I also kind of consider "I am Legend" based on a Vampire theme, don't you think?http://www.virginmedia.com/images/i-am-legend.jpg

You can download a bunch using bittorrents and if you have a newer computer and a HD TV you can get a HDMI cable and watch them on your TV

I'll also agree that you can't go wrong with any Hammer/ Christopher Lee vampire movie. George Romero's Martin was also a unique film that fucked with the vampire genre.

Twilight was just lame.

Without a doubt Let the Right One in. I've never seen a vampire movie that even remotely compares (in my mind).

That movie broke my heart.

Watching Let the Right One in was like reading Octavia Butler's Fledgling, it just gave me a completely different respect for the genre of Vampire lore.

It's hard to beat Blade, and the movie has to get bonus pts for having him drive a 68 Charger (its a 68, watch for the taillights in the... 1 scene that show them clear enough to see).

A lot of crappy Vampire movies have been released, and some are just plainly dull and bear no originality (sorry), namely Queen of the Damned -although the soundtrack is fantastic- and that teeny sugar coated one, Twilight.

Forsaken, I had heard a lot of good stuff about it, and I forgot to actually go and see it. Gonna download this right away.

Queen of the Damned changed alot from the book. Supposedly The Tale of the Body Thief is gonna be made one day. I haven't read those books in years. I liked 30 days of night , and in Lost Boys 2 they could have made it clearer that the brother and sister protagonists were Michael and Stars children.

Without Kristy there would have been no Sarah.

Cast: Kristy Swanson, Donald Sutherland, Paul (Pee Wee Herman) Reubens, Rutger Hauer, Luke Perry, Hilary Swank, David Arquette, Ricki Lake, Ben Affleck et al.

PS: The owners of the Buffy brandname are planning a revamp (excuse pun) of the Buffy franchise with all new cast, (trying to cash in on Twilight's succe$$).

Let the Right One In

Now why would this vampire movie be popular on HA?

"Oskar takes Eli to a candy store and offers her a piece. At first, she refuses; then she tries one. Oskar finds her heaving on the sidewalk around the corner. He hugs her.

Eli asks him whether or not he would still like her if she wasn't a girl.

"I guess so," Oskar replies, not quite understanding what Eli is asking.

...later...

Eli crawls into bed with him, and Oskar notices that she doesn't have any clothes on. He asks her whether she'd like to go steady with him, and Eli replies "I'm not a girl." That doesn't seem to bother Oskar, so they decide to go steady.

Hmm Hmmm.

Dash-dot-dash, dot-dot, dot-dot-dot, dot-dot-dot.

Who ever it is the would have to literally look like an anmie character much like Gianna in "Blood: the Last Vampire"

which i may as well add to the list both anime and live action.

VHD is just pure bad ass.. when it comes to vampires.. no live action movie can hold a candle to it (pardon the candle pun) lol (inside joke if you seen it)

VHD Bloodlust was just as good IMO.

Hellsing would be great to have adapted to a full length anime or live action even.

But as far as the guy playing D... he would have to be very feminine in appearance. But be able to have a deep voice and throw a good ass whippin.

i was disappointed in BLoodlust because D" and the opposing Dhampir
( official name for half vampire/half human) never got into a physical
scuffle. it seemed more geared towards art and dialogue. They did have
new, interesting creatures in Bloodlust.

A Hellsing live action might be confused with Huge Jackman's Van Helsing ( which i really liked a lot BTW !!)
For some reason i'm thinking the director of the Vampire Hunter D
movie would change D"s normally quiet demeanor, and get him in
more of a speaking, communicational role.
i just hope he doesn't mess up and exclude D"s talking Left-hand.
Left-hand will only add more appeal, dark humor to D"'s character.

Studio producers are always on the hunt for the public vibe,(blogs, forum boards) to see what the superhero fan base is wanting on the big screen.

Bigger the fanbase, bigger the interest, the bigger the box office.
All the comic superheroes, TV heroes are going to be brought to live action. The box office trend and viewing audience is demanding it.
G.I. Joe will soon follow Transformers, while Thor, Captain America,
Deadpool and Green Lantern are in the making. while Voltron, Magneto,
the Flash, Thundercats are in the " project" modes.
And that's not including upcoming Iron Man 2, and Spiderman 4 & 5.

