The court didn't award any punitive damages, because they had agreed to publish their own pictures in another magazine. If they hadn't done that, and had tried to have a private ceremony and someone had crashed it or otherwise breached their privacy to take pictures, the court would have given them way more in damages.

I feel sure if Elton had in fact been a tranny lover instead of gay , and he had been similarly honest open and respectful with his fans , the outcome could have been much the same . Accurate examples but irrelavant. Both parties court publicity - not every public figure courts publicity. How much do you read about Redknapp and his quite famous wife? If an actor is sucessful in his field then why does his personal life become an issue if he wishes to keep it private? If a sportsperson is the top of his game and advertises Nike - why does his sexuality need to be an issue? It's irrelevant - the parties you cited were out there looking for publicity, just not happy when someone else sold the story first.

Tut tut - bad example. Elton got married in the 80's to try and divert the fact he was gay, despite being a popular perfomer for two decades. George Michael as far as I can remember was always ambiguous about his sexuality and only forced to admit it when caught publically. As far as I'm concerned, their music is all that should speak for them. Some of the most popular love songs between a man and a woman were written by gays. Now if a performer like Eminem who openly loathes gays was discovered to be gay or having sex with a TS then to "out" him would be more approprite as he is being hypocritical.
