This weekend's number one movie. Who saw it? I hit it up twice.

As a lifelong Bond fan I was skeptical when Daniel Craig took over back in '06, but I was pleasantly surprised by Casino Royale and found Quantum to be really entertaining.

Can't wait to see what's in store for us next.

OK maybe not hated, but not impressed, the fight scenes were sub Bourne. Bond is supposed to be more than just a thug.

Seriously, the new Bond portrayed by Daniel Craig is so far away from the one we all knew and liked. There is still no better Bond than Sean Connery. The new one is too serious and looks like a brainless muscle-package stereotype. After seeing Casino Royale, I was thinking about to request my money back. My girlfriend forced me to the cinema this time, so I "forced" her to sex later.
The Daniel Craig Bond has no sense of humour and acts exactly like a brainless thug.

I like the new repackaged, current Bond that surfaced in 2006. I like Daniel Craig as Bond. I loved Casino Royale. I ... I ... I ... Quantum of Solace was ... um, nevermind.

I liked it...wanted to love it, but only liked it. Hated the editing, hated some of the director's choices. But, Daniel Craig was great again and the opera scene was fantastic. The new Bond girl Olga Kurylenko (sp?) is HOT!

I wasn't sure about Craig as Bond either a couple of years ago when Casino Royale came out, but he's really made it his own and he carried this movie. I can't wait for the next one to see what happens.

That said, I miss the fun of the old Bonds. No one will ever top Sean Connery, he set the standard. I enjoyed Brosnan as Bond, except for Die Another Day, which was the worst. I'm still enjoying this new Bond, but you can see that they're definitely trying to emulate the Bourne series. Bond shouldn't be a copy of anyone.

everyone is going to have their favorites of all the Bond actors, reason being? they are all different and they all took that character and made it their own, each actor is different, hence each Bond is different. Personally, i think Daniel Craig did a great job with the Casino Royale, i think he brought the deeper emotions into it, reminding us that Bond himself is also human, and while very good, can be hurt, and not just physically. I think that was missing from alot of the other Bonds personified.

Side question: How many more books are there based on Bond?

Actually, this version of Bond is the way creator Ian Fleming made him out to be in his books. Bond wasn't supposed to be the ultra handsome, suave spy that came to be from the movies. He was brutal and vicious, with a penchant for fine dining and other fine things in life. After the silliness that was Die Another Day, which went into sci-fi rather that spy, the series needed a reboot to save itself. Like Saifan and I mentioned, we kinda doubted that Daniel Craig would make a good Bond, but he's been the key reason why this reboot has worked. But you're right, too, Coroner, this isn't the Bond we all grew up with, expected, and loved. I dislike that they're trying to compete with the Jason Bourne, but it's the times and the "cold war Bond" created by Connery just wouldn't be relevant today.

Now that the "Vesper" story is done, who knows...maybe he'll lighten up a little more in the next movie and come a little closer to the Bond we all know, but still have that ruthlessness that he now has. We stilll haven't seen Q or Moneypenny, so it will be interesting to see where they take this new "original" Bond next.

Side question: How many more books are there based on Bond?

I think all the Ian Fleming books have been made into movies already. Now, they're getting inspiration from Fleming's short stories on Bond. I'll have to check my resources.

Wiki says the title of this latest film was taken from the "For Your Eyes Only" short story, but none of that story was used in the film.

If you google Ian Fleming, you should be able to find info on all the Bond books and stories. But, here's a quick list of the books I grabbed from wiki:

Initially Fleming's Bond novels were not bestsellers in America, but when President John F. Kennedy included From Russia With Love on a list of his favourite books, sales quickly jumped. Fleming wrote 14 Bond books in all: Casino Royale (1953), Live and Let Die (1954), Moonraker (1955), Diamonds Are Forever (1956), From Russia with Love (1957), Dr. No (1958), Goldfinger (1959), For Your Eyes Only (1960), Thunderball (1961), The Spy Who Loved Me (1962), On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1963), You Only Live Twice (1964), The Man with the Golden Gun (1965), and Octopussy and The Living Daylights (1966).

And in case you didn't know, "Goldeneye" was the name of Flemings estate in Jamaica.

(sorry for so many posts on Bond...like Saifan, I'm a lifelong fan of the Bond!) 8)
