Bill O'Reilly is the modern day version of Joseph Goebbels. Nothing but propoganda. And he tries to claim hes INDEPENDENT in order to make people think his extreme right wing views are the norm.

Apparently at least one conservative forum member is upset because he or she feels that those of us on the liberal side of things hate people with different points of view. Why don't you educate us on why you like Bill O'Reilly, why we should as well, and explain his "point of view" as best as you can understand it.

Bill O'reilly is a narcissistic asshat. But so is Olberman, Mathews, Blitzer, Hannity, and the rest of the political pundits who've got an interest in selling books, and party platforms.
But he does have the right to freedom of speech like all the rest.

Well... I've searched high & low, & I can't find anything on the idiot box even resembling journalism anymore. I don't think it's any kind of political conspiracy or anything like that. I just think it's a trend toward amateurism & laziness, along with an attitude that news & entertainment are one & the same. I can't help but think that if someone were to actually start doing legit news on the box again, they might find some hefty ratings just for being so out of the ordinary.
As for the video, I thought it was pretty funny. I'd be pissed off if some moron actuall killed him just to shut him up. But I could shrug it off if his meth dealer did him in over a bad debt or he got his head bashed in by somebody in a bar that he pissed off by being an asshole who thought he was invincible.
Everybody has the right of free speech. Nobody has a right to be listened to.

:popcornI see you've had to much kool aid and can't read what I wrote. I never said I like Bill O. I simply stated it's funny how you get panties all bunched upped when people express other points of view.
I'm just wondering how many people here like Keith Olbermann?

Keith leans my way, but I don't watch him because he's just the left's answer to Billy O. Most of what passes for news is really "punditry". Who actually bothers with investigation and fact checking these days? The one saving grace of television news is the PBS News Hour with Jim Lehrer. It's dry, matter of fact coverage. On almost every noteworthy story two guests of opposing views will be interviewed. The conversation is civilized and nobody talks over (let alone shouts over) the other's points and responses. It may not be perfect, but it attempts to be unbiased coverage with integrity and intelligence.

The thing is, we've got so many Reichwing extremists on radio and television - Hannity, Billo, Glenn Beck, Laura Ingraham, Rush, Malkin, Coulter, Michael (Wiener) Savage, etc. The average American has a pretty short attention span and needs to be hit over the head repeatedly to get anything to sink in. We seem to like our 'bread and circuses' also. That's why these clowns have such big audiences. Straight news isn't going to counter the rightwing spin for most people. An overbalance to the left may be the only way to get back to center.
The rightwing got the jump and have the most powerful radio stations. The only leftwing counters are AirAmerica and that little network in California that Rhandi Rhoades moved to.
On television, the only leftwing voices are Keith Olbermann and now, Rachel Maddow. In a way, it's a shame that Keith has reached the point of stretching everything the Right does into a major criminal act. I really think he could have been the next Edward R. Murrow in a different political climate. Still, he does give us news that doesn't get much play on the major networks - his 'Bushed' feature, for example. Rachel is a different kettle of fish. She researches the hell out of everything and while her outrage is evident, she doesn't drag a story to extremes to make her point.
Ah well, just my 2 cents, which nobody will pay attention to anyhow....

Yep, sadly it's come down in part to who shouts the loudest and the most. We need our fair share of liberal loudmouths, pushing things over the edge.
I do wish we had more 'reporting' going on... but most of the topics out there require two things... a long review of the background situation and a summation of what it most likely means. Both turn out to be very hard to do without falling into partisan patterns.

He was hysterical on ESPN.
Haven't seen him since.

Nah. You just have to put forth the effort to do your job, if you want to call yourself a journalist. The problem nowadays is that nobody even bothers to lie about their intentions to lie to you. Journalism has become non-existant on the box & nobody's trying to rectify that. Apparently integrity just isn't important anymore. It's all about drawing ratings through entertainment. But the ratings are down & dropping, & the amateurs in charge of programming can't seem to figure out why.

As far as the printed word goes, I would say that Matt Taibbi of RS is the heir apparent to the legendary HST's great political coverage in RS...but it's not as drug-addled of course...it would have to be written by Keith Richards if it were, now that Hunter is gone...

No one wants to listen to nut jobs like Stuart Smalley that's why Air America went bankrupt. Say what you want about the right getting a jump on the game but they still pull in huge audiences because most of America is right of center.

Ah well, just my 2 cents, which nobody will pay attention to anyhow....Obbermann has turned into a joke since he left espn. He tries so hard to beat bill but he can't get 1/3 of the ratings with his crazy rants to go no where.

Reasonable people don't want to hear rants and raves regardless of which side of center they lie. That's why Air America wasn't a success: democrats won't waste their time on that kind of shit.

AZ15, 'Stuart Smalley' is in a statistical deadheat in the race for Minnesota Senator with Bush bootlicker Norm Coleman. As for Reichwing radio audiences - 'bread and circuses'.
trish, give Thom Hartmann a listen on AirAmerica. Hell of a smart guy, no ranting and raving.
chefmike, thanks for the tip on Matt Taibbi. RIP HST. I miss him. "You fool! It was political allegory! The fox was Pat Buchanon!" hehe

I never listened to Air America, so I wouldn't know. But Cuchulain claims some of it pretty intelligent, and now you're telling me I post the same opinions, so okay, you forced my hand: according to Stoked, Air America IS indeed the voice of reason, in contrast to that SHIT that airs on fox news.

The hugs remind of me of the premier of Germany persevering an unwanted back-rub from our idiot in chief. Eeeuuuww!

Squishy! There you go with your semantic games. Exactly where did I say that? Please post from this thread exactly where I "confessed" this?
Thinking of you fondly my lovely Asian/Black friend. More hugs and kisses.

When did the difference between Fact and Opinion become a debate in semantics?
