Well I love Psycho, it really creeps me out everytime I see and I always get a kick out of Anthony Perkins in drag-but my heart goes a little further for the colored ones...I just love the feeling of his colored films.

But Psycho and Spellbound with all those INCREDIBLE Salvador Dali sets are my favbe Hitchcock B&W

Nice to know a lovely lady is a fan of Hitchcock. Are you a fan of other Classic Horror? I made a thread about Universal Horror (http://www.hungangels.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=50233) that you might want to check out. Hammer Horror is given a mention there too.

Well I am huge classic film fanatic so I have watched pretty much all of Mr.Hitchcock's films as he is one of my favorite directors.

I like more suspense/horror type that really gory films-those just gross me out.

The scariest movie I ever of course is The Excorcist for me and when I first saw it as a teen I could not sleep for about two weeks. STILL creeps me out.

Most of his films are classics but I would my favourite is

North By Northwest

Though Vertigo, Rear Window and The Thirty Nine Steps are pretty close.

For a non-Hitchcock, North By Northwest lite try checking out Charade, very good

Oh and Legend try and find "The Hitchhiker" a great anthology show that came on HBO in the 80's.

It was great and had a great theme song.

Tales From the Darkside is great too.

I thought Disturbia and Eagle Eye were both reasonable tributes to the Hitchcock style taking the premises of Rear Window and North By Northwest and bringing them into the modern era.

I love High Anxiety by Mel Brooks too.

Hey Legend , watch the tv series "Night Gallery".

I've loved Night Gallery since I was a kid. I've got Seasons 1 & 2 on DVD and am waiting for #3 to come out. The 90 minute pilot movie is classic. Roddy McDowell and Joan Crawford star in their own episodes andd Steven Spielberg directs one.

Rod Serling was a genius, way before his time, and it was a huge loss to all when he died. I also recommend the massive Twilight Zone Box Set with all the episodes and a ton of Special Features.

North By Northwest: My all time favourite. I can watch it again and again...
Rear Window: Superb film craft, and Grace Kelly... Wow!!!
Strangers On A Train: Cool thriller. Shame Robert Walker died after making it...
Psycho: Great atmosphere and fantastic music.
Frenzy: Top notch murder thriller. Except for the rape scene... "Lovely, lovely..." lol

The only Hitch film I never liked was Marnie...

Speilberg directed the Crawford episode. I believe it was his directorial debut, and she was not pleased because he was so young- and she was well JOAN CRAWFORD.

Ever see Scorsese's Box Car Bertha or Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore?

There seems to be a consenus on the earlier films -The 39 Steps and Strangers on a Train; the stage play Dial M for Murder retains its drama with excellent acting throughout.

The problem for me is the latent or blatant misogyny in Hitch's films -sizzling sexual chemistry in 39 Steps, Rear Window and North by Northwest, anger with women bordering on if not actual misogyny in Vertigo, Psycho (surely one of the most overrated films ever made), and Marnie which Hitch sabotaged because Tippi Hedren repulsed his unwanted advances. Nevertheless, Marnie is under-rated as a psychological study.

I don't rate Hitch as highly now as I did when I was in my 20s, curious how taste changes over time -so I guess its me not him...

To a point, I agree with you on Psycho. But I also think people are desensitized to the subject matter of that film. It's been redone about a half a dozen times, by all kinds of directors and casts, and psychotic murderers are now practically glorified in pop culture.

My favorite ode to Psycho is in Ken Russell's Crimes of Passion, which actually stars Anthony Perkins playing a similar character.

I think I've mentioned to you how much I like Crimes Of Passion. Perkins is equally nuts in Edge Of Sanity which is a take on Jekyll & Hyde except instead of a potion the good doctor smokes crack.

The Wrong Man is a great obscure noir with Henry Fonda, based on a true story, plays like a documentary.
The 39 Steps - I love this one, a great blend of drama & humour. So many great scenes, e.g. asking Mr Memory at the end "What are the 39 steps?" "The 39 steps is an organisation of ..."
Rear Window
Shadow of a Doubt is pretty creepy.
Psycho, of course

If you really like Hitchcock I recommend the book of interviews he did with Truffaut.

Alfred Hitchcock Presents had some great old actors on it, one classic had Steve McQueen, Neile Adams, and Peter Lorre engaged on a wager involving a cigarette lighter and a butcher knife.
Alfred said that working with Grace Kelly out in the air was like working with nobody, but when she got in the back seat of a cab with him, all this stuff started happening.
You put any woman's photo next to Grace Kelly and suddenly they don't look so perfect.
And don't forget Marnie.

The Birds. ( don't be surprised if they make a 2nd remake of it)

as for Alfred Hitcock presents (made for TV series) the episode where a arrogant tycoon get paralyzed in a car accident with the steering wheel
damaging his throat, vocal cords and weakened his pulse. the Coroners left him on the table slab for dead and were just about ready to cut him open ...when .... (can't spoil the surprise ending for ya)

Wow... tough choice. I like Rebecca (1940), which won the Oscar for best picture, but not for best director, and Notorious (1946). Of course the train scene on North by Northwest is also pure movie magic.
