I'm curious about the escorting world. I've been with um, a few, guys...but escorting just seems so different. Oh and it pays

Like, is it hard to avoid Johnny L? Are there any dangers that people don't talk about much? How do you handle setting appointments or avoiding crazies?

(Thats me in the avatar by the way.)

Dont do outcalls, Do incalls ..
ideally work with another girl so your not on your own ....
Dont answer witheld numbers, texts or voicemails
Take Cash up front
Have a stock of lube and condoms
ADvertise on some escort boards, plenty of free ones... over here in uk adultwork, eros, punterlink, birchplace, tvchix etc are good sources..

I found advertising in a paper was great for the phone but far to many pricks that were just wanking on phone....
Tip dont give out your adress until they are on their way, just give them the name of your road and tell them to call when at road, makesure tehy call you an hour before apointment to as well to confirm.

Hope that helps...

Take Cash up front.

A good way to get busted (it's not legal here like it is in the UK). Most "houses" will instruct their clients and girls never to discuss anything to do with money PERIOD after the initial phone call. Asking on site for the money up front is a direct solicitation, no way around it (not that they can't pull your ad and get you even if you don't, but depending on jurisdiction may shy away from full prosecution without the direct solicitation on site).

They take the beat of getting ripped off as a business expense over the danger of getting arrested. But that's a business decision everyone needs to make for themselves. Of course, some houses pay the girl even if this happens to make sure the girls comply with the house policy and that's something you can't do as an independent. Which brings up a second subject: you might want to consider working for someone at least for a little bit just to a)learn how things work, and b) you won't have to jump in the deep end (i.e. be doing every aspect: advertising, booking, the session) right off the bat.

Jeez are they harsh in the USA....

I mean in the UK its not ideal but the rozzers generally leave escorts alone and focus more on the street hookers.....

Of course the advice about not talking about sex acts over the phone is correct, if you need to talk about $$, only say it's a donation for your time.

One clever girl I saw, had me drop my pants once I got through the door. She slapped a condom on me and went to town for a couple of minutes, then we proceeded with the financial matters. Most cops are serious homophobes, they wouldn't go that far with a transexual. If you were busted under this scenario, I would think a lawyer could get you out of trouble, judges and the public don't take kindly to cops getting their jollies while on the public's dime. Any of you guys out there have opinions on this?

So you're saying modeling for Shemale Yum is a gateway to escorting?

It's actually not illegal in most jurisdictions for an undercover cop to engage in some preliminary acts. But as you correctly pointed out, prosecutors, Judges and juries don't like the concept, so it usually doesn't happen. One enterprising Sheriff's Dept (I forget where exactly, but North Carolina rings a bell) got around this by hiring CI's to have the sex and wear wires, and then busted (i think is was massage parlors).

did anyone think of maybe indicating that becoming an escort is not the wisest career idea? hey, do what you want to do. but maybe think real hard before you cross that line. i know tg,s that have and the regrets are endless.just something to consider. ok? whatever your choice always be safe and dont do drugs of any kind.

I'm saying if you are an escort - or are planning to be, it's a good way to get a lot of exposure which equals a lot more interested guys. There is also a validation to it, instead of a couple of photos on a CL or Eros ad ... plus the model can add our affiliate links to her adverts and direct clients to the site if they want to see more of her. It's a win-win-win : model-client-website.

In addition to the excellent tips supplied previously

Do incalls only.
Try not to work on your own
Dont answer witheld numbers, texts or voicemails
Take Cash up front
Have a stock of lube and condoms
Advertise on some escort boards, plenty of free ones.

I would add a few things based on my own experience with good escorts.

Keep a clean and tidy environment for you and the john.
To ensure the john is clean, offer a shower before you get down to business.
When you have a customer, don't answer the phone. He's paying for your time, after all.
If you include a photo on your adverts, don't use a fake photo or a photoshopped photo.

These are things which, for me, make repeat visitors, tips and gifts, much more prevalent.

I do outcall only, actually, except for rare occasions when I'm touring.

I would say that many of the things mentioned are helpful tips, but keep in mind they are just tips and they won't make you money and they won't keep you safe. More than anything you need to be a good judge of character and you need to learn how to apply that to screening clients. If you are continually finding yourself feeling taken advantage of by friends and lovers, I would seriously think twice before escorting. That said, its not nearly as scary as people make it out to sound, and as far as jobs go it is usually enjoyable. The hours are good, the pay is good (when you have a good business) the benefits suck, the people are hit and miss.

Check out web-boards like TER, backspace, Redbook etc... to learn a little bit more about the game.

Seanchai is right, shoot some porn if you can, and use the free photos to start your business and build a name for yourself.

And if you are at all concerned with what normal type people think of you, then you may seriously want to consider setting aside a portion of your earnings for future psychiatrist visits. If you don't give a shit, then have fun and don't let anybody drag you down.

Oh, and Danny is right about the money thing, even as an independent it is a standard procedure to never discuss money (for me its over the phone, by email, or in person) that is what your website is for. If somebody is too stupid to follow your rules, they are not going to be a good client.

And lastly, get to know the other providers and hobbyists in your local area, they are the best source of information on how to stay safe and out of jail.

xoxo
