I ran one of those, the 2.0TDi and regularly returned 54 imp MPG! the next cheapest thing is to cycle from A to B! was a quick car too, but developed a rough idle that the dealer, nor VW themselves could fix. so i parked it in a hole in the road and smashed the back window to escape. i've never looked back since.

sinkholes can happen anywhere, wasn't there one that swallowed an entire 18wheeler on 90 in NY a couple years ago?
