Those were some awesome informative links!

When I first started high school out here in MA "The War About Marriage" finally came to a halt. I was a sophomore when gay marriage was legalized here.

Still to this day I often here of opposition efforts to "amend the constitution" and shit like that...but I wish the best to the West. :)

:D Now all Mass needs to do is work a little more on specifically trans rights. The bull about not being able to change legal sex designation on state licenses is ridiculous...but anyways...God forbid I get started on that. lol

Thanks again Hara. :)

When sexual fetish coincides with social justice, you know it's the right thing to support!

Absolutely! There is no room for discrimination in California.

Many supporters of prop 8, argue that their kids will be "corrupted" in schools. However, history has taught us that teachings in schools or homes do NOT change ANYONE'S sexual orientation. EVERY gay person in America was taught by school and society "the heterosexual ways", yet their orientation and tendencies remained the same. Some took many years to come out of the closet, but they ALWAYS knew their personal sexual orientation.

Now, if supporters of prop 8 really care about kids, then care enough for that 5% to 9% of kids that soon will be teenagers and will learn of their queer sexual orientation and GIVE them RIGHTS to brighten their future.

Tell to those kids that they are equal than anyone else, that they have the same rights than anyone else and that California cares about them. Most importantly, tell them that there are more options than just night clubs, drinks, drugs and casual sex... Tell them that THEY ALSO can find that special one, get on their knees and pop the question.

Vote no Prop 8, and keep Utah interests out of California Families (and their bizarre religious polygamist view on marriage)

I agree. Those commercial where they used kids to promote prop 8 and get people to vote YES was done in poor taste. Educating kids about human sexuality is not as bad, especially when all schools have sex ed classes. Does the latter really prevented teenage pregnancies? Hmm..

I just read the blurb on the voter information page and find the words "...The measure would have no fiscal effect on state or local governments."

Proposition 08 - 1298. Limit on Marriage. Constitutional Amendment

Amends the California Constitution to provide that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California. Summary of estimate by Legislative Analyst and Director of Finance of fiscal impact on state and local government: The measure would have no fiscal effect on state or local governments. This is because there would be no change to the manner in which marriages are currently recognized by the state

Aside from the obvious nonsense of the millions of dollars burned by both sides to fight this bullshit proposition ("People are losing their homes! Why waste this kind of money on this hateful legislation?"), the above blurb seems to ignore the inevitable discrimination litigation that will come of nullifying the existing marriages.

Damn right that there will be "...fiscal effect on state or local governments.", and only the morons will fail to realize this.

Step up, California, and do the right thing. NO on 8.

Couldn't agree more Real.

From the Economist:
A colorful crowd gathered in the car park of a Catholic church in south Los Angeles on October 24th. There were suburban white evangelicals, blacks, Asians and Hispanics. Many pushed prams. People ate tacos and listened to Marvin Perkins, a black Mormon, invoke the memory of Martin Luther King. The aim of this rainbow coalition? To remove a basic right from another minority group.

As of right now, it is Yes on Proposition 8. 53 to 47.

You can follow it here.

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/results/individual/#CAI01

By the way, it has been a bad night for LGBT issues:

In Florida for example, the very same issue up for debate in California lost 62 to 38.

well, the percentages have been narrowing for the past hour, point by point...with only 25% in...so things could reverse.

Not necessarily a bad night, Kink, Hara, Tiffany, and all the others following this Proposition in California. Even though this proposition might end up losing when the night is over, it's still a matter of looking at the glass as either half empty or half full. I see progress believe it or not. The last proposition like this lost like four to one. It's a lot closer this time. And let's not forget that it also must pass Constitutional mustard. It will undoubtedly meet legal challenges if it does pass, in my opinion.

Rome wasn't built in a day. We must keep up the fight.

As an Amendment, though...it bypasses challenges, unless it goes against the US Constitution, and I don't think it hits that.
