Helen Thomas has ripped Robert Gibbs a new one regarding media control.

“I’m not saying there has never been managed news before, but this is carried to fare-thee-well--for the town halls, for the press conferences,” she said. “It’s blatant. They don’t give a damn if you know it or not. They ought to be hanging their heads in shame."

What ever happened to change we can believe in?

What ever happened to change we can believe in?Helen Thomas' problem is that there's been a change. She's been griping since online news services were first allowed in the Whitehouse pressroom. So what?

from reading that transcript, it appears more like Helen Thomas is the one who got a "new one ripped." She comes off as incoherent.

And do people really get their news from CSN? LMAO!

Anyone who refers to the "liberal media" is stupid by default.

She is complaining that the Obama Administration screens the questions they answer beforehand. The Administration told a specific reporter to pick a question that was screened by them. The Administration is trying to make itself look good by doing this. It is controlling because reporters cannot ask the questions they want to ask.

The administration doesn't screen anything. The Huffington post approached Gibbs with a question that had been sent to them from Iran, & asked specifically if they could get it into the press conferrence. Of course he's going to read it before he gives a yea or nay. That's it. Helen Thomas is trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.

Sorry Helen, but the Washington press corps doesn't get to control the "gaggle", let alone an actual press conference with the President. You may have gotten a lot of love from your collegues while in the Whitehouse doghouse during the Bush administration, just because you're old, but you really aren't the center of anybody else's universe.

That is not true. The deputy press secretary admitted that they were ones that approached him.

Y'all don't know what you're talking about. There's no story here. Who gives a shit about a bunch of puffed up reporters whining over who's first in line? There is no line. It's not their decision to make. They're going to snivel because Huffington post got a shot at second? Why? Because they're a web service? Boo hoo. It didn't seem to bother them when they were all using Huffington as a source during the Iran debacle because they were the ones who were tied in to the networks. Did any of them have a question from Iran? Just a bunch of prissy crybabies who think anybody else should be interested in them jockeying for position. Fuck 'em.

Sometimes when I see Helen Thomas babbling I expect to see her nurse come retrieve her and take her back to the home. As a guy who doesn't care for Obama I still feel bad for Robert Gibbs, who seems like a nice guy, having to put up with her foaming at the mouth thinking all press conferences are "The Helen Thomas Show".

She's old, wrinkly and she never threw anyone any softballs. You're not supposed to fuck her, or paste her face on the image of a hot babe and wank off. Just let her ask questions and evaluate the answers.

Gibbs is no different than Mclelland or Ari Fleischer. Don't kid yourselves