Not only Vampire Hunter D, but the legendary anime NINJA SCROLL

As far as my all time favorite, I think it would be Interview with a Vampire, but the vampire movie I remember the most that hasn't yet been mentioned is Embrace the Vampire. Meet the Hammiltons , You think it's one kind of movie but it has a surprise twist at the end ... but since i posted about it here then you know the twist ... they are vampires.

is it unusual and unique like " THE ADDICTION " with Lili Taylor, Christopher Walken, Annabella Sciorra ?
Black and white, poetic and analystic, and no fangs.
No highwire -flying or any vamp bursting into flames, but
it's interesting in it's own way.

Another Vampire that was unique was " TO DIE FOR "
( and no it's not the Nicole Kidman version) Two vampire blood brothers
fighting over the same girl and going one-on-one.
Has one good " jump-scare" scene in it.

Bram Stokers, 1990's version with Keanu Reeves. "Children of the niiiight. What sweet music they make".

Children of the Night. i remember that one- with Karen Black in it. :twisted:I don't think this one had Karen Black in it, it starred Keanu Reeves and Anthony Hopkins.

Karen Black did however do a horror called Trilogy of Terror.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103957/

the vampire movie " Children of the Night" i was refering to DID indeed have Karen Black starring in it, and this is indeed the same Karen Black who did the Demon Doll episode in Trilogy of Terror.

i wasn't making reference to Reeves/Hopkins/Rider's Bram Stoker Dracula .....just Children of the Night.Ah, was it any good?

Not exactly a movie, but a TV series about vampires.

Just finished watching the pilot episode to The Vampire Diaries.

Bit undecided about it. The plot is about a teen girl who is romantically torn between two very different brothers, who just happen to be vampires. One still feeds while the other is determined to stop his brother from eating all the teens in the town they just moved to.

Not as good as True Blood. More romantic and seems to be targeted at teens. Cashing in on the success of Twilight.

One thing in its favour is the lead female, Nina Dobrev. She used to be in Degrassi: The Next Generation. She is now 20; she was born in Bulgaria, and kind of reminds me of Jordana Brewster, who was in The Faculty, another horror movie in my DVD collection.

Funny how they can't get teen actors to play teens. That is one of the things going for Skins, a British series about teens, and that actually stars teen actors.

PS: The girls here will like the two lead male actors, Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder. Pics below.

Skins is a good show.
I recently watched a show called "Being Human" it has a vampire , werewolf and a ghost living together.... ok there's more to it than that. It was interesting , like thinking you know where you belong in the world and one day learn you are different , then you have to find out what your place in the world is now and find acceptance.

Not a fan of vampire-themed movies or books here but "Interview with the Vampire" is pretty good due to the great plot, acting, atmosphere and Neil Jordanīs directing. Although I canīt stand Tom Cruise, I have to admit that his acting here was incredible. Itīs a Tom Cruise weīve never seen before and unfortunately after. But he seems to be a person that scares the shit out of you anyways.

Vampires are clearly a very hot ticket right now. (Twilight, True Blood, etc.) they have always really of a great interest ( Underworld, Blade,30 days of Night) but fans seem to be more demanding the vampire genre more than ever. whatever the fan demand is going to be, the sales, advertisement and production is going to be. If the box office gross and the TV ratings are gonna keep going so strong, these producers are going to keep giving the fans more and more of what they like/want to see.

it's the same with these family animations (Pixar, Disney) and the superhero comic book movies ( spiderman, xmen, hulk, iron man, batman, etc.)

Vampire plots can do well, I'm not sure I'd jump to them always having great interest. Blade 2 & 3 were not huge successes... the TV series was bad enough I wanted to go find rusty objects to use in detaching my retinas while blasting recordings of screaming, dying rabbits to keep myself from hearing the horrible lines. Figures that it was aired on spike, didn't they take over UPN? You know, that network that needed to be taken out back & shot for the Crow miniseries?

Then there was that painful experience known as Bloodrayne. Quite possibly the worst movie made in the last 15 years. Only they didn't stop there... no, after making one of the worst cinematic experiences in history they looked around and saw how poorly their similar low-budget, poorly-written scripts were doing (like ultraviolet, that movie no one bothered to see), contemplated halting the production of all their pending female-fronted superhero/comic scripts... and then released a sequel to bloodrayne.

