Some of you need to quit the belly aching. In 51 years the Yankees have 9 WS. Yea, they are a powerhouse, but they hardly "own" the series.

1958 New York Yankees

2 year gap

1961 New York Yankees
1962 New York Yankees

14 year gap

1977 New York Yankees

19 year gap

1996 New York Yankees
1998 New York Yankees

2000 New York Yankees

Latin players were never banned from the major leagues. Until 1947, blacks were excluded from ALL major league teams, not just the Yankees. Anyways, the NY Yankees do not control the game.

Waaaah Waaaah Waaah to all the Yankee haters. If your team spent the money to win the World Series you people wouldn't be saying shit! Salary cap this and 200 mil payroll that. It's not the Yankees fault other teams suck, don't make money, and can't afford better players. Shit the Yanks even have to give other teams money in revenue sharing to help them. Quit your bitching and deal with it. It's the way the WORLD works. You have money you buy nice things and live a happy life. That's what the Yankees do!

players still have to play at any level, money can not throw a pitch or hit a ball, it is pure talent , the other teams have just the same money if not more. look at the owners of over half of mlb teams, very rich.

Compare that to Pittsburgh, with a base of about 2 million. This is always the retort of the yankee fan and its wrong. Face it, your a fan of an organization that believes in purchasing championships. The yankees are a trick. They pay for it without hesitating. No better than they guy that pays for sex. see lots of moneyThis means absolutely nothing. All this tells is how much the team was bought for. It doesnt say anything about what the yearly revenue of the team is. And clearly, just from those numbers, no team can afford to spend 420 million dollars in one off season like the yankees did. SO YES YANKEE FAN, YOU ARE WRONG ABOUT THE MONEY OTHER TEAMS HAVE TO SPEND.

Of the 2009 rosters, the Yankees had 13 of 25 players as "homegrown talent" (e.g. players who were drafted and/or came up through the minor league system).

The Phillies? They had 9 of 25 players.

Game, set, match.

Not quite. There is another function of a farm system and that is to provide trade fodder to acquire ML talent. The Phillies only have 8 free agent signings on their roster, the most notable of which are Ibanez, Werth & Feliz. Meanwhile, the Yankees have 6, all of whom are notable (and expensive). Damon, Burnett, Pettite, Matsui, Sabathia & Texteira. So that's their top 3 starters and 3 everyday hitters which is a far cry from what the Phillies signed.

No one has said the Phillies (among others the Red Sox and even the Cubs) are innocent here... It's just the Yankees are #1 on the "with the money they spend they should win" list.

How would you like to be a Cleveland fan? Both first game starters were their players they traded away because they knew they couldn't afford them long-term.

baseball is for old boring faggots. On top of that its tainted with teams like the jankees spending twice more than anyone else. Just cause you paid your way to the top doesnt mean your the best. Letting teams spend twice and getting any player they want takes competetive fairness of the game away.

On top of that there are too many spanish people in baseball and I dont consider spanish people to better athletes than african americans. I watch sports to see great athletes do great things and you dont get that in baseball.

No, but it DID level the playing field. Smaller-market NBA teams have a better chance at making the championship series. As a nearly-lifelong Miami Heat fan, I can tell you right now that they never would have been able to win in 2006 if they hadn't been able to obtain O'Neal, and they wouldn't have made it to the finals without him. Just no way. There's no question the salary cap made that possible.

Well, there are many teams in the NBA with 0 chance of winning this year or even 5 years down the road. Even this year, there are only 5 teams with a realistic shot of winning the title : Boston, Cleveland, Orlando, San Antonio and the Lakers.

In the last 10 years, only 5 teams have won NBA titles. In baseball, there have been 8 different teams winning it all. In the last 20 years, only 2 more teams win for a total of 7 NBA Champions. In baseball, there are a total of 13 teams who have won the World Series in that same time span, almost twice as many.

To me, that says that there's a much more wide open race to winning it all in baseball than there is in basketball. Just in case you were wondering, the NFL had 7 champions in the last 10 years and 12 in 20 years.

Perhaps, perhaps not. We could go for days on who has a shot and why, and all of it would be based on opinion. What I'm saying is that, based on money alone, each NBA team has a better shot at winning championships by buying talent because no one can go above the cap.

In the last 10 years, only 5 teams have won NBA titles. In baseball, there have been 8 different teams winning it all. In the last 20 years, only 2 more teams win for a total of 7 NBA Champions. I'm not arguing that, I'm just saying the chances are greater. Just because the chances differ between the two leagues doesn't mean the reality of the situation is going to go one way or another. I'd just like to make the opportunity for other teams to build themselves a little more fair, that's all.

And I know, this goes in direct opposition to my previously mentioned conservative political stance, but we're talking sports, not politics :D

How is it fair that Cleveland will go back to being an also ran once LeBron signs with the Knicks? The NBA has the softest cap of all the major leagues too and teams routinely go way over the cap all the time.

A salary cap has absolutely nothing to do with leveling the playing field or making it "fair". It's primary function is to limit spending on players by capping the amount of money paid to them in salary. If you ever bothered to check, you'd find out that the NBA teams who spend the most are the ones going to the playoffs and winning championships. But since you choose to ignore the facts I already gave you, I'm not going to do waste my time looking them up.
