Keeping it real, it was Sabrina Valentina (Transexual Superstars)! And I must admit, she is a very beautify t-girl! In my opinion, I thought that the fucking in this one was somewhat passive. I like to see a pounding take place in transgendered videos; I guess that I'm a little jaded, and have seen a few too many Shemale flicks? I would give it a 7 out of 10; lets face it the girl is sexy as Hell!

Can one buy a DVD of Satantango, Stavros? Will watching it make me a wiser person?
Taken seriously, Satantango asks demanding questions of both the audience and the directors (Tarr and his partner Hradnitzky). Tarr has said something like 'cinema is about reality', and if it takes eight minutes for a herd of cows to wander into a field then thats how long it takes -Antonioni used this tactic in L'Avventura so its not new -but some of Tarr's takes stretch the boundaries of endurance and one has to ask -how long can a take be? Also the film is structured like a tango -six steps forward, six steps back, twleve scenes in all, but not in simple order. The overall impact of the film is profound -my guess is that people who have hated it have ducked out of the complete experience, but it is a trial I am not denying that. I went to the premiere of Straub and Huillet's From the Cloud to the Resistance at the London Film Festival years ago-must be 1980 or 81-and there was one exceedingly long take of a man on a cart -someone in the audience even shouted cut! at one point. When a member of the audience asked an unforgettable question of Jean-Marie -'Why did you break all the rules of editing?' he, unforgettably, exploded: 'Whose rules??!! Whose rules???!!'. Satantango is a tough call, I do rub it but that's just me being provocative. The film is in a box set of 3 dvd's. Unfortunately perhaps, its not much of an advertisement for Hungary although I am sure outside Budapest its got something other than mud and rain.
There is also a Bela Tarr box with Werckmeister Harmonies, Damnation, and The Man from London. His latest film, The Turin Horse, can be read about on imdb.
This is a fair assessment of the film:

Stavros... I got the whole thing overnight by free download but NO SOUND!!! and subtitles in Italian. So gonna have to buy it.
if you enjoy Hungarian culture then try to see the photographic exhibition which just opened at the Royal Academy - masterful (if familiar) work by the likes of Kertesz, Brassai, Moholy-Nagy, Capa and others less familiar (to me). A reminder of the mighty creativity of the magyars.

Thanks for the tip I wasn't aware of this exhibition. Its a pity that so many of Jancso's films are hard to get hold of, I used to go the Academy Cinema in Oxford St when I lived in London -it was set up by an Hungarian emigre, George Hoellering who used to bring in some of the best East European films of the day.

Jarhead last night -one of the more intelligent films about Americans at war, probably because its a true story, and also Sam Mendes directing. I like Jamie Foxx as an actor in many of the films he has been in -and the ones that bombed weren't his fault; and also Jake Gyllenhall although I didn't like either Donnie Darko or Brokeback Mountain. My only quibble about Jarhead is when they draw close to the burning wells and camp overnight -surely it would have been impossibly hot? The sudden appearance of the horse is an amazing moment.

Richard III has had some of the best reviews of a 'new play' in London I have read for years, so I am assuming everyone can't be wrong. I saw the 'transexual' Richard III at the Globe in the summer of -2003? Can't recall the precise year; even with uneven acting it was magical. Olivier's film is a travesty of another kind, a vehicle for that over-rated actor's limitless vanity and unworthy of Shakesepeare. I don't know but I think making the King gay is where the director of Richard III in The Goodbye Girl got the idea from which Richard Dreyfuss finds so hard to achieve. Particularly at the end where Richard at Bosworth field in his pantyhose raises the sword and swishes his legs like a ballerina -one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen. Presumably Larry was thinking of Danny Kaye and a tryst and assumed the sword was a cock, and so on and so on.

Kiss the Girls -Ashley Judd is outstanding in this film, but oh dear, there is Brian Cox with another phoney southern drawl, I mean surely America has actors from North Carolina who could do it even if it isn't much of a part -? And why are the nastiests villains nearly always cops or senior officers in the CIA/FBI -is there some cryptic message about public confidence in law enforcement going on here?

