Has to be Lesnar all the way for me !

you would say something like that... outcome NOT withstanding that fight should have been stopped with 2:30 left in the first round... Lesner was taking a tremendous beating... 10 out 10 i would bet on Carwin to win that same exchange... Lesner kept stating how these are two "completely different levels of athleticism"... very very true... Carwin is the much better athelete...!!
I don't know if the fight should have been fight or not. Lesnar was getting beat, but it wasn't like he was defending himself. True, he was blocking the shots, but he was moving around even when he was blocking. Now it would be different if his body went limp or he turned his head from the punches.
Carwin should work on his cardio. The upside to his record is that he knocked out all his opponents in the 1st round. The downside is that he never been to the 2nd round. He tired himself out way to quickly, but trying to put Lesnar away. He made himself tired and opened himself to a takedown. Nobody was expecting Lesnar to attempt a submission and he surprised everyone.
Kudos to Lesnar for keeping a cool head and even being humble after the fight. He shook Shane's hand and you could tell the crowd was finally cheering for Lesnar instead of boos that he normally gets.
Of course, I thought Carwin was going to win. I knew it was going to be over in the second round, but I thought Carwin would knock him out.

you would say something like that...
eh ????????
That was a very close call, the ref blatanly gave Lesnar a chance but only 2 of Carwins punches/elbows landed & the rest Lesnar was moving around under & didn't look finished, under pressure yes.
Carwin was exhausted come the 2nd and he payed the price.
Lesnar vs Velasquez will be awesome !

bte-
I guess I'm more upset with Carwin then anything else... no doubt Lesner is a monster... but have you ever seen a more UNCOMFORTABLE fighter on his feet after getting punched in the face... and on the hand, how poised did Carwin look... without a doubt the man will be back with greatly improved ground defense... on the other hand... Vasquez is no spring chicken... heavy weights are getting stacked... ohhhh Fedor, why dont you come to UFC and show these ladies how to rock n' roll!!!

!!!this!!!
Lesnar and Velasquez will be a straight up wrestling match. Lesnar will make quick work of Cain. I am looking forward to Lesnar vs Carwin II. Lesnar was getting owned on the feet and I bet Carwin will come back stronger than ever.

first leben is a badass, and brock showed he's all talk when taking and throwing punches standing, what a great bunch of fights though
Yeah, Brock was pretty much all talk on the standup, but he showed that he has a chin made of titanium. I don't know if you noticed, but at one point during the match when Brock threw a punch. Shane pushed that punch aside and landed a nice hit on Lesnar.
A lot of people are kind of peeved that Lesnar won. They believe that the fight should have been stopped. I was noticing during the fight the ref kept saying over and over "Brock defend yourself or I am going to stop the fight." It seems like the ref gave Brock too many chances to recover. Once the ref said it once or maybe twice, then after that he should have stopped the fight. Shane probably thought he was winning so was expelling more energy to finish Lesnar than he normally would.

easy explanation... D. White most probably said... "if you like you job and wish to stay in the UFC, you dont the fight unless someones head rolls off their shoulders"... and THATS why the fight wasn't stopped... personally I dont feel Cain will be a push over... the time of underestimating Lesner is long gone... fighters know hes real, strong and backed by White... so they're adapting

nah... I disagree... hes a spectacle yes but not nearly the next coming of Royce!
I don't think you can compare Brock Lesnar to Royce Gracie. Royce Gracie and his family bought BJJ to the US and was a pioneer to the sport of MMA alongside his family. Almost every MMA fighter in some way shape or form is connected to the Gracie clan.
Brock Lesnar on the other hand represents MMA because he is bringing it to the fore front. Don't know if you noticed but on Monday, but almost every show on ESPN was talking about UFC 116. From Sports Center to Pardon the Interruption, they were clamouring about the Lesnar and Carwin fight. Although I believe that ESPN should recognize that MMA is a legitimate sport and have a daily show devoted to it or something like that. They have MMA Live but that comes on once a week if that. I mean ESPN shows darts and poker but no MMA programming.

