So instead of talking to their kids about what Obama has to say and making sure they understand what is being said, some parents, like the Heath care town hallers, just disregard the entire discussion by not participating.

Retards. He's the president of the country. He's got a right to speak to whoever he wants to. Pull your Republican heads out of your asses. God forbid your children listen to someone INTELLIGENT instead of the usual hateful, racist, bullshit conservative fearmongering they get brought up with and fucked up with.

He is the President of the United States; however, he does have a party affiliation. If former President W. Bush was giving the speech, I am sure that some people would be suspicious of the speech.

Here’s the horrible indoctrination Obama’s gonna lay on your innocent children: stay in school, study hard and graduate because a graduation certificate increases your chances of finding job and achieving success in life, however you measure it __ end of message. It’s the same message that was delivered to students by many presidents past, republicans as well as democrats. Just to name two: George W. Bush gave a nationwide address to students in 1991, Reagan did a Q/A with students at the White House that was televised and viewed live in schools across the nation.

So let’s count all the fears and the lies that have so far been promulgated against Obama: he’s a Muslim, he’s a socialist, he’s a fascist, he’s an illegal alien, he going to take away your guns and now he’s going to brainwash your children. It doesn’t give you a lot of faith in the sanity or the good will of the right wing, especially when they show up armed at presidential appearances and make jokes about issuing licenses for hunting the president. Listen up right wing American: your president is a democrat who is just barely left of center. Oh, and he’s black. Live with it!

Both sides have always had their wing nuts, but I have never seen the level of organized hate I see today. Our President could come out saying he was going to cut taxes for business and the wealth today and tomorrow I'd hear how that was just a secret plot to brainwash CEOs.

There is plenty of thins he has done that are questionable, plenty of actual policies to oppose, just stop making shit up.

On the money.

I have never seen so much hatred directed at a president so early into his term. Even if you don't agree with his policies, at least give the guy a fair chance. All this pent- up rage from the fringe right-wingers is almost hilarious. Like Trish pointed out, he can't change his skin color so you might as well deal with it. I know it's hard.

Ron Paul is just as bad.

You can't call yourself a libertarian by using the age-old "states' rights" card. If something is unethical for the government to do, it is unethical for ANY government (even state governments) to do.

Something doesn't become magically wrong just because the feds are doing it. If it is wrong, it would be just as wrong if committed by a local or state government.

His answer to just "let the states decide" for just about everything, isn't an answer at all... its "I want to be the one in charge, so that I can inject myself into your daily lives... not these other people in DC"

Now Ross & Admiral Stockdale on the other hand, I do think they would have made for an excellent administration.

Yea really? Makes you wonder who else would be a contender for being considered the fastest-loathed president. LBJ... maybe?

But the interesting thing is it seems the bulk of the people who hate him with such a passion are conservatives. It seems that the left isn't so much hating him despite the long list of campaign promises he either hasn't delivered on... or has done total 180's on.

I.e. taking Bush's stance on don't ask & the defense of marriage act, increasing the amount of troops in Afghanistan, telling congress to tax peoples' health care benefits. Etc.

He made a lot of promises going into this, and he's not going to be able to deliver on all (or perhaps even most) of them, but that seems to play no role whatsoever in why people are disliking him so much.

They're not compulsory. They're only implimented at the border crossings to speed up the traffic through the express lines. They cost extra & don't replace your passport. The people who do business along the borders or commute insisted on it when the new rule was put in that says you have to have a passport to get home.

There's still no rule that says Americans have to carry ID in America.

Well it happened. School kids were exposed to indoctrination. Not indoctrination into the socialist politik of the extreme left, but religious indoctrination at the hands of their school athletic coach. Turns out that Brekenridge County Schools in Kentucky wouldn't let their students listen to the Obama speech without a note from their parents. But they were allowed to taken on a school bus to be Baptized without parental permission.

It seems to me that the longer Obama is in office the more the right wing radicals are giving Obama a lot of shit. There have been other presidents that have talked to our kids, and there was not much of an uproar.
I could be wrong, but it almost seems like there is a lot of racism on the right. It is almost as though what the Rush Limbaugh's of the world are saying is "We don't want a nigger for president and we will do whatever it takes to get the nigger out of office".
In my opinion, any president can make a speech to kids in our schools. After all, the schools are run by the government and the president is the president. If you dont want your child to hear what the president has to say, you can always pull your kid out of school for the day, or better yet, you can explain to your child the reasons that you disagree with what the president said in his speach. But I guess that would require a little effort on the part of parents and that might be asking just a little too much.

Sorry but the real lunatics are politicians who are murdering millions of people such as bush jr. In fact the count was in recently and its over 1 million dead in iraq because of bush jr's phony corporate war. clinton, bush sr and reagan are also criminals of war. The corporate politicians have 1 goal and that is to bow before their corporate masters. These clowns are doing nothing for the average american and never will do anything. Obama is a hand picked puppet and at night they hang him up in the closet and take out the batteries.

Obama is just following the same policies as bush jr and that is a mere spokesman for wallstreet, corporate amercia and the murderous pharmicutical industry.

Nader or Paul would be a major improvement in every way compared to this horrible corporate govt right now.

Unbelievable. I hate organized religion so much. "Let's go down the river and splash water on our heads.....then the big imaginary man will let us into an imaginary cloudy city". Fuck....you might as well replace Jesus with Barney the Dinosaur. It'd get you the same result.

Unfortunately i don't think any organized religion is good. I think personal belief is fine. If you wish to believe that an Octopus came from an asteroid in space and split into 2 humanoids that created our species (totally random bizarre thought) then by all means...fill your boots. But to teach other people things that have no basis in fact is misleading....and a waste of financial and human resources.

Sorry...just my 2 cents. Fuck religion. It's a human creation. Period.

At what point would you consider the extremists to be "typical" of an organized religion?

The problem with using the word extremist, is it implies a group of people are fringe followers of a religion- and therefore an abnormality in the grand scheme of things.

Yet this doesn't hold, there are religious sects where the "extremists" ARE "typical" of the religious sect (think William Jennings Bryan and his supporters); where those who are not "extremists" are in the minority.

I say "sect" for a reason, I think people try to downplay how radical some religions are by trying to group them together under broader umbrella terms. I.e. the people who talk about tolerance using the word "christian" instead of "southern baptist" (I am just using that one as an example, there are a great many christian sects).... or worse "monotheistic" Even Catholicism is perhaps too vague of a label in comparing differing catholic sects (think about it; considering opus dei and the Jesuits the same thing doesn't seem to be entirely sound when talking about philosophical viewpoints)

For the transcript of the speech:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/MediaResources/PreparedSchoolRemarks/

Then I ran across this:
This is some scary shit! If you read it in a mirror and transpose every third word to a Kenyan dialect,
it says Support the World Marxist Revolution and Don't listen to your teachers or Parents, listen to only ME!!

I tried it, but all I got was "I buried Paul!"
I'm thinking maybe I should try using a Barbieyan dialect.

Jesus was perhaps the world's most effective Humanist. I'm surprised you don't take the time to consider that.

The folks who took their kids out of school to avoid Obama's speech had it only half right. They needed to take their kids out of school so their dumb asses could sit in the chairs and perhaps learn something.