Anybody here from Missouri or Arkansas? Especially the Ozarks? The last film I saw was "Winter's Bone" a brilliant but bleak picture of life among some very poor folk in the Ozarks. Boy - this is a part of the US that the modern world gave only bad stuff to. The picture is one of unremitting darkness and ignorance with the central character a young girl trying to take care of her family the only real moment of redmeption. Terrific though.

High Noon
Classic movie which has resonated since childhood. The look of cold disdain as Gary Cooper throws down his badge at the end left me with a lifelong loathing of Harry Morgan, even when he played the genial Col Potter in Mash.
Last night I watched a French/German/UK co-production of a 19th century story which combined elements of Dickens, Hardy, Zola and others, called Verborgenes Feuer. Beautifully acted and well-paced.
And it did have Sophie Marceau as the female lead, another of those beautiful and sexy French women who can act everyone else off the screen.
'Nuff said.

The next last film you see might be the film you saw before the last one: remakes are all the rage according to an article in today's Observer -can you believe a remake of Don't Look Now where the excuse is as follows:
"The original was very atmospheric, so we'll provide a little more of the narrative that audiences expect," producer Mark Gordon said.
I can't think of a director whose visual sense and editing style is so individual as Nicolas Roeg, and I can handle all sorts of 'narratives' Mr Gordon! A remake is an insult -not just to Roeg, but to me as well...

I saw it when it was first released and was also disappointed, but have now seen it five or six times and I wonder if you should try it again -the end you don't seem to like is visually present in the first shot in the film where Donald Sutherland is editing a slide of a Venetian church -I won't say precisely how as that would be a spoiler. Let's just says that primary colours are an important part of the film's narrative, as are the colours and contours of Venice out of season. Its also one of Du Maurier's ghost stories -it has more and more in it the more you see it, please give it another chance.

Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut was on tv last night, I missed the first half hour but watched most of the rest, and its even worse than I thought. I have turned against most of Kubrick's films, not for their technical prowess but largely because Kubrick's depressing view of life is repeated throughout his oeuvre: however hard you try to change things, they always remain the same. There isn't much more to the core of his films, the rest, like David Lynch is wrapping paper. Now I find there is someone called Jeremy Bernstein whose labours of love include a shot-by-shot analysis of Eyes Wide Shut, I read through some of it and unfortunately it only confirmed for me how self-indulgent this film is; but I will let BM's make their own minds up. The Bernstein link is here:

The praise accorded to Don't Look Now by Stavros is holly apprirate. This was a superbly well structured film - hahnting and clever. The notion of a remake is just plain idiotic. It is deeply depressing that the money guys who run the Hollywood film system these days cannot bring themselves to fund clever new writing, but instead sanction re-makes. Are there any remakes that are better than the original? Maybe - if you think of films that were originally made as silent films or as obscure B Movies. But this is like commissioning a sunday painter to re-do the Last Supper by Michelangelo.
Nicholas Roeg at his best was one of the finest british film directors of the past few years - starting with his work with Donald Cammell on Perfomance and then getting into his solo stride with Don't Look No, Walkabout, The man Who Fell to Earth and then Bad Timing. After this something happened and he lost the plot. Most of his latest films went straight to video without a cinematic release. Before he was a director he was a DOP - and worked on many film films including Fahrenheit 451

Before he was a director he was a DOP - and worked on many film films including Fahrenheit 451
He was second unit director for David Lean, working on Dr Zhivago, and as 2nd Unit director on Lawrence of Arabia, mostly the action scenes in the desert, much of which was shot in the Wadi Rum...
Bad Timing is a work of genius -I never tire of watching it; and yes, his films deteriorated thereafter, I have Eureka and have seen it 3 times now, but it doesn't work; there is a similar lack of focus in Insignificance, Track 29, and Castaway which is an uncomplicated film for a man who loves/loved complexity. Although I would have thought Roeg is the only director (in the English-speaking world) who could do justice to Joseph Conrad's elliptical prose, Roeg's Heart of Darkness is apparently a disaster, according to this review:
Heart of Darkness (TV 1993) - IMDb@@AMEPARAM@@http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMTYwMzUzOTg1MV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNDQ5NTAyMQ@@._ V1._SX76_SY140_.jpg@@AMEPARAM@@BMTYwMzUzOTg1MV5BMl 5BanBnXkFtZTcwNDQ5NTAyMQ@@@@AMEPARAM@@SX76@@AMEPAR AM@@SY140 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110002/)

