I can't tell you how much nail-biting I was doing over "anti-american" sentiment.

Whew! I'm sure Americans will sleep better now. Unless those pesky worries about paying their mortgages keep them awake. But then again, they'll sleep warm with the knowledge that their grocery bags are reusable.

I don't have to sell my ass to make a living. I own a business (since 1988). I was busy handing Hippifried his own stupid ass in bag here.

http://www.hungangels.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=49714&page=20

Check the links I used dummy, Reuters / PBS, CNBC....all right wing bastions. Not.

After a quick scan, I could shred that total bullshit list of 107 things he did that were actually noteworthy down to about 15.

But right now I'm going to the bar...if I feel like subjecting myself to reading your stupidity one more time, I'll get to it tomorrow.

Ciao

You don't have to have a mortgage. If you can't afford it, rent a home.

In all seriousness, Pomona, it's not the Economy I worry about. We are a resilient nation and we'll recover. Financial and economic crises are part of that Free Enterprise system we espouse here in the west. So no matter what, we will always have crises in a Capitalist system.
What I worry about my friend is the END OF THE WORLD if we let the Bush crowd and Sarah Palin-likes run this country again. They seriously believe we are in the end of times and the Messiah is coming back. And for that Armageddon must happen.

Somehow all these folks had an epiphany during the last decade about Islam being an evil religion and converting all of the people of the Middle East to Christianity. (including Jews) Due to their ignorance, they don't know that Islam is a very old religion that remained a fabric of the Middle East since its inception. Although many tried to root it out. The most successful attempt was during the Mongol invasion. Mongols slaughtered everyone in their path but even that did not root out religion.

So to get back to the point, I prefer to have a crisis than a war that will end all wars.

Islam is an evil religion and it didn't become evil in the last decade, nor did the West wake up to it's evilness in the last decade. Islam has been evil since their pedophile prophet invented it out of thin air. Don't agree? Ask any non-muslim in the muslim world..... that is, if the dhimmi is allowed to speak freely.

omg i can't believe the stupidity, ignorance and short sightedness of some these people here, but yet they have the strongest opinions on subjects like these.

just for the record, i'm western, and raised christian (catholic). at this point i am an atheist tho. or at least agnostic. why? because EVERY religion is or was evil at some point. having that said, i still think that every religion that works with a 'god' (or gods) who you should worship/fear is evil. if controlling a public with fear is the definition of terrorism, then how is religion not terrorism as well?

anyway that's beside the point for now. the islam is much younger than, for instance, christianity. The catholics also had their evil period at roughly the same age the islam is at now (ever heard of the crusades?).
i also think 'muslims' are often mistaken for 'north-africans' or 'arabs'. there's a difference between a religion and a certain population group. some human tribes have a certain amount of temperament, heat, whatever u wanna call it. add some frustration to that and presto: angry aggressive people. so yes, i agree that there are population groups who (ab)use their religion for malicious purposes, muslims being one of them, but have you ever heard of evil muslims in let's say singapore or china? oh wait, you probably didn't even know there are muslims in china did you..
i can tell you i have plenty of friends who are muslims (somalians, indonesians, turks, moroccans) and they are everything but evil or bitter or hostile. i've also attended some muslim weddings and other parties and these are among the most open and friendly families i've ever come across.

my point is, the aggression amongst 'muslims' these days has more to do with geographical/cultural and political/economical factors than religious ones. at least these so called evil muslims have the balls to say 'we don't like you, we don't want you, and we're gonna do something about it', where as christian priests hide in their safe lil isolated monestaries and molest little boys without anybody having a clue.

EDIT: wait...how did we get so far off topic again..? lol

I agree with Amsterdamage. No amount of citing 'independent' links can compensate for stupidity and ignorance. The media only report what goes wrong, not what goes right. Dumb to base any opinion on that without knowing the real facts.

