Ah yes. Alex Jones & the army of "infowarriors". All 2 dozen of them. I was especially impressed by the picture of that guy with the big "B" on his luggage tag, marking him as an obvious "Bilderberger".
What a collossal waste of time.

Hippifried, instead of name calling and ad hominem sentiments, why not debate the points made in the film if you have an issue with them; and provide counter evidence, if you can find any. I'm just saying...

Points? What points? I can't refute evidence that doesn't exist. Innuendo isn't evidence. The incessant rambling of Alex Jones isn't evidence.
There's nothing there. Show me something, & I'll try to look at it as something other than a joke. This ain't it.

I hear just fine. This isn't a problem with me. This is a problem of people making accusations, innuendos, & huge leaps of fuzzy logic with no actual facts to back any of it up.
Show me something. Anything concrete. I'm not interested in the opinions of wannabe pundits that are desperate to gain relevance by feigning shock at known realities. I can't & won't base my own opinions on someone else's opinions, filtered through layers of other opinions. I need facts, & I'm not seeing anything but hot air in all this conspiracy craziness. Show me something I don't already know without an opinion attached to it, & let me draw my own conclusions. I'm not stupid & I take offence at unearned pomposity.

NO FACTS? NO FACTSSSS??? Wow!Oh. That's a big surprize too, huh? One of those known realities is that people run off at the mouth without actually having any information, & there are naive people who buy it. Sorry. No sale.

I've been listening to this doom & gloom crap since before you were born & have yet to see any of it play out. So now what? I must be crazy because I'm not paranoid & my natural skepticism includes you & your cult leader Alex Jones? I'm supposed to become a pessimist because your picket sign says "the end is near"? Go change your sackcloth. Your ashes are getting on my carpet. Don't worry about me. Whatever happens, I'll cope.

This isn't 1929. We have the FDIC, so there are no bank runs. Unemployment is up because it's been creeping up over the last 3 or 4 years. Despite the blinders worn by the government & Wall Street, the people saw the problem & took action. They changed the Congress in 2006 & the Whitehouse in 2008. That's how we do things in a democratic republic. The stock market didn't collapse. It just popped the bubbles & corrected.
The dollar didn't fall in the '29 crash or during the depression. It actually gained in strength. So much so that deflation became a concern & there was an official devaluation later.
So now, what we have here is some movie maker creating a fictional scenario & calling it a documentary. Is there a point here, other than somebody trying to sell himself to get a better gig on a real movie?

History doesn't repeat itself exactly. The only similarity is there are financial winners and losers (millions). Look for violence as food prices explode upwards this summer due to world wide draughts and reignited inflation (hydrocarbon prices also set to explode upwards).

Look for violence as food prices explode upwards this summer due to world wide draughts and reignited inflation (hydrocarbon prices also set to explode upwards). So as long as you're predicting the weather, how about checking your ouija board & getting us all some stock tips or lottery numbers.
What the fuck are you talking about? I mean really...
What violence? Against whom? Are the Klingons attacking or something? Are the monsters due on Maple St.?
When was the last time there were food or economic riots in the United States? Didn't happen in the '30s. We had a full blown economic depression & the worst drought in recorded history. Due to stupid farming techniques, the dust bowl blew away topsoil from Texas to Canada. It lasted for most of a decade. No violence.
Didn't happen in the '70s when the Nixon shock threw us into an inflationary spiral that we still haven't gotten out of. Wages were frozen by edict. Prices were supposed to be capped too, but that didn't work. Prices just wen't straight up to the cap & started rising from there. In the middle of all that, the Arabs went on strike & stopped producing oil. All prices skyrocketed & so did unemployment at the same time. So as we started climbing out of that mess, the Fed jacked the discount & the prime rate hit double digits. If ever there was a time for riots & violence, that was it. Nothing.
So now we're all supposed to completely fall apart because some banks got ripped off by their insurance company? Let's see... The harmonic convergence came & went. The rapture came & went. Maybe if Dr Evil manages to stop the rain, he can figure out how to wake Brahma from his dream & we'll all go poof.

Fine, keep your head in a hole. All you have to do is to google "draughts world wide". It's sooo easy.

What hole? Droughts are cyclical. We deal with them all the time. The range wars ended over a century ago, & they really weren't that big of a deal anyway. Over the last decades, there's been reclamation projects all over the world to minimize the effects of the weather cycles. I'm in the most productive farm valley in the world, acre for acre, & it hardly ever rains here. Less than 3 inches of average annual precipitation. The days of scattering seeds on the ground & praying for rain are over. You don't know what you're talking about.