Incidentally Ocean's 12 was on tv last weekend I think it was, and there is a scene in the movie where Matsui (played by Robbie Coltrane) talks gibberish, such as If all the animals along the equator were capable of flattery, then Thanksgiving and Hallowe'en... would fall... on the same day...its something the dealer does when talking with people he doesn't know or trust: I think Soderbergh lifted this idea from the film Nueve Reinas/Nine Queens, made in Argentina in 2000 -not sure if anyone has seen it but Nine Queens had me guessing to the last moment in the film, and even when I watched it again I enjoyed it. Fantastic film.
I also note that the character Don Cheadle plays in Oceans -with a horrific 'English' accent, is called Basher Tarr, surely a sly dig at an Hungarian maestro...?

they substituted car races for car chases in this F&F film and there's
a ton more shooting than any of them together. the addition of the Rock

the film was moving and going at a good enough pace. i would have liked to seen more Tyrese-humor into it but with so many additional faces it had to be short and sweet.

I watched Black Hawk Down for the second time last night. I think its one of the best war films of recent years, and one of the few that emphasises the intensity of the relationships that develop between service personnel when they are in the thick of fighting. The futility of attempting to abduct Aideed is not so important, the production is terrific in its ability to convey the chaos of Somalia (even if filmed in Morocco which can be chaotic in its own way in certain places...), and the way in which the details of combat have been thought through. It probably helps that it is based on a true story and an eyewitness account, many war films seem to work when based on this. I don't know Josh Hartnett much but he is outstanding in this film. It is violent and gory, but for once it serves the story rather than being a bloody gloss on reality, and moves across the Rangers involved without idolising or selecting one over another, although I suppose the Hartnett character has a little more screen time, a true ensemble piece. Also, the absence of any sense of triumph -and not just because the mission was a costly failure-gives the film an edge, a depth that is lacking in the kind of war film I detest -of which Saving Private Ryan, soaked more in treacle than blood, is a good/bad example. Perhaps the Somali side could have been given more weight, but the only element that is truly unforgiveable is the use of a requiem style music at the end, completely inappropriate for this film which doesn't need tear-jerking music moments; a cop out by Ridley Scott who should have known better.

The last movie I saw was "Attack the Block", an English sci-fi movie that was released in the U.K. and Ireland on May 13 and will be given limited release in the U.S. on July 29. This movie was shown in June at the Los Angeles Film Festival and was given a special showing last night (Fourth of July) at the New Beverly Theater in Hollywood. The director of the film, Joe Cornish, was there to give a Q&A after the film.
The story takes place in South London, London's roughest neighborhood consisting of housing projects and gangs. A group of teen muggers terrorize a young woman until a giant meteor lands in a car next to them. The woman escapes, the thugs look in the car to see what it is. A strange creature attacks the ringleader of the gang, but he fights him off. The creature scampers into an abandoned shed nearby. They follow it there and kill him, hauling it out of the shed like it's some trophy. They take it back home to their housing project where they show it off to neighbors. Meanwhile, the woman provides description of her attackers to police. The police show up at the project to make arrests. The woman in a nearby van identifies her attackers. Right after the police lock them up in the same van, more creatures attack the police, trapping both the mugging victim and the perps in the same van and the rest of the movie becomes a fight for survival.
"Attack the Block" pays homages to movies like "Assault on Precinct 13", "Die Hard" and "Tremors". The movie is scheduled to be released in the U.S. on July 29, probably in New York, Los Angeles and a few selected cities.
Update: In addition to New York and Los Angeles, "Attack the Block" will also open in Chicago, Austin, San Francisco, Seattle and Toronto.

