The talking heads on tv have been going crazy over comments made by Obama's former minister, Jeremiah Wright. I haven't heard them all and I don't agree with the wilder ones. So what? The man grew up in the 50s and was on the frontlines in the civil rights struggles in the 60s. Who can blame him for being angry? Btw, I think Obama hit it out of the park with his speech yesterday. Anyone who can listen to the man speak and not get emotional...is a bigger cynic than me, and that's saying something.
What I'm curious about is why no outrage over the close ties between the REICHwing and one Rev. Sun Myung Moon, who owns the premier right wing newspaper in America? This goof claims to be the messiah. He says Jesus was a failure and his wing-nut followers hold 'funerals for the cross'.
President Dubya's brother travels with Moon and Bush Sr has as well. Dubya took campaign money from him, as do many Republicans. How does this fit in with their 'Christian values' line of bullshit?

The lack of public outrage over the moonie/right connection that has existed for years is certainly disappointing.
The Rev. Wright? Why don't we hear more about the extreme right's bible-banging nutjobs that McCain has aligned himself with?

Pat Robertson makes his living (as did Falwell) explaining how natural disasters are just God's vengeance on America for extending the liberties of citizenship to homosexuals and atheists. In other words, Falwell and Robertson were proclaiming "God Damn America".

I always liked Reverend Ike. At least he was straight up.

Pat and Jerry simply explained how a civilization rots from the inside out when it lies to its citizens that sodomites are normal and then teaches that lie in school so recruitment can take place. The Sodomites have had thousands of years to build a multicultural paradise and it hasn't happened anywhere on Earth yet. Every society that has um... "embraced" it has fallen. I wonder why? As for liberties, the gay mafia is working hard to give themselves special rights.
Wright was shell shocked by the 50's and some of his anger needs to get under control. He looks like a moonbat by publishing hamass propaganda in his church letter.

BULLSHIT...Pat and Jerry explicitly stated that god was punishing us directly with natural disasters for harboring gays. Not rotting or diseased from the inside, but suffering directly from the rage of an sexually insecure god. Face it: your god is a homophobic closet case who wants to stomp on anybody or anything that threatens his deteriorating self-image. In other words, he was created in your image, q1a2z3
The Sodomites have had thousands of years to build a multicultural paradise and it hasn't happened anywhere on Earth yet.
You call that reasoning? I didn’t know it was a goal of sodomites over the millennia to create a multicultural paradise. Straights have had nearly a million years to build a monocultural paradise. How ‘ya doin’ with that?
Every society that has um... "embraced" it has fallen. I wonder why?
There are many European societies that have embraced same sex marriage, civil unions or cohabitation rights and they do just fine thank you.
As for liberties, the gay mafia is working hard to give themselves special rights.
Wrong again. Gays already have the inalienable rights to which the Declaration referred. They’re just trying to get the children of the founders to apply them fairly to all.

Homosexuality was commonplace and accepted during the golden age of Ancient Greece - a civilisation that subsequently collapsed.
It was totally unacceptable and punishable by death during the golden age of Roman and later British Empires - both of which subsequently collapsed.
All society reach a zenith, and all societies collapse - to be replaced by others. It's called progress.
Like Trish, I really can't see any correlation between homosexuality and collapse of societies.

The irony of you citing this quote aside, I like it a lot, guyone. From my perspective, there are few litmus tests for stupidity that are more reliable than a strong party affiliation (on either end of the political spectrum). Frankly, the political left and the political right, the Democrats and the Republicans, are two sides of the same coin – both of which are firmly ensconced in a shroud of hypocrisy.

Fuck Reverend Wright. I have black friends who can't stand his racist ass either. The members of his church are lapping up his racial and divisive puke, while he laughs all the way to the bank; and having a one million dollar house built to boot. Sucker born every minute.

And to hell with the Obama's. His wife whined in her thesis on how she felt inferior as a black person while studying at Princeton in the 80's. Boo-fucking hoo. How the fuck are you inferior while attending Princeton? I'm white and I could only attended night school at a community college part time (while working full time) to study computer programming, and I was excited and grateful for the education I received there.
Yeah ... great pair they make for the country.
And as far as the media making a big deal out of his association with Wright, that's because it is a big deal. You are known by the company you keep. Deny it all you want on his behalf. Have some photos taken of you with the KKK or some other extremist group, and watch how your family and peers will view you with suspicion, regardless of how you dismiss it.
Walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it is a duck. Or as Burt Reynolds in Boogie Nights once eloquently said "If it looks like shit, smells like shit, then it is shit."

