Apparently GLADD is upset about the use of the term "Tranny". I for one am not particularly offended by the term "Tranny". Terms like "She-male" are much more offensive in my opinion.

So:
(1) You would support Apple banning a "Shemale"-themed app from the iPhone?
(2) You would support banning a "Shemale"-themed website from the Internet?

I don't know if I would go as far as "banning" a she-male app or site...I simply wouldn't support it.
wait, what is this app supposed to do anyway?

I dont get why GLAAD is in such an uproar over the word Tranny??? So many of us girls call ourselves trannies and I use it a lot. I have no offense to it. I dont like shemale but I understand its a word used in porn, but dont call me that in person. Call me a transsexual or in short a tranny. They were in an uproar this summer over tranny being in Ticked Off Trannies with Knives... it's so stupid! Get over the freakin word, a lot of us girls don't care why should GLAAD????

It's just politics and GLAAD is just another political group. There's always an ulterior agenda behind the song and dance show.

I agree with the OP, 'shemale' is much more offensive than 'tranny,' although I don't think anyone should use the latter either... except trannies. IMO, it's a reclaimed word.

*Sigh* GLAAD needs to get a life. Murder, rape, and abuse of transgendered people is rampant, and they want to get all huffy over a slang word that is rarely seen or used outside of the trans culture and whose primary use is between 'tranny's' themselves?
Puh-leeze!
I'm still puzzling over the fact that some of our ladies find my typed/written use of the word 'gurl' somewhat disturbing (A personal construct to differentiate between GGs, TSs, and dykes: Girl, gurl, grrl - Though the last gets confusing if I am talking about dykes/grrls and cats/grrlz). In deference to what I have found to be a growing opinion, I've actually tried to tone done my use of this pseudo-word.
Some of the ladies on this forum, be they active or lurkers, know me personally, have met and talked with me, and (I would hope) know that I have never had any kind of ill will, prejudice, or disrespect for them or their (Dare I suggest it?) 'race' or culture, yet sometimes a word is just a word. True, those such as 'shemale' and 'tranny' are grating, disrespectful, and degrading (And, speaking for myself, I do not use many of these words in common conversation) but I can't help but recall the children's rhyme:
"Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me"
While one was beaten with a fire extinguisher, another shot, another raped, beaten with a frying pan and =then= shot, and another hurls herself off a bridge, you lot are pissing and moaning about semantics.
Get the fuck over it.

You guys kill me with nothing better to do than trying to start a fight. Grow the fuck up! I know what the browser says and like I said: I WOULDN'T SUPPORT FOR A SITE THAT USED THE TERM. I DON'T SUPPORT THIS SITE...IT SUPPORTS ME!

I think the word "tranny" has wormed its way into pop-culture (terms such as: Tranny Chic for instance..lol) so I doubt its going away any time soon. I believe that's the type of term that might be mildly offensive to some and maybe not at all to others...but I think you'd have to have almost translucent skin to be upset by it (type of people very offended by this are probably "knee-jerk" offended by almost anything).

Purely by posting you are supporting it. You are keeping it active, you are keeping search engine terms relevant and you are helping it's ranking.
You may not like it, you may be getting the better part of the deal but you ARE supporting it. Well Done! :ignore:

You forgot about one important thing: using disrespectful and degrading words creates an atmosphere that makes others feel that the disrespect intended is legitimate and that violence is acceptable, i.e. 'it's ok, it's just a shemale.' People who have that attitude towards GGs are considered sick and misogynistic, but towards transsexuals? For many people it's OK to get physical with us because, well, we're all still men, right?

It's because an overwhelming number of CD's and TV's use that spelling and so if you're really interested in showing love to 'people' on this site, IMO, you should use terminology that respectfully represents that. Taking a little time to get your terms right shows more respect than we normally get from the chasers that degrade us while they claim to 'love' us. So many do so because they think we're weak, desperate, and will let them get away with stuff that a GG won't.
Girl, transsexual, woman, TS, or a combination of those terms works for most transwomen.

Except that she's not one of those people. She's totally right. Just because some of us don't like particular terminology, it doesn't mean we can avoid the benefits of doing the best we can within the 'system,' so to speak, to change it for the better. The best message boards provide a symbiotic promotional relationship between the site and its members. :geek:
So... down boy! :yingyang:

Disagree. Sudden use of obscenities, all-caps, and grammar mistakes are indicative of "flying into a rage".

I concur, spot on response.
I had planned to make a similiar response, you've beat me to it, and you
have done it cogently and succinctly.
