View Full Version : My Stay in Chicago

Well last night we decided to go out at like 1:30 and instead of driving we decided to take the train. (I'll post pics from it soon) So we are staying by the O'hare Airport, and we were trying to get to Hydrate and Berlin. My Friend Cristo is like look if we take the train we can get to Belmont, lol however we didn't realize we were on the total oppisite side of Belmont.
The train experience itself was scary. The attendant kept yelling at us ove and over again "you have to have exact change, you have to have exact change to get the ticket" I notice that a lot of people in Chicago so far repeat what they say over and over again lol I told the guy thank you five times and he just kept repeating. It took a half an hour just to get from O'hare to Belmont. Then after finding out that we were on the wrong side of Belmont, the guy was like you can go to UIC Halsted then transfer on Jackson to the redline then take that north to the Belmont. Then the attendant is like, but Halsted is the ghetto just to let you know. I was like umm no Cristo we are not going to the ghetto, so we decided to go back to the hotel. So basically our night consisted of an hour on the train and Ihop across from our hotel.
We are gonna try to go out tonight AGAIN, we are going to go shopping at Woodfield Mall, to the fair thats a block or so over, and then to Navy Pier!

Seriously...
If you needed a driver for the night should have asked... lots of Chicago folks one here. Chatting face to face would have been worth a couple hours riding you and your pals around.

I guess that now it's late for this, but if you had taken the O'Hare L down to Lake Transfer (if they still call it that, I havn't been on the CTA in 30 years) you could just walk down a tunnel to the red line and catch a train back north to Belmont, and that would have let you off almost at the doorstep of Berlin. Next time you come to Chicago, download a CTA map and save yourself a lot of bullshit.

That sucks you had to go to IHOP. Whenever i go to that one i get the same waitress every single time no matter what time of the day it is, I don't think that she sleeps. How long are you guys here for?

Okay.... having re-read my earlier post I realize my internet skills are rusty, I did not mean riding... I ment to say driving. Sigh...
Seriously, one of the regulars on he board and few friends need a ride to someplace you wouldn't mind going to anyway? Maybe a couple places, sure, just adds a few minutes or so to the ride home, and in exchange you get to meet the someone and a couple others. Not a bad deal...
Maybe I just have more time on my hands than most, or like helping folks out more...

I was actually supposed to go to Pride in Chicago this year, but had to cancel my trip last minute. I have a good butch queen friend who lives off of Halstead. It would of been fun to see some of the other girls. I go out there a few times a year and might go sometime in August, its a great city.

If you were by O'Hare.... probably not far from where my family lives and I am now... why would they give you the directions they did. UIC-Halstead is way the heck away from there? :-/ OTOH. CTA people can give some shitty advice sometimes. "Redlines over capacity...The number 77 bus to the blue line is your best bet..." B.S. I heard after the Parade.
Anyway.
How much longer are you going to be in town?

You could use someone like myself, who REALY knows this city. Although I have lived in many cities around the world, I was born and raised in Chicago - it is a great city and I call it home. So many better places to shop than Woodfield Mall - it is filled with vanilla suburbanites and the dull things they like. There are so many unique boutiques in the city to find "one of a kind" items of all sorts. Moreover, there are world class restaurants all over the city - why eat the fodder for the masses that you can get in DesMoines or Peoria for that matter. Also, one can enjoy discovering cutting edge, homegrown musical talents; numerous art galleries; the best ganga east of Cali; and neighborhoods that will make you feel as though you have left North America to visit some far off exotic land. Finally, there are clubs besides Berlin, where your company would be appreciated - places where you could meet interesting, unique, eccentric, cultural and artistic people. There is so much more to Chicago than pizza, Navy Pier and mall shopping. Next time you plan to visit this fair city, hit me up and I will show you a Chicago not many people have appreciated - you will leave feeling enriched and satisfied. Furthermore, if you know what you are doing, you can eat, shop and party like a queen at the price a pauper could afford.

I have to agree w/ Sean, I think it would have been worth driving you around town for a couple hours Kelly. And since I live out in the NW subs, I would have no problem getting you out to the Woodfield Mall.

Awe thank you all. I really did have a lovely time.
We partied in boyztown on Saturday at Hydrate and danced with some gay pornstars who were hilarious.
Went to Roscoes which was amusing.
We did go to Woodfield Mall, there was probably one store I really liked which was Charlotte Ruths I bought a few shirts from there. And we ate at the Cheesecake Factory there. It was good, but wow you guys made Chicago sound more interesting.
I had so many problems navigating around. Our hotel sucked at directions like Brenda said. I had my laptop on me but no printer so I really didn't feel like writing down the directions lol
But I will be back to explore the city some more. :P

I've missed out on a lot of chicago, even though I've lived in the area (within an hour drive) for eighteen years. Lots of cool stuff, but you have to hit the plays, shows, etc. to really get the good stuff.
Shopping wise we're not that different than everywhere else, especially in the malls, we do have a few hidden fun stops, but those change regularly... Belmont/Halstead area still has a few fun spots (within a few blocks give or take.
As a sheer party city we're probably only top ten for th US by a hair... place to live and explore... top five maybe.

Hey Kelly,
You should have let us know. I always drive the girls around and would have come got you and your friends.
And with the exception of driving the wrong way down an exit ramp with Vanessa and Mimi in the car I have a good driving record.
