Hey Alyssa,
My guy-friends don't know this, but I can freely admit, I'm a sucker for a good love song. Here are a few sad/break-up ones that I can remember off the top of my head:
Mariah Carey - Vanishing
Alicia Keys - Never See Me Again
Sara Bareilles - Gravity
Carrie Underwood - I Know You Won't
Quincy Jones - Just Once
Chante Moore - One More Time
Toni Braxton - Un-break My Heart
I know I'm forgetting a few more. I can't tell you how many times I've played that Tamia/Brandy/GK/CK song...love that one.
Hmm...just thinking about these songs is getting me depressed. Thanks!
Ugh...maybe I'll drown my sorrow into some chocolate or start a "happy happy joy joy" song thread...

For an English song I get too sad with My All by Mariah Carey
But here is a sad song, its Arabic so heres the translation cuz I know nobody heard it before, but its very sad....
I swear to God
It's not worth living in this world without you
Nor is my life worth anything in this universe
You've gone
And how will I bear the distance between us
And how will I scatter these roses on the distance between us
You didn't promise to share with me in love
You remain for me love and a guide for my way
But death was closer and more merciful for me
God alone was a good agent for me
Go I'm satisfied with your absence my life
This is my lot and this is my destiny
You were a candle lighting and brightening my life
You went out and disappeared when you left

"Since I fell for you" by Lenny Welch is by definition the very song Alyssa talks about. Please Alyssa, give it a listen if you have not.
Seriously.......I recomend you all download it, go to a quiet place......and feel the song as the man sings. One of my favorite songs.........EVER
Thanks for the opportunity to state my (strong) opinion. lol.
Close seconds........."Good morning heartache" by Dianna Ross and by Billie Holiday
and even (don't laugh) the slow ballad version of breaking up is hard to do by neil sedaka. (not the fast one from the 50's or 60's, that one sux.

If Ever You're In My Arms Again
by Peabo Bryson
It all came so easy
All the loving you gave me
The feelings we shared
And I still can remember
How your touch was so tender
It told me you cared
We had a once in a lifetime
But I just couldn't see
Until it was gone
A second once in a lifetime
May be too much to ask
But I swear from now on
If ever you're in my arms again
This time I'll love you much better
If ever you're in my arms again
This time I'll hold you forever
This time we'll never end
Now I'm seen clearly
How I still need you near me
I still love you so
There's something between us
That won't ever leave us
There's no letting go
(No letting go)
We had a once in a lifetime
But I just didn't know it
'Til my life fell apart
A second once in a lifetime
Isn't too much to ask
'Cause I swear from the heart
If ever you're in my arms again
This time I'll love you much better
If ever you're in my arms again
This time I'll hold you forever
This time we'll never end
Never end
The best of romances
Deserve second chances
I'll get to you somehow
'Cause I promise now
If ever you're in my arms again
This time I'll love you much better
If ever you're in my arms again
This time I'll hold you forever
This time we'll never end...

Well, I feel like I don't have much to offer besides something cliche and obvious, but I guess I'll say it anyways.
Johnny Cash- Hurt
Yeah yeah yeah, I know. That one sure was pulled out of the depths of obscurity. And yes, I know it was originally by Nine Inch Nails. But hearing that song, especially when he was as close to death as he was really floored me.
Also Escape Club's I'll Be There really touched me.

One thing that rips my heart out and then stamps upon it are the songs from The Last Five Years. Its a musical that are mainly solos except for two songs and its about a couple and their relationship over the last five years as the title implies. The thing that is innovative about it is the first song is sung by Cathy at the end of the 5 years so its a sad song about how she is hurting from the relationship. The second song jumps to Jamie where he's singing about he just met this amazing girl and is quite in love with her. And then it just progresses backward and forward through time respectively. All of the videos of it are of poor quality video recordings but the actual sound track is way better than any actual performance.
