I was going to post something but those last 2 pix said a lot more about you than the guy you were trying criticize.

When the United States (the Reagan and Bush41 administrations) was all chummy-chummy with dictator Saddam Hussein in the 80s, it was basically complicit with every torturous act and mass grave committed by Hussein, as it has been many times throughout the last half century with many other repressive thugs. Saddam was just one of many thugs the United States propped up, sponsored, or supported in the last half century all in the name of "security" or "national interests". It still astounds me that guys such as Kramer or El Hefe live so detached from history and/or reality. As long as their lot is taken care of (tax cuts, breaks, etc), and they won't ever have to go fight in some illegal unwarranted war in some far off land for greedy corporations, it's the cowardly ignorant mantra, My country, right or wrong, and to hell with anyone that criticizes it.

... I have to wonder what Kramer would do if his taxes were raised to, say, tax rates of the 1960s ? I bet the house that he would be making plans to leave his "beloved" country for the nearest tax sheltering island that would take him ... his patriotism would end at the border, and he'd be the one crying for change.

My taxes always go up, property, school, dividends, they all go up.

You guys do make some interesting points though. But ya cant compare republicans to Nazis, that just dont add up.

Im sure your buddy Clinton knew about Saddam too. Just never had the balls to do anything about him.

I hate when people say- oh if you criticize the goverment why don't you move to another country?

WTF???

America is alll bout the freedom to disagree and criticize the goverment.
Just becuase you do not agree with the administration/politics makes you less of an American than anyone else.

I am happy to live in this country and I love many other countries around the world as well- but I live here and I am an American an d I hate the way this country is going politically and socially.

We all the right and freedom to say what we want. Maybe the neo-right wingers want a dictatorship- but that is not the case THUS FAR.

Department of Homeland Security......Isnt that what eventually turned into the SS under Hitlers reign?? Odd how we have one now....

Patriot Act......If you have read this and understood the implications I dont have to say anymore.

The current Adminstritation is acting an awful lot like Hitlers did.

Im only 32 and Ive never served in the military(thank god), but I can read and I can compare history.

Colin Powell in Cairo on February 24, 2001 said, "He (Saddam Hussein) has not developed any significant capability with respect to weapons of mass destruction. He is unable to project conventional power against his neighbours."

Two months later, Condoleeza Rice said, "We are able to keep his arms from him. His military forces have not been rebuilt."

Bush only became the President January 20, 2001. Unless they did all that in a month, Powell and Rice were talking about the legacy of the previous Administration's policys and practices. So Bill Clinton did do plenty about Saddam Hussein. Including launching 23 missles against Saddams security headquarters in response to their alleged assassination plans for former President Bush and with a 15-0 vote of support from the United Nations Security Counsel, another massive, yet surgical missle strike in 1998 when UN Weapons inspectors were excluded.

For an example of real inaction Rumsfield met with Saddam in the 80s and was instrumental in re-establishing normal diplomatic relations with Iraq, doing so right after Iraq was known to have used chemical weapons.

as far as comparing the Bushies to the Nazi's, I go along with Jon Stewart. Its not fair......to the Nazi's who really dedicated themselves to being brutally. evily and inhumanely efficient. And did you really mean to say that a President who nearly was impeached for getting a blow job in the White House has no balls?? cause it sure seems to be the opposite to me :)

Felicia! WYB ???

Let's not forget that the United States sent a Senate delegation to reportedly deflect world criticism of Hussein -- right after he had ordered the gassing of the Kurds. PBS (POV) had footage of some very familiar Senators shaking Saddam's hands ala Rumsfeld's visits in the 80s.

Yeah, our country and its powerbrokers are always paragons of virtue.

This highlights a problem which often bemuses people from outside of the USA. There are some people in the USA who equate their government with their country automatically, and can't seem to differentiate.

Ergo, anyone who criticizes the present administration is "unpatriotic", or somehow against the country as a whole.

I'm not an American but I think it's a great COUNTRY. Yes the present administration is pretty deceitful, and quite obviously so. To criticize THAT is patriotic - it's in the interests of the nation rather than simply those in power.

Most other countries don't have the same mindset, where their government is automatically equated with the country as a whole. As I mentioned, some Americans just don't get it (but plenty do).

USA is still, IMHO, a better guarantor of liberty than any other country. But once again, this refers to the USA as a country, based on its founding principles as outlined in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

Whether those rights are eventually eroded to the point where other countries can take on this mantle is another matter.

I agree with you. However, countries like Canada are having a big laugh about the whole thing (can't blame them).
