post to this thread, I received the following message:

phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database

While this has been happening for a while now, it appears to be getting progressively worse with each passing day. It's getting so bad, I seriously considered taking one of those hour long vacations everyone keeps taking

Yup, that's the one. Damn, I hate it when servers get critical. :x

Maybe I should do that vacation thing, too. Hot chocolate, cinamon schnapps, wrap up on the deck in the nasty windchill and wait to see how long it takes for a Coast Guard cruiser to come by and chop out the barges. Brrrr.

LOL.. Don't get all carried away at once with delusions of grandeur. We're clearly not as sophisticated as the "B'more" set and would need to work our way up to a place as swanky as Ruby Tuesday's.

This is the standard phpBB error message when there is a problem connecting with the MySQL database, usually because either the database connection information in 'config.php' is wrong or the database service on the server is not running. I'm sure NYCe is on top of it. He mentioned a server upgrade, and my suspicion is the database has grown very large and is generating connection failures which will be addressed by the upgrade. I've been this route before; hang tight and they'll get it sorted.

LMFAO...at least we know whose name to drop with the maitre de...

I don’t know how true this is – and I don’t want to get your hopes up or anything – but word on the street is that if we drop that special name we actually get a free order of potato skins. Talk about cachet!