why so much emphasis on ESPN? Wrestlemainia 24 got HUGE coverage when Floyd money too part with the Big Show... In other words, they cover whats relevant... PPV buys have been steady since before Lesner... fact is, with or with out him this sport has been the #1 growing sport in the US for 3 years straight. Lets see if the next Lesner fight makes ESPN... probably not...
fyi: if I'm not mistaken... Royce started the UFC... I may be wrong, but I dont think so...
It wasn't Royce, but it was his brother Rorion alongside Art Davie who were responsible for early creation of UFC. Royce did compete in UFC 1 though. MMA is the fastest growing sport in the world. I do not think nobody will dispute that.
Since Lesnar is considered the "top heavyweight in the world" (I don't really like that title) then all the attention is placed on him. He is seen by many (non MMA fans) as the face of MMA and thus all the attention is placed upon him. Almost every sports show on Monday on ESPN mentioned something about the Lesnar vs. Carwin fight. They didn't even mention the other fights.
Hopefully in the next few years that sport shows will be talking about MMA the same way they talk about football instead of only talking about it when something big happens.

wishful thinking but I seriously doubt that will ever happen... the sport has to have a much larger draw for that to happen... WWE sells out 25-45k arenas on a weekly basis AND the smoke all prime time ratings and you never hear anything about them UNLESS its mainia time... not a sport maybe, but its about grandeur and attention... MLS barely gets mentioned during a NON-world cup year... this sport is best in the shadows where us faithful can love to love it!!!
WWE used to be big in the ratings, but they haven't really made an impact lately. Their only draw is PPVs. Especially during Wrestlemania, they sell more PPVs than the UFC I think. Also wrestling fans are now becoming MMA fans.
I think as more states legalize and sanction MMA that MMA will finally be recognized as a legitmate sport instead of as "bloodsport." FSSW broadcast MMA at times. They normally broadcast M1 (which is going out of business due to Fedor losing a couple of weeks ago) and K1, but ESPN needs to jump on the bandwagon and know that MMA is fastest growing sport in the world.
MLS is very tricky in America, because probably the majority of Americans do not care about soccer (or football). They think its too long and they just don't understand it. Just last week or maybe it was a couple of weeks ago, I heard on ESPN radio, Colin Cowherd talking about soccer and how he doesn't understand it. I think soccer has a long way to go for Americans to be interested in it. The only way Americans will be interested in it if America wins the World Cup. If America wins, then soccer will be huge, until that time, soccer will only be something that Americas care about during the World Cup. I watched the last World Cup when Italy won, but it was only because I was living there at the time.

way wrong... RAW is a ratings monster!!! kills anything and everything on Monday night... by a long shot... once a month they put on a PPV which rakes amazing buys for a soap opera... and now that smackdown is leaving USA to a full HD network, they'll have a steady Neilson bump.
lil insider info... Shane McMahon left WWE to work more closely with Strikeforce/UFC/K9/K1/WEC and other mma brands... hmmmmmm, not to mention all the pro-wrestler turned mma fighters with many more to follow!!
my point... its best kept where it is right now... just under the top 4 sports in America!

You're right. I looked at the ratings of WWE and you are right. I knew Shane left the WWE and there was talk of him joining the UFC, but I never heard anything else about it. I knew he met with Dana though.
I think MMA has the potential to rise to stardom that boxing did in the 90s. If it does then it will be great for the sport. Also I heard that Batista is going MMA and signed with Strikeforce. Brock wished him good luck, and he said that Batista wouldn't want to fight him.

Batista, the guy can't wrestle, hows hE going to survive in MMA ?
He probably going to rely on his strength and physique. Although I am not sure if he used to be a college wrestler, or he might have some other martial arts background such as judo or karate.

