President Reagan floated the idea of a VAT (Value Added Tax) in the '80s. It got shot down real fast & the rate was only half of what's being proposed today. The difference is that a VAT hits every transaction at every level so by the time it gets to retail, it's already been jacked up by about 50% through taxes.
This is such a bad idea. A lot is said about income tax stifling investment & savings, but sales taxes stifle spending. Don't kid yourself, consumer spending is what drives the economy. Not just here, but around the world. The reason we have such a huge portion of the world's economy is because we consume more stuff than anybody else.
Maybe Huckleberry is one of those apocalyptic end timers who won't be happy until there's a total meltdown. Damnit! If we can't get a nuclear (that's nuculur to all you bushites) conflagration going, we'll just have to starve everyone to death in order to save their souls.
Oh well. I don't think Huckabee has a chance anyway. (praise the lord) Pat Robertson endorsed Rudy Juliani. Huckabee has the flat taxers, or the flat earthers, or whoever. I'm a Christian! Vote for meeee! I'll tax anyone without disposable income into oblivion.
It's really gettin' harder & harder to take any of this shit seriously.