Reviews are in. The two papers that gave this film negative reviews, the San Francisco Chronicle and The Settle Times, complained about the opening sequence where the lead character gets mugged and after the aliens have landed, the muggers become heroes as the victim teams up with them.
" ... this fabulously inventive debut feature, written and directed by the British comedian Joe Cornish, never flags."
- Jeannette Catsoulis, The New York Times
"Spirited and exciting, 'Attack the Block' is so-called geek cinema done right."
- Mark Olsen, Los Angeles Times
"Writer-director Joe Cornish, a veteran of British TV, has delivered a brisk blast of bloody good fun, sci-fi with a little social commentary as subtext."
- Roger Moore, Tribune Newspapers
" ... an entertaining thriller in the tradition of 1970s B-action films, with an unknown cast, energetic special effects and great energy."
- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times
" ... sporadically funny but never as entertaining as it should be, and the presence of the usually reliable Nick Frost, of 'Shaun of the Dead' and 'Hot Fuzz,' doesn't add much zip."
- Moira Macdonald, The Seattle Times
"In Britain, it's probably just a regular bad movie, but here - with accents that are barely comprehensible and in-jokes about council flats, ... it's surprising this thing ever got released."
- Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle
"Stacked against this summer’s CGI-driven blockbusters, 'Attack the Block' is definitely the fastest action ride, and quite possibly the most fun."
- Jennie Punter, The Globe and Mail
" ... the action is bloody, funny and no character is above meeting a nasty end."
- Linda Barnard, The Toronto Star

Crash - 1996 with Matt Dillon, Thandie Newton to name just two.
Great movie, seen it several times, very clever integration of several interlinking stories. I challenge anyone not to shed a tear at the scene with the alarm guy and his daughter when they get shot.

Curious as I also watched Crash again recently, and yes that moment is electric. The film works because none of the ensemble lords it over the other and the pieces all fit together; it has a chilling resemblance to Los Angeles, although I only know the place from unwelcome visits. Multi-layered stories have to have that delicate balance to work, Magnolia, for example, was a failure; Babel a Success; Mammoth a failure, and so on.

Glad you share my view on that Stavros, other movies in a slightly similar multi-layered vein to Crash which I enjoyed are; Lucky Number Sleven, Go (Katie Holmes), Jackie Brown & Kill Bill 1&2. Love a bit of over exuberant Tarantino.

I watched Kill Bill 1 and 2 back to back, not having seen them since their release. I wasn't a fan at the time, and watching them again, they are both great productions, and have the characteristic cross-references Tarantino is addicted to, in this case Spaghetti Westerns, Japanese comics, and some vague link to westerns. The fundamental problem is that I didn't care about Beatrix Kiddo and her revenge mission, I understand the satirical way in which Tarantino uses violence, but the films don't have the fizz and existential sparkle (?) of either Reservoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction -both of which also have better scripts -the only films that Tarantino so far will be remembered for. I am not a fan of Uma Thurman but thats not important. Accomplished film-making to no purpose, I am going to give these 2 DVD's away and will not miss them.

"Sarah's Key", French film starring Kristin Scott-Thomas as an American journalist in Paris who turns up the shameful true story that when the Jews were rounded up in 1942, it was all conducted by the French authorities with little or no involvement from the Germans.

I watched Iron Man 2 last night. The first was let down by its hollywood Arabs-as-demons (again), but had a good script which is also true of this one. For some reason I like Robert Downey Jr even though he doesn't have a wide repertoire of abilities; it can't be taken seriously, and as always when these films decline, one Iron Man can't be beaten by a minor army of Iron Men, probably because they were built by a Russian (code=never could beat America). I can't see a third one coming along, the plot lines are getting, er...rusty? Scarlet Johansson looks good in a tight dress, as does many a transexual...