Dave is a gorilla... aside from being 6'6'' and 250-280lbs depending on the month. he also has serious striking abilities... he hired some of the best bjj and wrestling coaches and has been working diligently to better his mat game... with that said... he has struck a deal with SF for 2-3 fights... first one being with ex-wrestler Bobby Lashly... should make for a very interesting fight, kind of a trial by fire if you ask me...
(ps... thanks for checking on the ratings)

Who knows that Batista brings to the table. Hopefully he won't get pummel, but I hope he wins his first match. If he doesn't then that just embarassing.
Also, its no problem on the thanks dude. I was wrong and I owned up to it. Although I still believe that wrestling is on the decline, but thats just my opinion.

WWE has never been stronger, ticket sales are huge, merch is a monster... over 450pcs a day through dot com, WWE films is a cash cow, WWE on demand is growing market value by the day and soon WWE will have its own network!!! Summer Slam is now a week long event in LA and Wrestlemainia 28 is going to be insane in... ATL here we come
WWE films are cash cows? Say what, LoL...man those films are horrible. The last WWE movie that I could remember being somewhat decent was The Condemned with Stone Cold.

oh, no doubt about that... the movies blow!!! but it cost 8million to create "See no Evil" and its grossed over 18million worldwide... THATS the definition of a "cash cow"!! Big Show has a feature to be released in Oct or Nov... should be a good income boost!!

What's the movie called? I noticed most wrestlers who try to be actors suck at it. Although there are exceptions such as Hulk Hogan, The Rock, and Stone Cold. Oh, and also Jesse Ventura. He was great in Predator, until he got killed.

Knuckle Head... I think Show will do great... he's had a few shots at the acting games and has done rather well... recently he made a guest star roll in Royal Pains... this new film is a slap stick comedy geared towards youth!
Hopefully it will be good, but given the track record of WWE films, I won't hold my breath. You going to watch UFC 117 with Sonnen vs. Silva? I'm hoping Sonnen takes it.

Actually, I'm boycotting all Silva fights... If buys are down Dana will take note and have to make a serious call... so to answer your question... NO, I willnot be watching it... though the outcome is very simple... Silva wins easily!

:lol:Oi guys bad form I've not started a 117 thread yet, tut tut:grin:
Hope Silva gets his ass handed to him, doubt it tho, he's just too good. Tough call for Dana.
I just don't see Batista do anything what so ever, never seen any graceful movement from him or any indication of possible skill to make me feel he will make it.
I am hoping Sonnen will take it. I like Silva, and he is good, but perhaps he is too good for his own good. He toys with opponents, case in point, his fight with Maia. He used to come in and fight and finish opponents quick.
Hopefully Sonnen's wrestling will be just the test that Silva needs.
Also, I think that Batista will have wins under his belt. I don't think he is going to be underdefeated, because he is not that experience. As I said, I don't know his martial arts background. I think its a bad idea having him go up against Lashley. At least give him Tank Abbott...LoL...if he still fights that is.

From what I've read around the net, doesn't sound like he's had any martial arts background.
Tho talking to my Mrs (who is Filipino), he is very well connected with a lot of famous fighters over there, Manny Pacquiao to name one.
I hope his career change is not cash & profile motivated, I hope he's motivated by the love of the sport.
Perhaps Batista is training in Muay Thai perhaps? I don't know, as like you, I hope he is not doing this for money or thinking he could be the next Brock Lesnar. I hope he is doing this for the sport and wants pure and real competition.
One advantage that he has over other MMA fighters, is that he can take bumps or falls.
But really, I would think any pro wrestler who comes to MMA would at least have an amateur wrestling background. I mean something, more and more fighters now have at least a base in wrestling or boxing or something like that. Hell even if his base was kung-fu, he would have more of an advantage now then he does.
Expect him to lose his first fight to Lashley. He will win his next couple of fights. I don't see him being a force in MMA. Unless Strikeforce is trying to promote him and bill him as the next Brock Lesnar.
