Wow, what a unique topic, Angela! I love both of those. Let's see, a few more:
balsam
strawberry
jasmine
champa (an Indian flower)
P.S. Angela, I finally bought the Arcade Fire, Funeral. Thank you for recommending them to me--great band, great album! Ciao!

Ecstatic, do you use nag champa incense? It's like sweet nectar.

I love that new car smell
or the smell of a leather band on a watch for the 1st time
I especially love the smell of the mountain air upstate
but most of all.....................I love the smell of a bunch of women @ Bally's around 8pm after they've been on the treadmill or cycle or doing pilates for a few hours

Hmmm..I love scents! Like: Vanilla, Ylang-ylang, Rosemary, Lavander etc.. Love lighting scented candles or incense while bubble bathing. Scents are therapeutic!;)

The smell of new leather, scented oils, fresh cut grass, and bacon frying during a New Hampshire spring morning.
*Sigh*
I'm having memories. :(

Yeah, that album is fantastic. I believe I have a video of David Byrne coming out at one of their shows and playing a Talking Heads song with them.
I really need to get the lowdown on what some of the hottest music this year has been so far.
Sounds like it's about time for another music topic! I've been listening to a lot of cool new stuff, but one of the best and newest to me is Imogen Heap: Speak for Yourself and with the band details, frou frou. Great stuff!
If you like Arcade Fire you might want to give a listen to a band called Metric out of Toronto. Check out the song Dead Disco off the Old World Underground Where Are You? CD, great stuff.

I used to burn it all the time! But these days my allergies are too intense, and even though I'm not allergic to the incense, the smoke bothers my sinuses, so I don't often burn it. I will sometimes put a drop of essential oil on a hot light bulb though: intense fragrance, no smoke.

Thanks for the recommendation! Never heard of them. I'm always looking to try out new music. If you look past the mega sellers (the Britneys and all), I think this is one of the most creative periods in "pop" music since the mid to late 60s--and even some of the huge sellers are quite good (Alicia Keyes, India.Aire, Shakira for example).

I live in a 100 acre orange grove.....wish it was mine. Sometimes in the Spring, it knocks you over when you walk the dogs. Also, I planted some Cirrus cactus years ago. It only blooms once a year It'll knock your dick in the dirt, when it does. You can literally, "smell it for miles".

I've once smelled sneakers of a girl she just wore and the smell was very pleasant and I wish I've had done it more :D i did it because i had read foot fetish stories of girls making you smell their sweaty feet which were very exiting to me ;) and ofcourse some girls have really pleasant smell which nothing can beat.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and start with kitchen smells...
garlic or shallots hitting a hot pan
chicken or veal stock simmering on the oven
the smell of lamb on a grill
the smell of Thanksgiving turkey in the oven!!
the smell of a freshly cut Christmas tree
and I will agree with the aforementioned...
the ocean, a wood fire, mountain air, and freshly cut grass...
and I don't know if you northern folks have honeysuckle growing in the summer...
oh man...what a smell

Good point about kitchen scents, Chefmike. As a gourmet cook myself (though it's been some 25 years or more since I've cooked professionally--decided restaurant trade wasn't for me), I have many favorite cooking fragrances as well. For instance, fresh rosemary and blood orange-infused olive oil. A coconut curry with ginger, galanga, and orange habanero. Cardomon and chocolate. Scalloped potatoes with rosemary and cheddar. Hmm, I'm getting hungry!

very nice...sounds like you grow your own herbs, also...not that they aren't available at your favorite market, nowadays...I have decided to brine my turkey before roasting this year...haven't tried it on turkey yet, but it get's rave reviews...nothing like thinking about favorite smells to get you nostalgic for holidays past...I should have included the smell of freshly torn basil...

Yes, I grow some of my own herbs and chilies. Nothing beats fresh herbs taken from the plants on the deck moments before they're added to the pot or skillet. I used to garden extensively--French intensive, working the soil 9 inches deep, companion planting, all of that--but after I hurt my back (a big reason for not working kitchens, which as you know can be very hard on the back), I gave up gardening and now just do window boxes of herbs and peppers. Had great rosemary, thyme and sage this year.
Let me know how the turkey turns out! I've never brined my own.