So once again it’s the conservatives who are whining about unequal opportunities and label with a perverse twist a logic the erudite observations of others as complaints. Poor poor InHouston was sooo deprived. Perhaps we should make him president.
Reverend Jeremiah Wright served his country for two years as a Marine, after which he joined the Navy and graduated from the Great Lakes Naval Training Center as valevictorian. He served as a cardiopulmonary technician at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda and was part of the team that oversaw President Lyndon Johnson’s recovery from pulmonary/heart related surgery. If Reverend Wright is angry with the persistent poverty of many loyal Americans; if he is frustrated with the conservative social economic policies that keep so many of the poor under the thumb the power wielding wealthy; if he is outraged, then it is a patriotic outrage. Why can’t anger be expressed in the phrase, “God damn America…”? I say God damn America for it’s policies on torture. God damn America for letting her soldiers rot in Walter Reed, ignoring the conditions of their care. These “God damns” are expressions of anger. They are not actual pleas for God to mercilessly strike down the sinners. They are pleas for change. These “God damns” are distinctly different from the plaintive whines of the right wing purveyors of hate like Pat Robertson and Rev. Hagee who call on God to literally damn America. Pat warned Dover, Pennsylvania that God was going to visit them with disaster for their belief in evolution, for Pete’s sake! Pat even prayed for hurricanes to demolish the Sodoms and Gomorahs along the coast of Florida. These men wring their hands with glee when natural disasters strike. Their pleas aren’t metaphorical. They are not born of anger, nor of love. They are born of cold calculation. These are the friends and associates of Sen. McCain.

1] I'm not a conservative. I'm an Independent, and an ardent Atheist. It doesn’t matter whether I lean right or left politically, they’re all religious and there’s no choice in that respect, so I go on character.
2] With all of Wright's distinguished accomplishments and accolades, he's still a whining, delirious, foul-mouthed racist buffoon foisting his racial rants under the auspices of his church and on behalf of the authority of a God, that ironically and ridiculously enough, never existed in the first place.
3] He doesn’t tell his followers the truth. He tells them what they want to hear to stir passion in them resulting in greater tithes to his church. Because you can't see this, that makes you a fool fool fool.
Now, I submit to you, your reasoning in defending this racist mystic, who even had the audacity to claim that the H.I.V. virus was engineered by white men to stamp out people of color, is merely for the sole reason because he’s black … and nothing more. AND YOU KNOW IT. YOU KNOW IT … YOU KNOW IT. I’ve encountered dozens of people just like you who make frivolous cases in support of someone simply because they’re black. And you’re no different. You … cannot see beyond someone’s color, and that in fact renders you shortsighted and prejudice.
You know the word prejudice means to prejudge, and that is exactly what you’re doing supporting Wright based on an inaccurate stereotype about educated black people; “Because they’re educated and intelligent, they’re always right.” Bullshit! Anyone can sit around for years and read and study. I rank people’s character according to their judgment, and not how many degrees they have or their command of a language. Same case with Obama. They're both full of shit.

There is a philosophy which says that you mostly see yourself in other people. If you judge people like Rev Wright and Barrack Obama to be full of shit, maybe it is you that is full of it. No two people see eye to eye on every subject, but everyone is capable of having a valid point at sometime. That is why it is important to respectfully listen to those you might happen to disagree with. And as you give so shall you receive.
But I will go no further. From the tone of your posts it is apparent that you are not ready to listen or respect others. So while it may not be ‘shit’ blocking you, there is something filling you up that is blocking the free exchange of information. Have a nice day.
And by the way, the belief in God is man's attemp to find meaning and connection with life and the universe outside of one's immediate existence. Religion has helped me find many principles of living, which have greatly helped the quality of my life, as it has for multitudes of others.

InHouston, you say you're judging on character, (
…so I go on character.) but I would submit you’re judging Obama by the character of those who endorse him,
You are known by the company you keep. And not on the character of all his endorsers, but just this one. This is precisely why the strategy of my response was to defend Rev. Wright’s invocation of the phrase, “God damn America” by comparison to the invocations and prayers of Robertson and Hagee. Not because he’s black, black black but because it was the response warranted by your derisively sidewise attack on Obama. You attack his wife and his pastor, but in the end you had nothing to say against the man himself.
So, have you read Mrs. Michelle Obama’s thesis? Or did you just prejudge it as the whinings of a black liberal woman?

I do not know what Michelle Obama wrote on her thesis, just your description. One thing I have learned is that every person has their own journey to self discovery. If she felt inferior, it was her opinion and her own experience. But you call it whining. Did she say that she did not appreciate her Princeton education? I doubt it? Did she say that she was not grateful for her current status? I doubt it. Through my own experience of attending a fairly expensive Liberal Arts college and that of others I know, I found that students who come from modest means often feel intimidated by other students who come from wealthy backgrounds. An example would be a class discussion on France, and some wealthier students have been there on vacation.
It sounds to me like you are looking for excuses not to like the Obama’s, just as I am looking for ways to identify with them. But your views are understandable as the media plays out of context loops for hours on end and politicians reduce Rev Wrights 37 year ministry to those out of context statements. Common sense tells me that his church would not have been successful if his ministry was just as you described it, unless you view his followers as ignorant.
Your post referred to Rev Wright’s nice home. One thing I have observed over the years that when a White person is successful it is used as example that America is the land of opportunity, but when a Black person is successful there is more often a suspicion that he is taking advantage of other people. This is not only in the media, it is institutional. Successful Black people are often the targets of investigations. But we have a Vice President, whose former company has fat war contracts. I still believe that he must be getting some residual profits from it, since he was the head of the company.
I for one will listen to what Rev Wright has to say about his life, not an out of context media loop. But that is because I want to understand the context of his statements, not pre judge him. I suspect that I may not agree with everything he says, but I also suspect that he must have done some good things to have had a successful ministry.
