Now, by this time, I'm sure most of us have heard this:
"If cats always land on their feet, and toast always lands butter side down, then taping a piece of toast butter side up on a cat's back will cause the pair to hover above the ground in a state of quantum indecision."
Now, as we all know, hovering is a slightly limited form of flight, but with a German/Japanese propulsion device of some sort (preferably made with cheap materials, much like rocket boots), you could easily strap toast to the engine hull of a car and have a cheap and effective hover car.
