Hey natasha,

Yeah there are lots of things to see and do. This country relies heavily on tourism so everything you could imagine is here.

A few ideas:
-chill on the beach on Koh Larn or Koh Samet (each not too far from Bangkok)
-Temple, temple, wat, wat (once you have seen one you have seen them all but they are nice for photos)
-Go to the Calypso Cabaret to see a ladyboy revue. I hear that it is good fun with nice food and drink. A few Korean friends of mine went and had a great time.
-Nana plaza to check out the ladyboys (same with Patpong and a few other places)
-watch competitive Muay Thai. (can be hit or miss depending on who is fighting)
-I live in Bangkok so I can go out to meet you if you are lonesome.
-Tiger Zoo in Sriracha
-Vertigo rooftop bar. It's pretty nice but pricey.
-River cruise down the Chao Phraya
-Floating Market in Ayuttaya
-The old city in Ayuttaya
-The tiger temple in Kanchanaburi (there are a few other places that offer the same thing but i've never been)
-Sex shows in Patpong. Women literally shoot darts out of their pussy with amazing precision and accuracy.
-Try some Thai food at a decent restaurant. If you like spicey food of course.

Well that's all I could think of off the top of my head. How long will you be here for?

I hope you enjoy your stay.

Just so you know, the three places with the largest concentrations of ladyboys available as escorts are:

Bangkok: Nana Plaza is most famous. Nana Hotel across street is considered a nice place to stay, and friendly toward bringing home "visitors". Patong is the other famous spot in Bangkok.

Pattaya: Coastal report town not far from Bangkok. More laid back. Some consider it "ladyboy heaven."

Phuket: Resort town on large island in SW Thailand.

For more info there are a couple of good ladyboy forums: http://www.ladyboyspattaya.com/
http://www.bangkokladyboys.net/forum/index.php?

Don't have a link to a Phuket forum--not as interested in going there.

I don't know if this is meaningful to you at all, but others might be interested.

for high end clubs go to an area called Thong Lor, lots of clubs there with lots of thai hi-so's models, actors etc, also Bed Supper club and Q Bar. If you want high end stuff. Khao San rd in Banglampoo area for more tourist non-red light scene. You should pick up alot of info aorund there from people who have been staying in Bangkok for a while.

My Thai "girlfriend" has an apartment in Thong Lo. Fking terrible as she has no air conditioner. Actually she does have AC but she won't use it because of the power usage. Khao San, pretty nice to stroll through but too many hippies for my liking.

I haven't been yet but I here phuket can be a lot of fun. A good mix of r&r and partying. The ladyboys in patong look amazing in the videos of the "street action thailand" thread.

Phuket is great, the owner of Cocktails & Dreams is English and has high standards, definitely no rip-offs or bill padding. The girls are beautiful. there is also Soi Croc with the girls on the podium every night. Trade is terrible at the moment so they could do with yoour business.
Pay for every drink as you buy it in the other bars.

The Grand palace, Wat Po, and Wat Arun are the main cultural sites for tourists, but all are definitely worth seeing.

Take a trip on the Skytrain and along the river by boat (eaither the public boats or a longtail boat that can take you down some of the canals).

Go to the Siam Square area and look at the juxtaposition of the 6 huge shopping malls against the people shopping from the vendors on the street.

Of the 3 red-light areas, patpong doubles as a tourist trap with cheap tshirts and watches for sale, but there are a couple regulars bars there where you can sit and listen to the band and laugh at the crowds filing by.

There are high-end clubs and restaurants galore, but also wander the streets and eat from the street vendors. There are several top of building bars that provide great views of the city with happy hour.

Go to the Chatuchak weekend market. Its quite the spectacle, particularly the pet section.

Its a 2 hour trip down to Pattaya, which is a beach town and major party scene. Theres regular bus service or you can even taxi down.

Other beach areas in the south are longer trip, but Air Asia and NOK Air offer pretty cheap regular flights to Phuket and other spots. I visited Phuket and its quite the scene, surprising that so many bars can be in such a small place.

Of course, if you are getting on a plane, I highly recommend jumping over to Siem Reap in Cambodia and visiting Angkor Wat and the surrounding temples. Truly amazing and very different from what you typically see in Thailand. The people in Cambodia are very friendly.

Koh Chang in the gulf of Thailand. I have been there 2 times. Get a Bungalow on the beach. You wade out into the water and when you turn around you will see a spectacular view of coconut trees and mountains. In the evening the beach transforms into some fine dining - many restaurants and great thai food served right on the beach. Sabai Bar is there for some great music and dancing too. I have some pics of Koh Chang but i do not know how to attach them. I would be happy to email them to you if you like. My email is dracos2004@yahoo.com. Hope you have a great time. Wish I was going too.

I went to LOS with my second wife and did the sightseeing thing again but from previous experience I knew that if I went on the organised coach tours that half the time would be wasted visiting some factory with a shop where the courier/guide would get nice kickbacls. So I rented a Limo from the hotel. We travelled much faster than by coach and set down right outside the attraction. So we did Grand Palace, Wat Po and the Golden Buddha all in a morning. It cost more than an individual trip but overall it came in cheaper and far more comfortable.

good advice SMF, dont go on organised tours, they are tourist trap rip offs with commisions for the people taking you there like a jewelery factory , where they sell inferior quality at sky high prices, was in Koh Samui in March very nice and chilled as there were fewer people there due to the recession. Lots of ladyboys around too!! hua hin is nicce with a big empty beach, count on some rain though Natasha as it is that season now.

"If it swims we have it" at 89 Sukhumvit Soi 34, Phrom Phong Skytrain stop, is well worth a visit, just for its novelty.
You shop in a supermarket style and load Fish, vegetables and spices, then agree with an assigned chef just how to prepare it.

some interesting comments here re things to do in my favorite country.

if you're feeling a bit more adventurous, maybe add in a float down the mekong river, or visit the river kwai (yeah, *that* movie). if you're into temples i'd put chiang mai near the top of any list.

but just in case you're considering a visit to the beautiful koh (island) samui -- one of my favorite spots -- you should be aware despite a couple posters' comments, i'd hardly call an hour's flight (or 12 hours on a bus/train/ferry) "close" to bangkok.

if you're looking for 'close' to bangkok, the beach towns of hua hin (relatively mellow and beautiful) and pattaya (wild and crazy) are within a couple hours' drive (no flying required), and just off the coast from pattaya you can daytrip to koh larn (and stare at the windfarm in the middle of the hillside jungle) or an easy over night to ko samet (van and ferry) and eat sitting literally on the sand at any of a dozen restaurants.

and while in bangkok, no doubt you'll visit the week-end market at chatuchak. a must-do.

enjoy.
and good luck.

good stuff thaibound

What gave me problems was my wife (gg), when we were taken from BKK to Hua Hin, The courier asked if it was OK to stop at a Roadhouse for the driver to get a big dose of caffeine because he was already at 25hours on the road!

On the other hand we had a gang in LOS for three months, building radar domes, they found many "interesting" locations in remote areas! One was a bar with glass ceilings, girls there were so poor, they could not afford panties. Our guys volunteered to go back free of pay...........