WRT Obama: in the US' right-wing society this is a brave attempt at a fair society with chances for everyone instead of the rich only. Alas, the conservatives in power everywhere will make sure that none of his plans will actually be executed as intended so that they can report that he's failing... it will take a complete reform of American society (with less power to the religious fanatics) to become a true country with equal opportunities for all, wherever you were born or whatever colour your skin has.

I don't see that happening because the financial stakes are too high, and the general public tend to believe what they're told.

You can always spot a liberal by their belief that Americans "tend to believe what they are told". In other words, liberals believe that Americans are stupid and them and their failed belief systems are the cure for what ails the average stupid person.

Looking at the ignoramus in the white house, it's a miracle they can harbor this delusion.

You have to wonder what stupid considers to be stupid.

Americans "tend to believe what they are told".

and that's very true. Let me rephrase that into something a little more subtile: The majority of the American public tends to believe what the government + other lobbies tell the media/schools/wikipedia to tell the public.

Where you're wrong is that this has anything to do with Americans being stupid. Of course Americans are not stupid by definiton, no population is. I'd prefer to call it brainwashed. The American education systems are more and more DE-educating, and the information systems (i.e. the 'news' and other mainstream media) are more and more disinforming. Repeat a certain message over and over again, leave an other certain message out, and before you know it you have an entire group taking it for the truth, whether it is or not.
In addition to that, the popuation is being discouraged to think twice and to ask themselves or others critical questions about the things that matter. Luckily there's always a handful who DO do that, which provides at least some counterweight.

Anyway if it makes u feel any better: America is far from the only nation where this happens. But because America is so big, both in size as in influencial power, things like these do tend to impact the rest of (at least the western) world as well.

I don't blame Amsterdamage one iota for having that misconception. Because thanks to your LOUD FauxNews and their LOUD marketing and propaganda tactics, they succeeded in making the whole world believe that Americans are gullible people and tend to believe every rumor.

Hey the last one was about Obama's international trip costing tax-payers some 200 Million dollars every day. When Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin and every program on Fox news repeats that fabrication every hour during the whole the trip, interviewing simple citizens LIVE who believe in this astronomical figure, well of course people sitting in Amsterdam will be saying t themselveso: Well wait a minute, Americans tend to believe everything. They are indeed simple people.

Jesus...where the hell do I start? Since my reply won't be copied and pasted, but rather my own words and independent thoughts, we'll take these a few at a time...

1. Saved the collapse of the American automotive industry by making GM restructure before bailing them out, and putting incentive money to help the industry

A. Although I have mixed feelings on this ( as does one Robert Reich) because I have family that works for Ford...the bailing out of the auto industry as you put it will prove in my
opinion to be a colossal mistake. Look...more than a few successful companies tried to turn Chrysler into a profitable enterprise and failed. If Dymler couldn't do it...what makes you think the government can. Chrysler will die a slow death as it should. The real big fish in this deal was GM. GM had misread the American auto market for decades with such boondoggles as the "Hummer". I know first hand...I bought a new truck in 2000 and by '03 it the frame was rusted so bad it had to be crushed for scrap. And the GM dealer?? His response was "sorry but the warranty has expired" Fuck them. They made shit cars and screwed the public for years. They made terrible deals with the UAW and kept plants open decades after they should have consolidated. It costs over 2500 bucks on a new GM car just to cover the union pensions. Why should we reward such colossal failure with taxpayer money? We have the marketplace solutions such as Chapter 11 for such things. They could have reorganized as hundreds of companies have and emerged sleeker and stronger. The irony is GM was making donations to largely democratic candidates with our money...And oh yea....your guys Auto Czar who negotiated these sweet deals has pleaded guilty to fraud...he's a fucking crook . That would be one Stephen Ratner. And this latest GM IPO stock offering...you think the taxpayers who's money was used to bail these thugs out got to take advantage ?? Ha ha ha ha . Think Again. The deals were closed unless you were huge brookrage house or a foreign investor. Want a good car?? Buy a Ford or a Tenesee made Toyota!

