There is a lot of hate out there, so some of this is to be expected. However, I do believe that the personal attacks of the McCain-Palin ticket have help to create an athmosphere where hate is acceptable. Palin in particular, has made Obama'a minor association wtih William Ayers a major campaign issue, trying to associate Obama's name the concpet of terrorism.

Interestingly enough, Palin was asked, during a joint interview with McCain, whether people who had bombed abortion clinics should be consisdered terrorists. She said that she would not call them terrorists. But that the Weathermen bombings in the seventies were. This shows her mindset.