Prospero, how does Tinker Tailor compare to the tv version with Alec Guinness?
I watched some oldies this week: Tarkovsky's Mirror; Bergman's Summer with Monika; and two films by Ozu Late Spring and Early Summer. The Ozu and the Bergman, in their own ways, are about family love and the fate of young women -I can't imagine Ozu would ever comprehend the emotional anarchy of Summer with Monika -two interesting contrasts, the excessively controlled Japanese environment compared to restless youth in Sweden. There is a moment when Harriet Andersson suddenly looks staight into the camera, defiant, insolent, challenging -she was in her late teens when she filmed it and again, is poles apart from Setsuko Hara, Ozu's principal female muse -I can't fault either of them, they have been among my most favourite screen females for decades, but the scene shot at the No theatre in Late Spring is devastating, Ozu has the power to do that in a brief moment -and again, the moment when Harriet Andersson dies in Cries and Whispers is profound. I could go on about these two genii for hours.

Tokyo Gore Police - Japanese blood & guts exploitation, second half is better than first half

Death Valley - MTV episode (Reno 911 plus zombies, vampires & werewolves) funny

prospero you watch czech movies ? goood:-)
Closely Observed Trains is one of my favourite films of all time. A brilliant satire on the sclerotic nature of Czech/Soviet bureaucracy, carefully disguised as a loyal polemic about the nazis. I saw it many years ago in the old Glasgow Film Theatre, and when I bought it recently on DVD was delighted to find that it is still every bit as fresh, sharp and relevant as when it was first released.

A new French production called "The Artist" - black and white and silent! It's all about the moment when the silent movies gave way to the talkies at the end of the 920s. A very novel and rather cute film which references the style and approach of the romantic melodramas of the era. It's actually "in English"(ie the captions are in English). Really original.

Last night watched a new French thriller on DVD, A Bout Portant, Point Blank in English, and NOT a remake of John Boorman's excellent US thriller of the same name from 1967.
Directed by Fred Cavaye, who made the equally gripping Anything for Her, badly remade in the US as The Next Three Days, it is a taut, relentless thriller in the mode of Tell No One, and I can't offer higher praise than that. It starts as a kidnap and develops with various twists into a police corruption thriller. I don't think I drew breath in the entire 80 minutes. It's yet another demonstration that in addition to the arthouse and leftfield aspects, French mainstream cinema remains the best in the world.
Watch the original before Hollywood fucks it up again.

I tend to agree with Bobby Domino and RobertLouis re French films of recent vintage, I like Jacques Audiard -A Prophet, in particular. I also recently watched those Chris Marker films on one dvd: La Jetee, and Sans Soleil -Marker (named after the pen!) must be one of the most original film-makers in the last 50 years, I failed to see most of the ones the NFT showed in the 1980s and that was a mistake as they are rarely shown and I dont think they are on dvd.

Have you seen Mesrine, Bobby? Vincent Cassel has never been better.
You know what's funny, I watch so many movies, one after the other, I had to go back to my library of "viewed films" to confirm. And yes, I have seen it, but I vaguely remember anything, except Cassel's 70's mustache.
There is a movie I'd like to recommend in the same light as Mesrine. It's called, Carlos (2010), a biopic of the Venezuelan global terrorist all the way through the mid-90's.
I believe it's a 3-part movie/episode similar to Mesrine. The actor, Édgar Ramírez, is incredible!! He speaks 5 languages fluently throughout and the filming is outstanding.
I smoked many cigarettes watching that one, lol
However, I'm a big fan of Dobermann (1997), a bank job à la francaise, Natural Born Killer/Pulp Fiction-style of movie, with Cassel and Bellucci. I believe that movie is what got them together. It's really well done.
Also Killing Zoe, with Eric Stoltz & Jean-Hugues Anglade (from Betty Blue) but then I could go forever......

