Does anyone else find this absolutely absurd?

They have sucked the nerd out of SciFi channel over the years. But this is ridiculous...

I can almost see them renaming Comedy Central, "The LOL Channel."

Yeah, I agree the new name sucks. Someone told me the channel wanted a copyrightable name and "SciFi" is not a copyrightable abbreviation. I'm too lazy to actually run this story down, so can anyone confirm it?

Yup, that is the stupidest thing I've heard of. SciFi is short for "Science Fiction". WTF is SyFy supposed to mean?

I don't know, I may not like it, but as a branding issue I understand it may have been necessary to change it to something else. We have a tendency to slap some pretty negative terms on stuff without a clue why something is happening. Are you really going to have trouble understanding what SyFy is standing in for?

I'd be more upset if they dropped their cool little identification clips. Love those little transformation clips to death.

I think it's fine. I thought it was meant to be more weird rather than having the proper abbreviation. If they just wanted a new name they probably could've had something better.

well on the tv guid thing i always got scifi channel mixed up with the sci(science) channel. maybe they wanted to differentiate somehow

I heard they wanted to go a new direction, not sure as to what direction that is since they still sport the same shows. I know they are glorifying warehouse 13 but it looks like the same ole 1-2 season job they are known for, so......

I noticed this the other day whilst flipping channels. I thought it was a gag, like when Adult Swim showed that crazy movie on April Fools day.