One with an even worse cast.

At least the first one had some decent performers in the cast (what, Rodriguez from lost/resident evil, that other girl from resident evil/5th element whose name I can't remember, even meat loaf had a major support role). But why make the sequel at all? Were they just being sadistic? Did someone lose a bet? Was it "well, we just made history with our epic disaster, lets see if we can beat the record again!"? They couldn't have honestly expected anyone to watch it after the first one.

The fuc... they're making a 3rd one? Really?

I am starting to wonder if the industry is intentionally trying to sabotage its sales so that they can turn around and blame it on internet P2P users.

The whole "look, our sales are disappearing because of the evil internet! We need filters, bandwidth caps, pay-per-play systems!"

You know why their sales suck? Because so many of their products suck.

Edit, I looked it up and you were right about the cast of the first one. I was wrong insofar as Mila was not in it. That was a brainfart on my part.

Nosferatu, the original Murnau from 1922. One of the high points of German expressionism, and still very unsettling.

The actor who played the vampire, Max Schreck (=terror in German) has an entire mythology built up around him - he came from nowhere, and disappeared after the filming - which led to the amusing spoof Shadow of the Vampire about making the original, with Willem Dafoe and John Malkovich.

Yes, I've got it in a Herzog/Kinski box set which also includes Fitzcarraldo and Aguirre, Wrath of God. There should be a health warning not to watch them in succession - Kinski is clearly clinically deranged!

Caligari, The Golem, Metropolis, M, all wonderful German films no less dramatic or effective for being silent. There's a direct connection between them and the great Film Noir strain that developed in Hollywood in the 1940s with their use of shadows and light.

 Always been my favorite ,too.
The chilling original 1922, "Nosfaratu: A Symphony of Horror" directed by F.W. Murnau and the stunning 1978 remake by Werner Hertzog , with Klaus Kinski.
Also, there's so much fascinating cinema history wrapped up in the people associated with those two films!
For example ,Klaus Kinski's daughter ,actress Natasha Kinski was molested while underage by director Roman Polanski ,who was married to Sharon Tate ,who was pregnant with his baby when she was murdered by the Charlie Manson family...

The wurdalak sequence in Mario Bava's Black Sabbath is chilling.
I also have to agree that the original Nosferatu is magnificent.
Count Orlock's rat-like face is truly demonic.

How did they fill the teeming rat sequence in the ‘78 Nosferatu?

Two versions:

“[We used] 11,000 rats. They were snow white, so we had to dye them grey. Just a huge, huge venture. We had to transport them all across Europe from different countries: Germany, Austria, then into Holland… When the Dutch customs guys opened them, one of them fainted instantly. It took us 45 minutes until we brought him back!” (DVD commentary)
https://www.bfi.org.uk/news-opinion/news-bfi/features/herzogs-ark

Dutch behavioural biologist Maarten 't Hart, hired by Herzog for his expertise of laboratory rats, revealed that, after witnessing the inhumane way in which the rats were treated, he no longer wished to cooperate. Apart from travelling conditions that were so poor that the rats, imported from Hungary, had started to eat each other upon arrival in the Netherlands, Herzog insisted the plain white rats be dyed gray. In order to do so, according to 't Hart, the cages containing the rats needed to be submerged in boiling water for several seconds, causing another half of them to die. The surviving rats proceeded to lick themselves clean of the dye immediately, as Hart had predicted they would. Hart also implies sheep and horses that appear in the movie were treated very poorly, but does not specify this any further.

In 2010, 't Hart talked in the TV program Zomergasten about his involvement as expert for rats in Nosferatu. According to 't Hart, Herzog ordered 12,000 white rats from Hungary to the Netherlands, where they were to be used for a pest scene. The transport lasted three days, during which the rats were not fed nor soaked; therefore, they began to devour each other. After their arrival, Herzog decided to color them black. For this process, the animals were put into boiling water, whereby half of them died. 't Hart then withdrew from the project. In the TV program, he called the process "immoral".

I don't understand the concept, and have never seen a vampire film that either made sense or was in any way entertaining, and that includes Herzog's attempt, even though the photography is outstanding. This frees my time to spend with proper films that reward repeated viewing.