Mesrine was certainly a tour de force for Vincent Cassell, but i loathed that film. it seemed to have no real point apart from being a grim catalogue of one man's deeply unpleasant rampage through the world. Far better was last year's little seen six hour film on Carlos the jackal. It had political human and moral points to make as well as a cracking story.
Stavros
10-06-2011, 10:47 AM
I agree with Prospero, the perennial problem with biographical films is they leave stuff out -in the end, Mesrine was a criminal who sought self-glorification and justification he didn't deserve.
Went last night to see Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy -made up of approximately 60 three-minute scenes which prevent any character development, the 'spies' are stereotypes: the suave, laid-back ladies man; the excitable and ambitious shorty; the immigrant who wears bow-ties; and the other one (Ciaran Hinds) who doesn't do anything. There are aso the obligatory queers, and the sex-driven field agent who, guess what, falls for a blonde Russian on the other side. John Hurt plays John Hurt, as he has now become the go-to guy if you need end-of-career wise-but-worn-out; the dress-code is 1950s-60s even though it claims to be 1973; there is a phone-booth with stickers even though these didn't appear until the 1980s, and so on. The shock that there is a mole at the top of the intelligence service lacks credibility even in 1973 given that it had already happened with Burgess and Maclean in the 1940s-50s; much of the film is shot in half-light; the story is thin, the characters thinner, it is a complete waste of time and had it been possible, I would have asked for my money back, but the box office was closed.

Movies I've watched this week. I watch a lot of movies; don't judge me, lol
French movies
A Bout Portant (Point Blank) - fast-paced, high-intensity, action, cop thriller
Les Petits Mouchoirs (Little White Lies) - friends go on a weekend vacation - strong characters
Delicatessen - finally watched it. The French OWN this visual style of filming
Priceless - light comedy with Audrey Tautou (Amlie fame)
Roman de Gare - great suspense/mystery with Dominique Pinon (Amelie, Delicatessen)
Ryan Gosling movies -
Drive - not what you would expect from the previews. This movie rocked!!! There are only 6 characters. It's filmed in an 80's - not gritty but dark - style, 80's (or 80's-inspired) soundtrack!!!, very little talking, the car chases don't even dominate the movie. Highly highly recommended
Half Nelson - imo, the best Ryan Gosling movie, yet. He plays a crack-addicted high school basketball coach
Blue Valentine - co-stars Michelle Williams. An intense relationship drama. Super Indy feel

Another French film: Carlos. I now realise there is a longer TV version and that may explain why the film suddenly leaps 10 years from 1979 to 1989 with no explanation; for whats worth the tv mini-series must be better than the film.
The film begins with a disclaimer saying that it is fiction, which is apt, as some of it is. Wadi Haddad, portrayed brilliantly by Ahmad Kaabour, formed the military-political group the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine with George Habbash in 1967, after having set up the Arab National Movement in exile in the 1950s. The difference was that after 1967, the PFLP decided to take the 'struggle' into a new phase of violent confrontation with Israel and its allies, mostly through hijacking aeroplanes, something the PLO and Arafat had actually been opposed to. In the film, Carlos meets Haddad before the Vienna 1974 operation and says 'Habbash is finished' -yet Haddad had been expelled by Habbash from the PFLP at this time. The film also does not point out that Haddad and Habbash had been receiving $1m a month in protection money from European airlines terrified of losing business to hijacking, so that while the PFLP enjoyed protection from Arab regimes, it was financially independent -they also had poor relations with Iraq who sponsored Abi Nidal after the PLO split in 1973. The climax of the film with the seizure of the OPEC Ministers in Vienna does not explain why Sheikh Yamani and Jamshid Amouzegar are not instantly killed as instructed by Haddad. As for Andropov flying in to Baghdad to 'order' the assassination of Sadat...oh dear; Sadat was murdered by Jihadis but there isn't a Jihadi in sight in this film; which is enjoyable as far as it goes, and succeeds to a degree in portraying Carlos as an essentially selfish, pompous individual; but maybe on the basis of his interviews its the problem of director Oliver Assayas dealing with the ghosts of his pseudo-left wing past in the 'Situationist International'...

