I was listening to the radio the other night about these guys who fought in WW1. They had two options, go over the top, or get shot dead by your own officers.
In the Battle of the Somme, The battle is best remembered for its first day, 1 July 1916, on which the British suffered 57,470 casualties, including 19,240 dead.
errata: that's 19,240 killed in one day, not the whole war. In just one day. 1 July 1916. Holy shit