2. Shifted the focus of the war from Iraq to Afghanistan, and putting the emphasis on reducing terrorism where it should have been all along

A. Nice try. The surge was successful and the draw down already underway long before he was elected. Oh and by the way....wasn't your guy who you now give all the credit to for Iraq, against the surge?? Hmmm...that's an irony. You are correct in saying that Obama's focus is on Afghanistan, but take an afternoon and read the Bernstein book "Obama's War". Trust me...after reading it you won't come away with the feeling this guy is committed to Victory, but rather getting out as soon as we can regardless of the vacuum or situation on the ground that we leave. Remember...this was the war Obama called "The Just War". Afghanistan is an absolute mess and almost no one feels we can turn it around. 80% of the Afghans have no clue why we're there....when is the last time you heard Obama discuss at length and in detail our mission, our current situation, our prospects for victory? He's not committed to winning, yet he won't pull the plug...the result is a quagmire and men dying who are uncertain of the mission.

3. Relaxed Anti-American tensions throughout the world

A. Ahhhh yes. The rest of the world loves us now. And exactly what can you point to to for all that bowing to foreign leaders has gotton us? They just sent him back from the G20 with his tail between his legas and no trade agreement. The Europeans think
our fiscal policy is dead wrong and they are heading in the opposite direction after generations of social democratic fiscal and governmental polices have left them on the edge of the financial abyss. Ask Angela Merkel ! They scolded him for all the deficit spending when he was in Europe. Glad we spread all that love around...it's really paying huge dividends in Iraq, and North Korea and Pakistan. He's alienated Israel to the point they publicly rebuke him....and to what end? A mid east peace? Hardly...not even Peace talks!

4. Signed order to close the prisoner "torture camp" at Guantanamo Bay

A. I couldn't wait to get to this one !!!!!!!!!!! What a knee slapper this one is.. Even his base is unsatisfied at his progress in Gitmo. He now understands the difference between a political campaign, and making promises and actually governing. That order he signed ain't worth the paper it's written on. 30 years from now they'll still be terrorists in cells in Gitmo. It's just the reality....and he was obviously naive to think otherwise, just like he was naive in attempting to move these trials (Khalid Sheik Mohammed) to downtown Manhattan. How's that workin' out for him?? He tried to move the Gitmo terrorists to Michigan...remember that debacle? No my friend....don't expect to see weeds growing in an abandon Gitmo prison yard anytime soon ! And frankly I'm OK with that, but don't make it sound like an accomplishment!

Are you sure? Won't you be using Commentarymagazine.com for some ideas. hehe... remember: (http://www.hungangels.com/vboard/showpost.php?p=834204&postcount=10)

Ah, I see. when you draft your original thoughts you do so in bold letters, I guess to give power to a rather empty argument. OK...

Hey I am just messing with you man. (I am assuming you are a guy, correct me if I'm wrong as I've made that mistake earlier) I am glad we raised our debate to an intellectual level instead of that stupid bickering about rape.

I can understand where you're coming from with respect to Gitmo, but you have to give this administration credit for wanting to change their policy when change was warranted. Unlike the stubbornness of the previous one.

Regarding the G20 meeting, well America lost a lot of its economic respect when it dragged the whole World to a deep recession in 2008. And with all the crazy spending on two wars (a projected three-trillion dollars) no wonder they refused to agree with Obama's plan to stimulate the world economy. They look at America's huge military budget: A staggerring $664B which is larger than the military budgets of planet earth altogether minus the US of course. Also last time they did listen to us, they got screwed over. I don't think Bush would've been as successful.

Regarding the auto industry, I think you are wrong. It was a mere 25 B dollars that was needed to save them and now they are profitable and we're gonna end with a profit on that investment. Which is something rare in terms of government spending. Finally you're last commentmade me LOL.

Cheers,