yes i do watch a lot of Filipino films but the recent trend for me has been more on indie films because they're so raw, sometimes they dont cater to the mainstream too much and the directors are very talented...I wanted to watch "Kinatay" but havent seen a good copy around yet, i love to watch in high quality if not in the theater anyway...LAst Filipino film I watched was an indie " Patayin sa Shokot si Remington - Zombadings" just a couple of weeks ago...:). The other night I watched Inarritu's Biutiful -I am a fan of most of his films, particularly Babel- and Biutiful gives an alternative view of Barcelona to the postcard city of Las Ramblas and that hideous squashed-wedding-cake architecture of Gaudi. This is a Barcelona of African and Chinese immigrants working on the margins of society and barely surviving -Javier Bardem plays a dysfunctional dad moving between the immigrants and the law, a middle-man with a conscience: I was moved by his fate. Interesting to compare this aspect of modern city life in Europe with the Woody Allen version in which -even in New York City- there are no blacks, no homosexuals, people dress and shop and live at a level barely even dreamed of by Chinese sweat shop labourers, but I don't suppose anyone ever accused Woody Allen of being realistic. Wonder how Inarritu's Barcelona compares to Allen's, as I didn't see his version of the city.

Angel-A (2005) - Luc Besson film, exceptional!!! Starring Jamel Debbouze about a street hustler who's at then end of his rope and about to commit suicide when he meets a woman about to do the same. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
A Serbian Film (2010) - a unadulterated, disturbing, raw movie about the filming of a porn which includes pedophilia & necrophilia. I have no idea how this movie was "green lit." It actually got good reviews, just be prepared for hardcore nudity & blood.
Hard Candy (2005) - intense emotional & physical movie about a man (Patrick Wilson from Little Children) who meets a twisted, very underaged teen (Ellen Page - Juno star) over the internet and invites her to his house. The entire movie is set in the house, there are only two actors and the movie managed to keep a good pace. Lots of surprises...

As I posted a week or so ago, the film Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is not worth seeing, being a facile parade of stereotypes in search of an assassination and an incoherent plot. I had vague memories of seeing the original 1979 TV series and bought the set, for £7. Because it runs just under 5 hours it allows the key characters to develop, something the film avoids; because of this it also make more sense, although a weakness in Le Carre's overall story is the feeble excuse the traitor gives for working for Moscow. Alec Guinness and the other actors are light years away from the useless clowns in the recent film, particularly Colin Firth and Gary Oldman; the atmosphere is right, the dialogue is right, and as with Smiley's People, which I also watched, there are scenes which last for minutes on end, something the McDonald's generation can't handle. Highly recommended.

Super - starring Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page, directed by James Gunn. Indie film about a meek diner cook whose wife leaves him for a drug dealer. He has a vision shortly afterwards and is compelled to become a superhero to fight crime and save his wife. Rainn is The Crimson Bolt, and Ellen is the comic shop employee who begs him to become his sidekick. It's funny, and also touching and sad at times. It's also super-violent, which I was not expecting. But that's not a bad thing. It's like a twisted, more violent, low-budget indie Kick Ass. And Ellen Page gets really sexy in her costume.

I watched Dogville for the second time, not having seen it for some years. I recall being puzzled by it the first time, whereas I now see the religious symbolism and the argument about love and hate, about morality and justice, punishment and redemption -but the problem with the film is not its transparent set, or even the repetitive playing of Vivaldi although that is bad enough -it is the voice-over narration by John Hurt which overloads a film that tries too hard to make all of its points. Ultimately, I don't even know if this is a film or just a play -the films of Bresson explore similar themes, yet the cruelty people inflict on each other in films like Au Hasard Baltasar, Mouchette, and L'Argent has greater depth than Trier's escapade, more visual flair, and does place Trier in the also-ran of directors, along with Godard, Almodovar and Gus van Sant.

Ha ha, I think you're the first one to post porn. Hey, they asked the question and you answered.
Totally valid, of course; I'm still laughing, though. Now watch this thread take a turn....
You rock, Evon!!!!

The Graduate. That film has a very special place in my heart because it comes painfully close to how I lost my virginity in my teens. Unfortunately I didn't end up with Katharine Ross though.

John Huston's final movie was also called The Dead - based on the Dubliners by James Joyce. Wonderful and I confess more my speed than a zombie film.
I'm thinking you'd not be into the last film I watched, either.
Some old skool violence with Robert De Nero, Jason Statham, Clive Owen (didn't recognize him at first) and Dominic Purcell.
Killer Elite
Very satisfying.
Though i think De Nero did it for the money! :shrug