Sorry. Doesn't wash. That story's just a local rah rah to get environmental restrictions lifted. There's been bigger & longer droughts since the California Central Valley was irrigated. Nobody's planting seeds & praying for rain. The San Joaquin Valley has a pipeline to Lake Mojave or Havasu. Maybe both. The 40% figure is for the entire State of California. If production gets curtailed in the Sacremento Valley, there's not going to be starvation. San Joaquin, Coachella, & Imperial valleys will pick up the slack, along with all the other farm regions in California, the US, & around the world. Munch all you want. We'll make more.
As for the second link:
Every time property values fall, even on a neighborhood level, there's people lining up to demand reassessment. Wouldn't you if you were a homeowner? You might want to own your own home when you grow up. You'll never realize the American dream by hiding under a rock & waiting for the end times though.

While it's probably past due to be talking people into decreasing their family sizes to curtail population growth, there's enough food to go around. Hunger in the world is a distribution problem, not a true shortage.

Hippifried,
Why are you trying debate a bunch of morons who obviously don't read or investigate the positions they vehemently defend? You're wasting your time. Math, science fact or fiction, has bearing on them. They live in fool's paradise where everything has a tag, name, or solution that can be thought of in a matter of seconds.
What I also have to augh at is all the Republican trannie chasers. Do they realize what their neighbors really think of their sexuality or lifestyle choice?! :puke
hippifried

Why? Several reasons.
First being that it's fun of course. Easy too. I read the Birch books back in the early '70s, & this is exactly the same shit. Shootin' holes in this crap is like plunkin a target at 50 yds with a high powered scope.
I guess second would be that I'm just too damn lazy to get out of this chair. It's a nice one. All springy, adjustable, comfy...
& this is the sub-forum where Trish hangs out a lot, so I have to look through all the stuff just to see if she's here anyway because she's apparently figured out a way to not show up on the list. What can I say? Brains turn me on, so I'm intrigued enough to stalk her through the HA forum. I've developed this whole fantasy world where she's reciting the periodic table or explaining string theory while she's plowing me like the north 40. Of course the second part of that fantasy extends to a whole lot of people in here, but I like smart. :D

Sorry for not catching that post back in early May, hippiefried. I was grading tons of exams and designing finals. But the feeling is mutual. I hang here because of you and others make it worth while. On the other hand certain contributors do really lower the intellectual temperature at times … but never yours. Thanks for the complement.

Taken from a site that I just passed by....
To commemorate the 4th of July, here is another update on some of the many ways Obama has proven continuous with Bush:
Civil Liberties
* The Obama Administration drafted plans to reassert presidential authority to incarcerate terrorism suspects indefinitely.
* Not only that, but Obama's Department of Defense is claiming the president has the power to detain people indefinitely even after they have been acquitted at their trial, rendering due process a joke.
* Obama's Department of Justice sided with the Bush Administration and successfully argued before the Supreme Court that convicted criminals have no constitutional right to access evidence for DNA analysis.
Foreign Policy
* While Bush claimed "Mission Accomplished", Obama touts Iraqi "National Sovereignty Day" - despite the "withdrawal" that continues to station U.S. troops in U.S. military bases just outside Iraqi cities.
* The Obama White House has reportedly threatened anti-war freshmen House Reps who planned to vote against another $106 billion war spending supplemental (which then passed).
* Obama is still using robots to bomb people in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and seems to be as fluid as Bush regarding the reasons for going to war in Afghanistan in the first place.
Environment
* Obama is making no move to stop Mountaintop Coal Mining but merely promising more bureaucratic oversight of the destruction of Appalachian mountains, forests and streams.
* White House has reportedly used aggressive tactics to flip House Reps who opposed the Waxman-Markey cabon cap bill on environmental grounds.
Transparency
* Obama follows Bush in blocking journalists and watchdog groups from access to White House visitor logs.
Sense of Humor
* G.W. Bush liked to make fun of women he executed, and Obama thinks it is funny to make cheap jokes about Uighurs who, though they had been cleared of any wrongdoing, spent 7 years in Guantanamo and may never see their families again.
Gay Rights
* Obama's Department of Justice filed a legal brief in defense of the Defense of Marriage Act, which defines marriage as between a man and a woman - despite his campaign promises to repeal it. In the brief, gay marriage is compared to incest and to marrying children and also claimed that banning gay marriage is good for the Federal Budget. (But Obama is not exactly like Bush on this point, since after being criticized he talked to reps from the LGBT community and smiled at them and made more promises.)

To commemorate the 4th of July, here is another update on some of the many ways Obama has proven continuous with Bush:
In Obama's defense, he's a champ at giving speechs. Bush was horrible at giving speechs. In fact, you could probably be scrolling the exact same words as Bush on the teleprompter and Obama would still leave people with a greater sense of comfort.
Truth be told, most US Presidents only manage to push thru a couple big things. The overall policy rarely shifts more that 5%.
Obama's been dealt a bum hand on just about everything and hasn't exactly surrounded himself with a great cast of characters. I think he's in for a rough ride.
Imo Obama should change direction on healthcare and go balls out for single payer. The plan that Obama currently has on the table gives the Republicans as much as they could hope for and they still aren't gonna vote for it. Meanwhile the compromises in the plan are undercutting support in his Democrat base.
